The fact is it's the owner's decision. That's a part of what makes this country great. He enacts his freedom and If it's "disparaging" to you then you can enact your freedom by ignoring and not supporting the team. There is no other correct answer. We live in a constitutional republic. We sometimes use democratic elements to reach consensus but we are NOT purely a democracy and thank God for that.
The owner change the name because all the merchandise people that were selling the Washington Redskins merchandise were pulling the stuff off the website and the stores which would’ve hurt his sales. Plus FedEx the company that sponsors the stadium for the Washington Redskins was going to pull out as well to. There’s no way he would’ve been able to keep the name under those conditions. Had he to keep the name Roger Goodell would’ve forced him to sell the team. If Dan Snyder had his way they would still be the Washington Redskins. But in A football league like the NFL there was no way he was going to be able to maintain it with everyone pulling out their merchandise and putting extraordinary pressure on him to change the name more than he’s ever had before in the past.

It’s true that amongst themselves Natives have reclaimed it in a way similar to African Americans with the “n” word. Used among themselves but never by another race directed at them.
