I know what he means. Poor can be used to describe different components in life. Poor is usually understood to describe ones ability to provide for ones family and having purchasing power. But you could also say someone is culturally poor, mentally poor, or when somebody has a negative attitude or behaves in a negative manner you can describe them as poor. While this community may be poor in some terms they are rich in that they are fighting to keep their culture alive and know exactly who they are and don't let anybody outside of their community dictate what they should be.

Hi Birat Singh, no it doesn't. Illegal immigration can only happen in the context of a nation state. Since Indians / Native Americans didn't have a concept of "nation" (which actually only exists since the French revolution), you couldn't possibly illegally migrate into the Americas, as nobody had ownership over these lands. A country is a country if there's a defined territory, a stable force governing that territory and the group of people liviing within that territory.

It's good that you have been connecting with other indigenous peoples around the world, but other people of other races are still unaware. I have ancestry from two countries that experienced colonisation - I'm half Aussie and half Mexican (I'm a quarter Native from my grandpa) so I have done more research into these kind of tragic things, but many other people don't care. I really hope that life gets better for Natives in both America and Australia.

Amen I love this video as I decent from a great grandmother that was full Lakotah Sioux she’d tell me stories as a little boy. I’d absolutely love to know my Lakotah family. You people are pathetic. Before the White man, the Indian tribes that the White man would eventually meet was part of the migratory wave that led to genocides of earlier tribes. When the new 'natives' settled in they turned on each other. When the White man arrived he found a mottled bunch of tribes that often fought each other, had centuries-long conflicts and grudges with one another, entire tribes sacrificed to whatever god the conquering tribe believed in. Slavery existed too before the White man arrived.
What the White man did was to unintentionally exchange diseases with the natives; some diseases the Europeans brought back home, killing thousands as a result. Sadly for the natives, having a weaker immune system for lack of living close to animals and lacking the evolutionary pressure that diseases and war imposed on the Europeans, they died by the hundreds of thousands before the Europeans ever encountered them. Entire tribes lost before the White man ever saw them.
Yet you people act as if the White man intentionally tried to genocide the natives when in fact there is no such proof, the Europeans was too few for centuries to have killed hundreds of thousands, and the Europeans were appalled by the misery they witnessed amongst the natives. Not only this, but the Europeans tried to help the sick natives. Further, Europeans did also defect in great numbers against their own when there was an unjust attempt for their lands.

I live in New York City and I am starting to learn about the Lenape nation, the Native Americans that lived in New York City and supposedly sold Manhattan to the Dutch for 24 dollars worth of trinkets back in the 1600s. When I was a kid, I had a hard time finding the name of the Native Americans that once lived here! I am learning that the Lenape nation still survives and now live in Oklahoma. I've never been to South Dakota nor Oklahoma so I don't know how long the flight is from New York City but I would like to visit. And as a daughter of Caribbean immigrants, as someone who was born and raised in New York, I would like to know more about the Lenape nation. I do agree that this place is a stolen country but at this point, all any of us can do is give respect to Native Americans.
Look them up on the net and contact them and tell them of your interest. They will have celebrations and events you will love so find out when they are. Two Delaware tribal nations in Oklahoma, Anadarko and Bartlesville, Okahoma. Stockbridge Munsee are in Wisconsin. They all have tribal websites and newsletters. Sure they're on social media.

But all Indians and I would say, Holistic/Synthetic Nations (basically all the archaic cultures were spiritually way beyond the whites. The whites are able to create very good machines because the Whites, the Gagan, are logical/rational. That's what distinguishes them from, for example, Indians who were considered as primitives but had a very strong spirituality and powers that we don't know. Or at least, we don't know them well. Indigenous in general were living in a simple way with simple needs but, with an enourmous spiritual potential, at times quite disturbing (I read some books about them), especially for what concerns their relationship with alien forces. I understand why my great-grandfather would lie and say that he was Italian in order to get a job when he was a young man in the 1930s. My great-grandpa was Ojibwa (Chippewa) and he was born on one of the Michigan reservations in 1917. I heard stories about him going to the "Indian" reform schools and he had twisted fingers from them being broke by his teacher(s) in his boyhood.
He worked odd jobs and even bootlegged booze for Al Capone for a short time when he was in his late teens. All worked out for him in the end, he met and married my great-grandma, who was the daughter of two Danish immigrants, and had 7 children with her. I guess that over the years he put on weight from my great-grandma's cooking and baking because it was so good. I was told that he really liked my great-great grandmother's breads, cakes, and pastries and when he told my great-grandma that, she got angry and went on a baking spree to prove that her baking was better than her mother's.
After his marriage to my great-grandma, he was able to take a job as a tool and die maker in a factory and he worked there until he became ill with heart and lung issues. He had a bad smoking habit and I was told that he would binge drink occasionally.
Now, I do not know if anyone outside the family knew that he was Native American or cared that he was Native because he made quite a few friends around the neighborhood. One neighbor even gave him a car when his old one broke down.
He had a very no-nonsence attitude and he was very down to earth. My dad loved him and would sit out on the porch with him and listen to his advice and stories.
My great-grandpa died in 1981 from complications of the heart. I never got to meet him since I was born 7 years after his death, but I have seen the pictures and enjoy hearing about him.
Grandpa was 1st nation Ojibway from the Swan Creek & Black River tribe (Swan Creek is the tribe that he actually came from, Julia Fisher was his grandma (she had several alias such as Julia Jane David Moses), and her parents were Mishwawgaw (Abraham David) and Wawgewaw (Mary David))
Great story. Great Grandpa knew how to adapt to survive.

Dad always told me that if a Native tells you something than you best believe it because they are not wrong. You should chat with a Native in your area sometime...they are nice to talk to...at least the ones that I encountered were. I used to live near a reservation when I still lived in Michigan and occasionally the Natives would come to the store that I worked at and I would chat with them on my break. I never went to the reservation because I did not believe that the tribal police would allow me on it. Despite have a great-grandfather who was Native, I am not registered with a tribe and I believe that they changed the laws years ago where you had to be registered with the tribe in order to go on the reservation. My great-Uncle lived with the Patowatami on their reservation, by Gun Lake, back in the mid or late 1970s but I guess that was alright then. My great-Uncle has the facial features of his father but blue eyes and blonde hair like his mother. Even my dad, as a teen, stayed on the Patowatami reservation for awhile. I was told that most of the Native girls had a crush on my dad because he was really tall, muscular, had striking big blue eyes and light brown hair. My dad really took after the Danish side, plus my dad's father was of British decent. Yes, I'll admit that there is some racism within the Native community but most are alright; however, I guess that can be seen in all racial groups and cultures around the world...you have your good and your bad. Personally, I just see people and I love my European side and my Native side equally. Both sides did great things and both sides did bad things in the past. However, the past is the past and we must all work toward a better future.
