Great video!! Best review I have ever seen. Ordered a Factor Ostro Vam which is coming soon and think I got the sizing right. Im shorter than you (5’77 / 176 cm) and ordered a 52 as well, but with a 130mm stem.

Hi there. I'm 5'10" but I buy bikes as if I'm 5'8" a size down. If you are an inch shorter, you probably will still be ok. But I recommend you to compare your stack and reach numbers against another bike/size you are familiar with.
Thank you Chris!!! I hope the video gave you everything you may be looking for. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any additional questions.
In this Factor review, I had mentioned how the bike rides like a BMW M Motorsport. Drawing a similar analogy, BMC Roadmachine I had rode like a Cadillac Escalade. It's very comfortable with that stretched out wheelbase with a slack fork angle, but still a very capable bike under a good pair of legs.
Roadmachine rides differently from a Teammachine as well so that'd be a tough call. I can't necessarily say the Ostro VAM would be a drastic upgrade from your Teammachine if the drivetrain and wheels are on par each other.
I am 5'9 (175mm) and also ride a Pinarello (Gan) which is sized 51.5. Rode a Cervelo S2 size 54 which I sold coz its too big for me. I'm same with you, longer torso but short limbs. Nice bumping into your channel. I'm also looking at Factror bikes.
Very nice video, I came across this bike and it's growing on me, I'm just waiting for the new Look bike Cofidis got to see what Look comes up with to make a decision. Did you go with the 25mm setback seatpost? I would probably not get it but I'm thinking maybe it adds some compliance too and I might still get my saddle to the desired position. Also I'm a bit concerned about those integrated bar and stem when it comes to getting the fit right, can you easily swap them for a longer/shorter length with the customer service? I've done a bike fit and we're about the same size so I'm pretty sure a size 52 with a 110mm stem length would be bang on with my measurements but you never know from bike to bike. Also how is the toe overlap on this bike?
Just found your review as I have started looking for a new bike after an accident with my Cervelo... Thanks for a great review! I wondered if you may comment on how it feels compared to the Cervelo S3 you mention, what are the top 3 differences perhaps? (was your Cervelo the S3D?) thanks
Great review! I love your guitar collection! I personally have a PRS and a Les Paul SG! Thinking of going to Ostro VAM from a 2016 BMC Roadmachine. Looking for something more stable on the decents and loose the speed wobbles! Do you think it would be an upgrade?
Gotta love a fellow PRS and Gibby lover who rides bikes! So that's hella coincidence of you thinking going to Ostro from a Roadmachine, which is essentially what I did. If you watch my 2021 Roadmachine review, my sentiment was that the front end was too twitchy in high speed. While BMC RM is an excellent bike, the 2 you mentioned are pretty different in characteristics. Is Ostro an upgrade? That is a debatable since we are somewhat comparing apple to orange. Ostro a bit more racey, a bit more aggressive in handling and its geometry, a different ride than the RM. If that's what you are seeking and also an all-rounder one bike for all, would be a good fit.
Mate, love the independent reviews and content, and this bike looks like an absolute beauty. Congrats!!!! But a serious suggestion, get your chain waxed instead of using oil! That black gunk visible on your cassette and chain at the beginning of the intro is not just costing you watts, but also costing you money as it abrades away your expensive cassette and Red chainrings. I've been using wax-based lubricants (Squirt on the gravel bike, UFO Drip v2 on the road) for a few months now and I am absolutely sold. My drivetrain looks sparkling clean, doesn't give me black marks on my hands when working on it, and I rest more comfortably knowing my expensive cassettes and chains will have longer life. Check out Zero Friction Cycling if you want to learn more, or how to get into using wax products.

Great honest and detailed review. Cool guitar collection by the way. Can I as you a question please. How comfortable is it? I’m currently riding the Look huez rs, it’s extremely light and I really like it but I’m thinking of upgrading. I need something comfortable as i have back issues. Any feedback would be appreciated. Many thanks, Alan.
Hi Alan! Thank you for your time watching. So "how comfortable" isn't something quantifiable as my "comfortable" may not equal to someone else's "comfortable". Therefore this one is tough to answer. That said, me personally, I take this bike out on epic days riding 100 or more miles in a single ride as I don't find it beating me up. However, it is also an out-and-out race bike designed for the pro tour riders, Israel Premier Tech, where the design ethos assume the rider being flexible, world class athlete, and free of pain I guess. Geometry isn't necessarily friendly or laid back for one with a back issue I suppose. But you could keep the cockpit high by not cutting off the steer tube, get yourself a quality saddle, run wide tires with tubeless allowing you to run lower pressure to get some comfort as well.

Hi Robert, thank you so much! I make a point to do unlike others in terms of weighing. Numbers I recite include bottle cages, computer mount, and pedals which would all be necessary to "ride".
Whilst I can reassure you that Ostro is plenty stiff, I can confidently tell you that there is NO BIKE that is as stiff or stiffer than the San Remo 76.
What an amazing review for ostro vam man! Glad youade the video cause theres not much out there you can see. Anyway, im super inlove with my ostro that I just got from my local bike shop here in Vegas. I opted the carbon gloss one. I used to have the BMC teammachine slr and this definitely rides fast… One thing I want to add about the Ostro seatpost is behind the post, i just noticed it last night when i cleaned my bike that theres some numbers amd factor name. Which with the gloss or exposed carbon frame, you cannot really see the numbers. It is a really nice touch from factor and the absolute quality made frame. By the way, I put the new Ultegra 8150 groupset and this thing is crisp as popeyes chicken.. hahaha. Anyway, see around and make more quality videos likes this. Cheers!
Was talking to Rommel about your BMC whether you had success selling it after seeing it listed for a bunch of weeks. Thanks for your time watching and the comment. See you around.
@@DiabeticCycling I still have the have the BMC. The bike rins a little big for me since im only 5’6”, im kinda stretch out. Was hoping to right with ypu with our Ostros last weekend. That would be some nice pictures together.. 👍🏻
@@christan3278 it feels better, im waiting for a 0 offset seapost that the shop will give me. They are just letting me use the 25 degree offset for now. At the time when i got the frame, it came with the 25 offset and that was the only one left.
Did you know that the rim depth for the SIXTY Black Inc wheels are 56mm not 60? Found this info from the Black Inc website. With that being said, would you do 45mm front and 56mm rear?
Do you still love your OSTOR VAM? I have been in the market over the last year and its between the Ostro, a tarmac or the Aethos. I know the Aethos is an entirely different bike. I am an ex athlete 240lb clyde that likes to try and hang with the B+ riders as long as I can. I live In TN where it is Hilly and can have some good climbs two fake hips and lower back pain sometimes. I don't have a way to try and ride the factor as there are no dealers. Always concerned when i cant try something. i can only have one bike.
Love the Ostro VAM. As for being "one bike", you would be hard pressed to find one that performs better. Also with your terrain where you got hills and flats mixed, Ostro would be an ideal one bike setup. I do feel that it is overpriced much as many other things. You are paying Bianchi/Colnago/Pinarello money for a brand that doesn't invoke emotional response some would say. Some don't care so long as it rides well.
Great review. I'm considering order a Ostro. At 170cm would you recommend a 52 or 49? The 49 seems extremely small. 52 in factor is very close to a 50 in a trek Madone.
Hi Andrew. This is a bit tough to answer as everyone's build and proportions are vastly different. Your 170cm height may have different stack/reach than another guy the same height. That said, I would advise you to compare stack/reach numbers against other bikes you are familiar with to land at a proper size decision. I think 52 would be ok assuming a pretty standard body proportions. If stuck in between 2 sizes, I always recommend people to go with the smaller.
Thanks for the quick response. I have a slightly shorter torso with an inseam of 80cm. I've struggled with the fit on my Madone SLR, with excessive reach. Rookie mistake, and I got a frame size of 54 as per their recommendations, and it's at least two sizes too big. I'm leaning toward 52 in the ostro with a zero offset seat post.
I was having hard decisions between the canyon aeroad and this bike, and the reason that I choose it is because this bike is lighter, as they said on the website that you can easily build this bike under the uci limit. I am just a little curious about if I go red or and other ways could make it lighter like something around 7kg, that might no be possible, but I am just curious 🤨lol, also I think maybe for a size 54 and a flicker paint it should stay the same I guess
Hi DC - your review prompted me to find a shop and take a test ride. Unfortunately, there's only one shop within 100 miles that has Factor and they don't offer test rides. The stated reason is that each bike is custom fit to the rider which they apparently only do if you buy the bike. So, one must buy the bike before ever taking a ride. Is this a common practice with high-end bikes? I would probably never buy a Factor since there are other great bikes at a fraction of the price (Soloist), but I'll never know for sure without taking a short test ride.
Hi Nathan! Thanks for your time watching. Even cleat position and shoe size would come into play for overlap so it would vary person to person I suppose to what degree. For me, I wear shoes size 43 and there is some overlap rub slightly. I think only bike I had with no overlap was my BMC which had a ridiculous wheelbase with a fork that was a mile out front LOL...

I too think this is very helpful in bike buying decision. I have a Pinarello F10 with Campy Super Record EPS4 and like it. Buy was considering upgrading next year but not sure changing my F10 for the Factor Ostro VAM would be worth it.
Hi Terry. Me personally, I don't know if the Ostro VAM would be an "upgrade", although that would depend on each's definition of what "upgrade" means. While the Factor Ostro VAM is a very well engineered and designed bike, and it would definitely ride differently than your F10, not sure if the word "upgrade" is the one I would describe this.
Thank you for excellent advice. Maybe I will upgrade my wheels from Mavic Kryserium aluminum wheels to Zipp NSW 454. That is a boat load in its self. Thanks and keep up the great videos.
About time this review came out, sadly I bought a Tarmac SL7 frame 5 days ago. Oh well. The only reason I didn't bite the bullet on the Factor was the paint options even though Factor offers custom paint.
@@AdamKietLy I know right, and the colours on the website don't appear to be what you see in real life so it makes it hard. But yes they need more colour options with realistic photos.
can you switch out the bar/stem combo to something other than the black inc set up? Not sure how the cabling works and would like to run a vision metron 5d I already have (not the acr version)
Hi Chris! I for sure know you can use a different cockpit as I've seen people using some high end aftermarket stem. I also have a Vision Metron 5D, so I am familiar with one but I am not so sure how that would work at the dust cap area. So long as the steer tube diameter is compatible with that of the Metron, common sense tells me that would work but without having to try myself, I hate to give you a suspicious answer.
A loaded question. Predominantly, this will depend on your body proportions, fit, and your personal preference in terms of where exactly you wish to be positioned on a bike. I have a longer torso than normal for my height, therefore I use a setback to compensate pushing me a bit further back so my torso and arms can "breathe" without collapsing towards the front bunched up.
Triathlon bikes want their saddle above the bottom bracket. It means that if you're going to spend a lot of time in aero tuck, you probably want a zero setback post. If you're going to sit upright all the time / climb, then offset will probably be more comfortable. That's before factoring in unusual body proportions.
Hard to answer. I enjoy the experience of riding more than a particular bike etc, and especially once you get up to certain range of bikes, the bikes matter less and less in my opinion. Thanks for your time watching Marcus! Super appreciated!
Hi Darren. I mention it in the video what I think of in terms of comfort. Coincidentally I took her out on a century ride last weekend, the bike isn't going to beat you up despite being semi aero and an out and out race machine. Equipped with a proper saddle you like along with a proper fit, no issues.
@@DiabeticCycling thanks. Yeah I heard you mention the comfort but I was wondering what other bikes you're comparing it to. I have a Factor 02 and I'm trying to figure out if the ostro is more comfortable. That's what Factor claims
@@darrenbarlow5759 Well it's tough to say since "comfort" really isn't quantifiable. What I consider comfy may not mean the same for others and vice versa. In the video, I list a few dozen of my past bikes to establish a baseline what my opinion is based on. I have not owned ridden an O2, so I don't know how it would measure up to it. Suppose I can go out on a limb and say comparing Ostro's comfort level to that of Canyon Ultimate which is a testament.
Nice review and video, it's good to hear honest opinion from a fellow 'ordinary' cyclist. I currently own a Scott Addict RC Pro, and considering to buy Ostro VAM. How do you rate your Ostro during climbing? I love to do a touring (long ride) and climbing (eg 1,000-2,000m), and looking for an upgrade for my current bike.
hi Denny! Well, depending on how your Addict is spec'd and its age, I am not sure if an Ostro would be an upgrade. As to mine, keep in mind I don't have fancy 3rd party components like Darimo or Schmolke to significantly lower the weight. I'm running an "ordinary man" setup as I don't need to deck out my bikes like pros or weenies. Now that we have that established, the Ostro has no issue on long rides although I haven't taken her out to a touring situation. 100 plus miles in one ride, no issue. Despite not spec'ing out with "lighter bits" where my build comes in under 8kg or hair over 17lbs, no issues on climbing. If you build it out to weigh under 15lbs, you will definitely notice difference in addition.
@@DiabeticCycling Mine is 2020 with Dura Ace 9100 and using ordinary saddle & seat post, wheelset using Beast 40. Total weight is 6,9kg. I'm not a weight weenie nor trying to set up my bike like pro. Since this is my first carbon RB, I guess I want to explore / try other brand and hopefully it's an improvement in terms of comfortable and responsiveness.
@@DennyRachmat that sounds like a good build! My time on an Addict was too short for me to have an educated opinion. (only about 30 miles or so) As to the Ostro, I would say the responsiveness may be about par with your Addict. I don't find it uncomfortable on long rides but I'd look elsewhere if I were to look for something even more comfortable. Take care Denny!
I was looking at buying factor but when I realised they only did one frame as a frame set and didn’t sell Campagnolo as a full build I decided it wasn’t for me especially when the guy at factor Australia said why would you want to buy Campagnolo which was like waving a red flag to a bull. I love my Campy.
Got my Factor Ostro Vam on the 16th June with Dura Ace 12 speed group set & Bontrager Aeolus RSL 51 wheelset weight 7.4kg. I use the bike only 5 time. Didn’t Realised that at the head tiub there is a paint defect … looks like bubble or bump …. I made a complain to the factor dealer & after 4 days the factor agent came & take a look & snap photo of the bike…. … they say that this is defect ….. my worry is structure defect …. they didn’t x-ray … only took photo… Hopefully they replace the frame …. under warranty …
Hi Mohammad. That sounds heartbreaking... What little interactions I had to do with people over at Factor, they were super responsive. Hopefully you get your bike taken care of.
Obviously you shouldn't close your eyes when riding but if you close your eyes while riding the 2 you mentioned, you couldn't be able to tell the difference. Ride quality very similar.
@@DiabeticCycling brilliant. I just picked up an Orbea Orca OMR M30 this week. Watched your video on every night as I fall asleep prior to picking it up from the store 😂
Hi Maku. I talk my size and how I landed on my frame size extensively in this video. I also discuss a bunch of other bikes I ride/rode comparing size & fit. Give it a watch when you can and will give you much better idea than height/inseam which should only be considered as 2ndary for proper fit.
They increased pricing even since I got mine. But to be fair, it ain't just Factor hiking up price. Everything by everyone seems out of control high currently with no end in sight if you ask me.
Great point. Judging by your UA-cam profile name, I reckon you know. When a ride is over 100 miles, I can only carry so much in my pockets, cameras, and a drone to boot. So a bag comes in handy. Not worried about being aero when I have cargo, ya know? :) Thanks for your time watching and leaving me a comment. SUPER appreciated!
@@DiabeticCycling I was the first to review the Ostro on UA-cam, see what you think! Yeah, I get it if you have a drone to carry, but it's amazing how much you can fit in 3 jersey pockets. I don't really get the trend of hanging a bag sideways across your handlebar though.....

What an amazing review for ostro vam man! Glad youade the video cause theres not much out there you can see. Anyway, im super inlove with my ostro that I just got from my local bike shop here in Vegas. I opted the carbon gloss one. I used to have the BMC teammachine slr and this definitely rides fast…
One thing I want to add about the Ostro seatpost is behind the post, i just noticed it last night when i cleaned my bike that theres some numbers amd factor name.
Mike, I'm 5ft6 too and had a 2020 bmc slr01 size 51. What size did you go with the ostro and how did it compared with your teammachine
@@christan3278 it feels better, im waiting for a 0 offset seapost that the shop will give me. They are just letting me use the 25 degree offset for now. At the time when i got the frame, it came with the 25 offset and that was the only one left.
@@christan3278 and the size of my Ostro is 48cm
Did you know that the rim depth for the SIXTY Black Inc wheels are 56mm not 60? Found this info from the Black Inc website. With that being said, would you do 45mm front and 56mm rear?
I run a set of Hunt on my Orbea Orca which is 44/54. So running 45/56 would be very close, and yes I'd rock that all day if I could.
@@DiabeticCycling Thank you love the videos. Now to pick the White or Dark green I guess?
Great review 👊 @diabetic cyclist, which brand hat is that?
@@Andrew_velo Sounds like you will be all right!
May I ask how much the bike weight? (I actually asked this question right before you said about it)
Lol I ask this question right before you say it.
Would love to know how much toe overlap u have on the bike !! Amazing review
Cool review mate, almost as cool as that bike !!
Thanks for your time watching, Rice!
Ok I'm about to order SL7. Is Factor better?

You would definitely have to go Red and then wheels would be where you can go lighter using shallower depth or something ridiculous like Milensteins.
How does the compliance compare to the Cervelo Soloist?
Congrats on the SL7!
I have to agreed with you on the FACTOR paint color option. Very boring. I went with the custom paint but the option was still limited.
Can you comment on why someone would choose between the zero setback and the 25 mm setback?
Hi which bike do u like the ride experience the best?
Hard to answer. I enjoy the experience of riding more than a particular bike etc, and especially once you get up to certain range of bikes, the bikes matter less and less in my opinion. Thanks for your time watching Marcus! Super appreciated!
How do you rate its comfort vs other bikes you have ridden?
@@DiabeticCycling thanks so much!
Appreciate the reply, take care.
Was the guy Marcel?
@@AdamKietLy sorry I don’t remember all I know is that he was pretty arrogant.
@@davidlenneberg4303 Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I worked Marcel and he was very helpful. Customer service is everything these.
Let's review your guitars :)
YYYEEESSS!!! Love me some axes for sure. You can find my alter ego where I talk about my guitars here on UA-cam. :)
they say that this is defect ….. my worry is structure defect …. they didn’t x-ray … only took photo…
Hopefully they replace the frame …. under warranty …
Hi Mohammad. That sounds heartbreaking... What little interactions I had to do with people over at Factor, they were super responsive. Hopefully you get your bike taken care of.
그리고 팩터 ost Vam이 처음 나왔을때 완차가 8,100 $이었나요!
How does it compare to the Orbea Orca OMR?
Obviously you shouldn't close your eyes when riding but if you close your eyes while riding the 2 you mentioned, you couldn't be able to tell the difference. Ride quality very similar.
@@DiabeticCycling brilliant. I just picked up an Orbea Orca OMR M30 this week.
Watched your video on every night as I fall asleep prior to picking it up from the store 😂
@@ariffau Same here! Watched the video more times. :) I will get my m30iteam next week with dura ace c50s. How do you like yours?
definitely agree.....
what is your height and inseam??
i am worried about the frame size
Hi Maku. I talk my size and how I landed on my frame size extensively in this video. I also discuss a bunch of other bikes I ride/rode comparing size & fit. Give it a watch when you can and will give you much better idea than height/inseam which should only be considered as 2ndary for proper fit.
Hello! What’s your seat height?
Just going to their site and building the bike comes to over 10 K ... wow crazy .. I guess you would call it an investment in your health lol .
They increased pricing even since I got mine. But to be fair, it ain't just Factor hiking up price. Everything by everyone seems out of control high currently with no end in sight if you ask me.
데칼 보고 잉 했네요 미친늑대ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
ㅋㅋ 소중한 시간내서 들려주셔서 감사할뿐입니다^^
Lots of talk about aero, and the Ostro is an aero bike, but you ride with a big bag across the front?!
Respect.. really well thought out video. Literally you were answering questions in my head as I kept watching.
Thanks 🙏🏾
