Dr. Morens...you crossed a GREAT BIG LINE in all this. I am an older RN who worked in nursing facilities throughout the pandemic...even though my son was distraught that I might not be safe. I could not sit on the sidelines during this and not help to mitigate the results of COVID-19. I lived in hotel rooms throughout this time..almost two years...watching every single news conference and hanging onto every word Fauci, Dr. Birx, CDC that everyone said so I could lead nursing staff in implementing the latest edicts from these people. I trusted you all. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am that at least you and Fauci lied throughout the pandemic about origins of the virus and about recommendations for mitigation for which you had NO scientific evidence that these were "best practice" standards. During this hearing, Congress men and women focused on how you tainted your fellow colleagues. In my opinion, you two had no conception of what we were doing in the field and how much we trusted you. I have friends who, in defending Dr. Fauci, said that President Trump would not let him do his job. I have been an elected official, and I will say that I couldn't believe sage and arrogant bureaucrats couldn't find a way to work around the chief executive of the United States. End runs are what bureaucrats are absolutely perfect at. All you two were interested in is covering your collective asses. In the meantime, Biden convinced the country that Trump was not handling the pandemic, so we needed to elect him. He was going to: "Shut down the virus...not shut down the economy." Anyone who has a lick of sense knows you cannot shut down a virus. We elected Biden and here we are today! Had someone fessed up about the origins of the Corona virus was in fact from the Wuhan Lab, maybe we would have handled things differently. You sat there SILENT as those of us in the field were taking care of patients and risking our own lives to do so. We witnessed not only deaths, but also the physical and mental declines in elders from sequestering in their rooms, not having human contact, except for nurses in masks...we do not know how many people died from social isolation caused by your recommendations to keep them safe. How do you two sleep at night?!!! Dr. Morens, I also believe your friendship with Daszek was out-of-line...you were too close to him, and you were party to assuring contracts were available for him, in spite of directions from the Obama and Trump administrations that "gain of function" research was unsafe. You just shepherded his actions along. I don't believe it was necessarily a conspiracy...I more believe you all just didn't give a damn. I hope you are at least censured and that you lose your job. The public cannot trust you. The public cannot trust Dr. Fauci. For me I can say I will never trust anyone in the government again, particularly the health-related fields...it will take a very long time for the public to ever trust you again! I would love to say this to your face and to the face of Dr. Fauci.
