Well, if he thought Walensky was substandard as a mind and a bad choice, I see no serious issue here. He said he tried to discourage the appointment, but not necessarily because she was female. Clearly he was referencing the unfortunate trend toward DEI and the nature of appointments, which are too often political and not based on merit. So I am sorry the Iowa rep got so upset, and it is sorta understandable given her background, but the high theatrics were not really necessary. Her anger at his sexist reference -- though I am not sure how offensive "skirt" is, since women, after all, often wear skirts -- has nothing to do with his own qualifications. Given the awfulness of Fauci and his activities through COVID, I hardly think this minor example of sexist language is very important.
