No Fins vs Fins Comparison - Terminate the Tumble w/ StratoFins

Durable plastic StratoFins® will easily double or triple your water rocket apogee when used with almost any launcher. StratoFins® will guide your water rocket to lofty heights (over 500 ft. depending on launcher and PSI) with straight flights instead of tumbling through the air without them. No tools or glue required for assembly, simply screw-on to a 2 liter soda bottle (PET) or smaller. Launches were restricted to 40 PSI for this video to show most of the ascent. Many launchers and bottles can withstand 3X that pressure for achieving higher altitudes. Although this test was not scientific, a reasonable attempt was made to control many of the variables; however, there was a margin of error due to conditions such as wind and slight variance of nose cone positioning. This water rocket can be launched with or without a parachute attached since this configuration does not nose dive, but instead tumbles gently to the ground provided the nose cone is not permanently attached. Great item for people of all ages for fun, science projects, school classes, parties, etc. Enjoy.

Does the strato system have a Maximum pressure after which the plastic connector breaks or lets loose, like 200 psi? I know they recommend less but again is there a point which the plastic breaks???

We no longer make or sell the PVC pipe launcher, but instead offer the mostly metal StratoLauncher IV, which has a 125 PSI safety relief valve. Typically a 2L soda bottle will burst above 140 PSI (lower if it has been previously stressed). 1/2 inch PVC pipe is rated at 600 PSI, but the glue joints will probably give at 200 PSI. As you can see the soda bottle if not reinforced is always the weakest point in the system. I hope that helps.

Can you try this with two three and four fins

Two fins would not be sufficient. In archery the arrows have 3 feathers (fletching) for it to work properly and that is true for rockets as well. Four fins would work, but in water rocketry it is best to keep the weight at a minimum to achieve the highest altitude. Therefore, four fins would just be adding unnecessary weight without contributing any improvement in performance.
