On the 2023 spec US model of the Monkey has a flat brake light assembly and on mine it fits with the lock box installed. It is higher than others by the height of the lock box and am ridding to get used to the weight of a top box.

I zip tied SAE cable at the back where you think it is ugly, but such a way that it is nearly unvisible. Behind the side cover is good place, but you have to open it before charging.

Thanks for a great vid Scomak! Top video resolution quality, I always appreciate that - well done. I was mostly interested in the battery charger wire so I learned a lot about that, many thanks. No point in reinventing the wheel so I'll follow your method exactly there and save some real time! Nice rack too . . . seems to be built like a Sherman Tank so I'm very surprised they say a limit of only 4.5kgs. I've seen some other spindly looking ones on the web and YT and their limits are only 1 kg or 1.5 kgs less. Bizarre, as that T-Rex rack of yours looks like it can easily do 5 - 10 kgs at least. I wonder where the T-Rex makers think the weak spot is? Can't be their rack as it is all made of heavy guage steel by the look of it. Maybe the Monkey install points - maybe those are perhaps suspect. OR maybe they're just being over-conservative to protect themselves? Who know, good rack choice nonetheless. Love the Yoshi RS-3. I'm just beginning to outfit my new '22 banana chimp and Yoshi will be first addition :-) Thanks heaps for the vid! (I'm in Sydney and spotted your NSW plate - not bad for a Canberrian - nice banana colour) :-)

Wow! I just stumbled across your video and it feels (almost) like I’ve come across an alternate-universe version of what I did a few months ago with my Monkey bike.
For starters, I did the same thing along the same route with adding another (yes, a second) SAE connector. I ran it down behind that side-cover for access whenever I needed it. I did so mainly to be able to use that exact same Dynaplug compressor model you have. The only differences are that I used the stock bolts on the battery, I wrapped the wires going under that metal bracket by the battery (for protection against abrasion), and I tucked the SAE end into that clear rubber sock that wire bundle is in to help protect it from the elements.
I also picked up the same T-Rex rack kit last August and installed it on my Monkey. I also picked up the 26-liter Givi top case they sell as an option for it. I installed the heavy steel plate once when I first got it just for a test fit, but I immediately removed it in favor of installing the base plate for the top case. I’ve left it that way ever since, putting on the quick-attach top case as needed. I love it! Sometimes I’ll strap things to the rack, but if I’m carrying anything more substantial that can’t be easily strapped on (such as a take-out lunch order for me and my wife), I use the top case. The metal lockbox is great for carrying straps or other small miscellaneous items that I just want to keep with the bike. I’m in the US, so the light-cluster in the back is different and gives plenty of room for that lockbox.

When you mentioned it was weighty I made my decision to not get this. Weight is probably the biggest issue with these bikes. Does anyone know of aluminum racks for these?

Thank You for this Vid.....It's well done and I'm shopping for a luggage rack.....Really like this one and have looked at it before this, but I really wanted a Chrome one.

Maybe you could mount the lockbox between the handlebars? It doesn't look waterproof though.

what is the wire for that you hooked to the battery

It's an "SAE cable" - do a search for "motorbike sae cable" in google or duck duck go and you'll find them easy.

And incase I miss-understood your question - the cable is for charging my phone using an SAE USB adaptor but also for running my air pump for pumping up flat tyres.

this is the only rack to get for the monkey IMO, the rest seem to be cheaply made, break and overall very flimsy. shame you can't use the lock box with the nicer euro light. my 2022 will be here late sept and i wanted to upgrade to the euro style lights, guess I'll stick with the USA lights as that lock box is important to me.

Did you order the closed case also? Or did it come with the plate on top by itself?

It comes with it built in, if I could make it work I'd love to use it still.

Hi, will the t-Rex rack take a Givi top box monokey mounting bracket, thanks

not sure, the box will fit and you could make it work with drilling if required :)
