As a kid, I always marveled at Karpov. Then I realized that there was also a Kasparov! Then I saw a Karpov vs Kasparov! Mind blown!!!!
😁
I had the same confusion about their names! Until someone mentioned them both in the same sentence I thought I was just mishearing the names😅
And then you learned about Paul Morphy the legend himself and thought he makes Karpov look like a noob, not to disrespect Karpov but Paul Morphy is just a legend.
Karpov was a bit past his prime when he began playing Kasparov who is 12 years younger. It would have been nice to see them play each other at their peak.
@@leagueaddict8357 he's a bum that fought a bunch of 1800.
It amazing how many people don't know just how good Karpov was in his prime! I hope he recovers soon and fully! Thanks, great example of his strength!
Agreed, Magnus levels of domination
Who do you prefer?? Karpov or Kasparov
@@karinaa5558 Kasparov is definitely better overall lasted longer too, but Karpov was great tactically for a while. He definitely was in the great shadow of Kasparov! That also helps to explain why he was missed by many as far as Chess greatness goes. Thanks.
It's pretty well understood he was a world champ.
For me the second best player of all time after Kasparov. Made very few mistakes and the winner of over 160 chess tournaments
Wishing a quick recovery for Karpov ❤️
I am not a smart man as Forrest Gump said. No good at chess. For some strange reason I enjoy watching it.
Sorry, this is a bit long:
In the beginning of 1981 there were a total of twelve World Champions in history up to that time: Karpov, Fischer, Spassky, Petrosian, Botvinnik, Tal, Smyslov, Euwe, Alekhine, Capablanca, Lasker, and Steinitz. Eight were alive, but there were also three others living that would eventually win the title: Kasparov, Kramnik, and Anand, making the total number of living World Champions (past, present, and future) eleven. Euwe died in November of that year. The youngest of that group, Kramnik, was born in June 1975, so for those six-plus years, there were eleven World Champions alive at the same time. From what I can tell, that was the most living at one time. Before Alekhine died, he was one of eight past, present, or future champions living.
Steinitz, the first deceased World Champion, died in August 1900. When he died, Lasker reigned, Capablanca was 11, Alekhine was 7, and that was it. When Steinitz won the championship, he and Lasker were the only champions yet alive.
Currently, we've got Carlsen, Anand, Kramnik, Kasparov, Karpov, and Spassky still alive. And who knows how many future World Champions are with us right now.
Thanks for info 🙏🙏
Topalov as well 😌
Well, Ding/Nepo are pretty much alive if you ask me so you can count one up
If you include the FIDE world champions from the early 2000s, you will get additional WCs. Maybe 4 more. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Chess_Championship. With all the teen age GMs we have, we may have a few more in the new future. We would have had several more but for the dominance of Carlsen and Kasparov.
There is another world champion alive right now, though not a champion yet. With Magnus' decision to not defend his title, either Ding or Ian will become the next chess WC. We'll have to wait for 2023.
Love the quote this week. Tf was my first champ I ever played back in 2012
There are multiple conflicting reports regarding his coma. His daughter reports a fall in his home, some other report indicates Karpov fell down unconscious after being intoxicated as he had high blood alcohol level on medical examinations and again, another report said he was found unconscious near the Russian parliament resulting from assault
It was also after he calls an end for war in Ukraine so there will be a lot of conspiracy
he is basically drunk and fell off bad.
Nice example.
Nice morale.
Imagine a 71 years old ex world champ, deputy in Duma, being just an average alcolized russian loser.
Nice example! well done!
@@ED-yy4te yeah pure coincidence that russians who're famous in the west seem to die or become grievously ill just when it suites the west that russians and russia be not cast in a friendly relatable light. Chess is a peaceful friendly game among civilized people, and thats the exact opposite of how the western ptb want russians percieved by westerners, so Karpov had to be shutdown.
Bald and Bankrupt got character assassinated recently too. Any other celebs that cast russia in a good light been shot, debilitated or smeared?
Lots of falls going around these days...
@@ED-yy4te Of course he wants an end to this as everyone in Russia and Ukraine, but NATO has other plans...
I have never imagined that I would see a quote from Twisted Fate in Agadmator's channel 😂
Ikr
I met him in 2011 and then spoke to him a few years later on the phone when he was in Las Vegas as he agreed to be interviewed for a book I was planning to write about him. He is an absolute gentleman and one of the best positional players of all time. I hope he will be OK.
Beautiful analysis. Thank you. And for the news.
Karpov is my inspiration which got me into chess. Such a unique player.
Tal gives me inspiration
Ivanchuk gives me inspiration.
Giri gives me inspiration to quit chess
@@heroingiraffe lmao
True. Kasparov is more exciting and entertaining in his style. While Karpov, according to himself, had no style. Which is another aspect of his game that shows how great he was, an all around great champion.
I love this following quote for him, one day I'll have it framed and hanged in my man cave : )
"If the opponent offers keen play I don’t object; but in such cases I get less satisfaction, even if I win, than from a game conducted according to all the rules of strategy with its ruthless logic."
This quote is so like him as it's not the most famous even though it's more meaningful and profound than most.
Thanks for that beautiful game! I have long loved Karpov's beautiful positional masterpieces. And here we have a beautiful attacking masterpiece--but an attack growing out of sound positional ideas.
Spassky had ... such awesome hair!
AGAD you’re a legend!!!
One of my greatest regrets for the chess world is that we never got to see a match between Fischer and Karpov. I am convinced it would have been epic!
P.S. Please get well soon Anatoly!
Out of ten games Fischer wins 4, Karpov wins 3, and they draw 3. Fischer's attacking ability makes him better than Karpov. Maggie is proud of us all. Carlsen would not be where he is today without the rest of us.
Both llayers wanted it but USSR did not eant it, brcause it could be won automatically if they didnt accept the terms.
Also Fischer wanted to play 1974 olympiad but tournament did not allow him to compete.
Watching karpov's moves gives happiness to mind. He was one of greatest pillars of chess
Thank you for the information (regarding karpov). Let's hope he'll be alright very soon.
Anatoly Karpov beyond being a chess champion is also a current elected member of the Russian duma and said the Russian-Ukrainian war should end soon in April 2022. Please support his recovery.
April 2022?
i guess you meant april 2023
What's that to do with his accident? Or are you implying the Russians would attack one of their Idols? Karpov is a national treasure, adored by plenty of Russians.
Russians would never ever attack their chess players over politics 🙄 that's mental, unthinkable nonsense.
And as far as I know the Duma just voted unanimously over the ascension of the territories. The Duma is united there are no ploys and schemes at this moment. Once the Duma is united behind a cause No Russian engages in any Shenanigans any more till the cause is resolved. Them Rules are them Rules.
he wants the end for the good of russia as there is no point for russia to keep going except the hypocrisy of western countries part justification wise. He said we should fight ukraine before the war started if im not mistaken so don't talk politics just to talk politics.
@@osterlaich6395 idk if he implied that russians attacked him physically over politics, i think he just meant that karpov has a weight in this war and can make it end sooner (somehow? i guess it's how i understood his comment)
This two guys deserve more games covered in this channel
Karpov is a chess giant and one of the best people I've heard speak. Nothing but respect for the glorious man and I hope he ends up alright. The world cannot lose the great Karpov.
Yeah we can. He is partly to blame for what happened in Ukraine as he is a Duma member who voted in favor of invading
Memento Mori
I started playing chess watching the games of Misha, Ivanchuk! But I feel in love with the game by watching the games of Karpov, Anand, Carlsen, and Anish Giri!
I was able to see the winning pawn push near the end but as usual I could not find the continuation.
It is fun in any case to watch two genius level chess players weave a masterpiece.
I do hope Karpov will recover! Many forget Karpov as the greatest chess player of all time, but remember Karpov is 12 years older than Kasparov, and his record towards Kasparov is only -1 considering all the games they played against each other
He and Kasparov were certainly neck and neck.
I just noticed the quote is by TF from League, nice touch
2:02 ah yes, the classic flank-a-tank, love it.
I do like the time stamps, in the description. However, the notation is incorrect. Just a heads up :)
You should review more Spassky's games from his prime, he is so underrated. One of the most gifted players ever.
"One is permitted to lose to Karpov with the white pieces"
Best guy you quoted by far
FYI, the description has the Tal vs Wallis game.
Great game, thks
One of the best of all time, Karpov
I hope he's doin OK, Karpov is a legend.
I love Karpov. Best wishes getting well, sir.
Yes, so sad.
Could you do the game Kasparov vs the world from 1999? It's his most analyzed game and super fascinating!
Use # for suggestions
Beautiful
Really enjoyable game by two Chess greats, with non stop attacks and counterattacks,
Please consider flipping the board when the pause moment is for black to move. It’s hard to think as black when we see the board as white. Thanks
I was lucky to have a private conversation with Anatoly, he was a very nice polite and witty person, he certainly did not drink to excess, in fact at the end of a tournament he would drink 2 glasses of red wine, so the story of alcohol poisoning is surely false. I wish for him to make a quick and full recovery.
Yeah. Karpov was utterly dominant in this period. Sad to hear about his health problems.
Karpov was an artist on the chessboard..
Truly a game of the masters...!
Karpov remains my favourite chess player. His style of chess expression is the seed that gave us Magnus Carlsen. Capablanca to Karpov to Carlsen.... An awesome lineage and evolution of positional mastery in chess.
Wishing him a quick recovery.
Capablanca to Karpov? What about Vasily Smyslov?
Agad can we get a karpov vs kasporov saga, is the stuff of legends
It would be great to do a Karpov saga, i'd say!
At 4:14, what about R to H5? Is there something there?
Wow, I got both of the pause-the-video moves. But I don't think I could have played with enough precision to win take advantage of them.
I rarely share, much more than thanks. But I would have to concentrate on 1000 of these games to play again.
Anyone know what the #2992 in the title means? I've seen it in a few videos.
Can you please do the Karpov v. Kasparov World Chess Championship from the 90’s
As a kind I was on the side of Kasparov but the more I saw the game the more I liked Karpov. He is genuinely one of my favorites players ever
The chess world lost a possible greatest time with KARPOV V FISCHER
I can only imagine, God speed Karpov!
Also a potential Fischer vs Kasparov if Fischer retained his title(the more likely outcome) and also decided to play Kasparov…
Also Fischer also wanted to play 1974 Olympiad but tournament did not allow him to compete
Fischer wpuld logically continue improving and reach his peak in second half of 1970s
Wonderful game between two titans.
Agad the description of this video says this match is between tal and his opponent
Hello Mr Agadmator I love your videos especially the ones on Mikhail Tal can you please make a video on the game between Bobby Fischer and Florin Gherogiu were Gherogiu beats Fischer please and thank you very much. I also love all of your saga's keep up the good work.
agadmator, did you ever play a Polish opening (1.b4). It's really cool, I don't understand why players rarely choose it.
PLEASE show more Karpov games. Or Karpov saga #suggestion
You have mentioned Tal game 😂 in description
I never went to those great tournaments in Holland (I am Dutch). Such a missed opportunity. I wish Mr Karpov well, a giant in chess and a gentleman above all.
The description is from Tal's game
"Now look at this" Jersey coming soon
When asked who was going to be world champion in the Karpov-Kasparov match. Boris Spassky just said: the winner would be Ka-ov.
Haha !
I just commented somewhere that if Karpov were an opening he would be the Keres attack.
It's so anti-intuitive to not only have to decline taking the bishop, but also allow Qa1+.
Karpov is my favorite chess player of all time. I highly suggest watching the interview documentary in Russian. He discusses his journey learning chess in his youth and an intimate look into his personal life. It’s very interesting!
What the hell is that Twisted Fate reference in a chess game? Is it really a LoL reference? Agadmator do you play LoL aswell? :D
Shoutout for using a League of Legends quote :)
Tal inspires us all
Surely Tal is the best loved player in chess due to his slashing attacks ?!
@@johnballard6725 love a good sacrifice for tempo
I know you suggested other possible moves, but, instead of Karpov's pawn capture on d5, why not R-e5 blocking black's queen?
That was also my thought!
Tal was karpov second for the World championship 75 and 78 this why they learned from each other. Of course tal learned more from karpov which helped him to reach his peak rating although he was a little bit old.
The good stuff.
One great player...Karpov.
💪
Wishing Karpov a speedy and complete recovery. Hope Garry sent him a message.
i am sure he will ...
Two videos from Agadmator in one day! So let's dive straight to it.
Dear Antonio, do you know why Firouzja is not participating in important tournaments recently?
I always sleep on Spassky because the first of his games I ever watched were against Fischer which sort of blunts how good Spassky really is
Agreed! We forget how important the psychological element is in a high level series. You get a better sense of a player in regular competition games.
Most peopel sleep on Soassky because after 2974 he bame lazy and dropped his level and fitness and so he tarnished his name, but in 1960s and up to 1974 or a lottle later he was great.
Hope Doggie is OK too(no sign of movement) I love that Kritter
Karpov is a legend, get well soon Anatoly
greatest move in chess workes amazingly in this game #suggestion #suggestion
Viacheslav Ragozin vs Ilmari Solin
Helsinki (1946), Helsinki FIN, rd 9, Feb-??
King's Indian Defense: Normal Variation (E70) · 1-0
I wonder if Antonio has a bespoke database of games where the victor played b4.
why is twisted fate on the quote? :D
I found the move, the only other move I considered was queen takes pawn.
All the best for this great Champion, I wish he recover soon!
Took me a year to realize the Twisted Fate quote 😂😂
Mikhail Tal vs Philip Norman Wallis
Simul, 20b (1964) (exhibition), Birmingham ENG, Jan-11
French Defense: Advance Variation. Paulsen Attack (C02)??????
Mario, can you correct the game data in the video? Thanks
Regarding the solution for next Karpov move is: Re5
12:27: Why not Re5?
Appreciate your sensitive treatment of that. Good choice of game too. Thank you.
Description list wrong game.
At 8:28, the pause the video moment, can anyone tell me what's wrong with Re5?
Interesting question! Because if Re5, Spassky could use a pin situation by playing 24....QxRe5, and after 25. fxQe5 Bxd2+ 26.Kxd2 Re8, Black is better..
@@Oscar7468 Yes, thank you!
Instead cxd5 I thaught of Re5. It's blocking the queen, protecting f5 pawn and atacking d5 pawn... Maybe the next move for white would be Rd1e1 doubling up the rooks... What do you think of that???
Not sure, but probably black would just take the rook, getting back the exchange and going into a rook endgame up a pawn.
Re5 Qxe5
fxe5 Bxd2+
Rxd2
Never thought I'd see a LoL quote in an agadmator video
Get well Karpov!
Am I the only one who figured out Agad just posted a Twisted Fate voice line? xD
As far as I know, Agadmator makes sagas only on deceased champions, so the Karpov Saga may or may not be coming soon to a screen near you.
Naturally, like so many others, I hope NOT soon.
You got the wrong game in the description
Love Karpov
Karpov destroying 3 year old Misha is the best chess content on UA-cam I recommend looking it up
OMG!!! LOL
compared to yesterday Medo slightly changed his position. He's a positional dog.
Description is confusing Agad
