    I have a feeling this is not the last time we see Miaoyi Lu on this channel. She is currently ranked #5 in the world in U12 category. And no, not amongs the girls, top 5 in the world. It probably helped that she finished her last big tournament in Serbia with... 10.5/11 (open section)😮

    Actually, even if her mother says that Lu is much stronger than her, she not yet surpassed her. Her mother is WGM Xu Yuanyuan, World U14, U16 and U20 girls chess champion :) She is living in Belgrade 3 years because of Covid, playing 365 days chess, mostly IM and GM Berger round-robin . And when not, we played with her many blitz and rapid tournaments on the weekends.Everybody likes her here :)

      @@TrumanBurbonk She wanted to play in may Serbian U12 girls championship in Novi Sad but they did not let her because she is on China rating list.Not to mention,our top girls do not like that 😁

      I use to play a guy who did that often. Some of his attacks were brutal, but far more often than not, he lost. I loved defending against those attacks, it was great practice for me. Not so great for him, he rarely won with those attacks..

    Ruthless.
    Wouldn’t have thought losing a pawn on c2 would lead to such catastrophic results.
    You would expect the opposite result.

    I think it is so interesting that when talking of "opening theory" one can sometimes forget about the bolder player who blasts open the defence, and the surprise element can be worth a lot psychologically. Great game by that bold player of only 12 years of age.

    The reason that games in the 2300-2600 range seem Morphy-esque is because one of the players usually plays a move in the opening that is way down the list of recommendations from Stockfish. Top players stick to the top 2 or 3 moves generally.

    I never understand how do these young prodigies even exist. Like I know if you start in the age of 5 and have disciplined training it is possible to be reasonably skilled but straight up competing against top players?       lol it's just straight up reckless training popularised by the notion of early career success. Many of these prodigies end up in different fields, using their chess titles as leverage of some sort to get into universities.

      I'm a very average player & chess coach of kids 6-13. Each of my five classes has a kid or two that just excel with minimal instruction, and they pick up/memorize tactics at a glance. One who plays one day a week (kid is not allowed to play online, strict parents) smashes everyone who is regularly playing online and otb.
