OMGG you have no idea how much this video speaks to my constant inner monologue about “should I replace my MR palette from 2017?” So happy to see the quality stands up over time! I will use that palette until the day I finally get a reaction on my kids😂😂😂
I agree, I noticed a bit more depth with the new palette, almost like it had a bit more red to it. Once it was all done I didn’t notice unless I looked really hard. Gorgeous eye look as always! ❤️🔥
Very good topic!! I’ve always been feeling guilty applying eyeshadows older than the expiry date 1-2 years written on the back. Thank you very much for sharing this video👏🏻👏🏻
Despite how many years pass, I think ABH still has one of the best eyeshadow formulas that applies just as good as when I bought it. I still love and adore all my ABH palettes that’s been in my collection since 2018 with most of them now having multiple pans. This was a fun experiment to watch!
I'd like to see this experiment with other brands tbh. ABH is classic but what about flashier brands that go for more trendy stuff? I'd love to see if their formula stays the same.
@@torakfett3351 true! I’d actually be curious to see this done with more luxury brands too, like PMG or Viseart. So much money goes into buying those that I’d hope the quality doesn’t deteriorate badly over the years 😂😂
I guessed the new pallet was ur right eye at the beginning but to me really no difference at all. The shades wore well and pigmented they really suited ur blue eyes. Really enjoyed this video be interesting to see more with different brands aswell to see how they work. I wouldn't bother how long I've had any makeup it really doesn't bother my skin. ❤️
This video, which I love by the way, proves my theory to be at least someone accurate. I think the whole, getting rid of makeup because it "expired" or because they are old was an idea pushed by beauty gurus to justify their massive declutters (as if they need a justification) and to stop commenters from asking them to send declutters to them. I have a huge makeup collection and sensitive eyes and have no issue using very very old makeup. My loved ones, with normal sized makeup collections, use their older stuff just fine too. People can and should live their lives however they want, I just personally think the whole not using makeup because its expired thing is bogus🤷🏻♀️
But - there is a difference between cream/liquid and powder products! Liquids/creams do actually expire and go bad way before powders do. And they grow bacteria much faster! And I think legally these companies do need to put an expiration date/usage date on their products so no I don’t think that getting rid of expired makeup was pushed by beauty gurus
@@angelaabright I agree with them putting an expiration date on things for legal reasons, it's no different than food manufacturers putting expiration dates on our food and drinks. Just because milk is past the expiration date, it doesn't mean it's gone bad. I do however, still think beauty gurus have pushed the idea of expiration dates on makeup. It seems the same beauty gurus that were pushing codes and products constantly are now worried about expiration dates. I understand that part of the job is to buy and test products but if dates are so important, why would anyone own more than one eyeliner, foundation, or anything really? I use mascaras well past the 3 month time and have never had a problem. I use them 6 or 8 months, or more if it continues to perform correctly, and have never had a problem and this is the case with all the makeup wearing folks I know personally. It just seems that, if you're a follower of beauty content on UA-cam or other social media, you've seen the trend go from buy, buy, buy to oh no, expiration dates!
Probably my all time favorite palette. I have most of the Natasha Denonna, Charlotte Tillsbury, Huda and you can't beat ABH another great line Sigma...a real unsung hero
I definitely saw a difference. And I guessed correctly before knowing which eye had which palette on. The newer palette performed much better in my opinion. It was more pigmented and was more vibrant. I recently replaced my ND Glam palette because it was getting a bunch of kick up and her formula doesn’t do that normally. I bought my original Glam palette when it launched. The new one doesn’t have any kick up, it’s more vibrant, and it’s way easier to blend.
That’s actually such a good topic! I’ve always worried about my eyeshadows going bad, brands often label the shelf life to be only 1-2 years, which doesn’t make sense considering how long it takes to go through an eyeshadow
The expiration on makeup is primarily for liability purposes. Obviously, makeup builds up bacteria. This is why you shouldn't share it. You can also accumulate bacteria in your own makeup from outside forces and dead skin cells. Pigment also wears off after a while, so some brands can not guarantee that the makeup will function the same. (As we saw in the video) If you use an old lipstick, you'll likely be fine, but if you had an old cold sore (herpes breakout), then you'll get another cold sore. Rather than blame the company, it's all at the user's discretion. Now, many bacteria that come from the human body die after about 48hrs or so, so there's very little chance of that happening 🤷🏽♀️ but companies err on the side of caution.
Well did you know the expiration date is a "New" thing. Pallettes never had exp. Date. Before UA-cam influencers circa 2005-2009 You used a NATURAL MINERAL, Pigments, and sometimes talc until they were gone. That's how you have vintageKe up collectors. I played in my moms trains case my whole life. She had make up from the 60's- 90's in there! I only replace skin care & mascara, foundation.
I see a huge difference with Red Ochre its deeper. And the newer palette is more pigmented, but I still like my 2017 palette lol. I need to use that first before I even think about buying a new one.
I guessed right. The newer eye, my left looks more crisp. The eye you used the older palette on looks more... diffused? It does still look good though.
I loved this video and thought this was an awesome idea and so glad you shared it! I personally have a lot of my older pallets and they still perform beautifully I haven’t noticed any mold in them or any funky smell otherwise I would’ve tossed it when I’m concerned I spritz it with some alcohol and let it evaporate and dry thoroughly and I think it’s fine I’ve never had any issue. Thanks I enjoy this again
I guessed correctly! Your eye with the new palette has slightly more pigment to it. Great video! :) Now I want to buy modern ren and soft glam lol. I have Norvina and Nouveau. The formula is fantastic, probably my favourite. My Norvina is still performing just as good as new after 5 years.
I just threw out my old one from over 5 years ago, and I bought a new one. I was a bit sad because I felt like my new one wasn’t performing the way my old one did when I first bought it. I think it’s because now, eye shadow formulas have got a lot better through the years. Great video! Both your eyes look amazing!
OMG your puppy. I’ve had Newfie for over 20 years and I have decided to get a Bernie. But his coat is gorgeous! And like Newfies they are THE best breed. Gentle Giants. Of course I love the eyes. My favorite palette. I commented before but missed your fur baby.
Interesting, I got the palettes backwards! I thought your left (our right) was the new palette. Great to see it holding up so well especially since I just purchased it this past Christmas! 😀
I agree the new one looks more pigmented in the shades red ochre and antique bronze. But the old one still looks amazing. I forgot how much I liked this palette so thank you 🥰
I still have my original Modern Ren palette from 2017 too. I ended up buying singles of the matte shades I used the most to make a quad for fast n easy makeup days. I think the expiration date on that ABH palette is 12 months? Kinda funny, but all my favorite palettes were purchased in 2017 & I still have them & use them. I really liked Coloured Raine shadows too & had all their palettes. I depotted them & now use them as singles & curate my own custom palettes. I mix & match CR with Sydney Grace, Devinah & Terra Moons. ABH still has my fave matte formula but I prefer Indie Brands for my shimmers & duo/multichrome topper shades. If you like/wear neutrals often, Mod Ren,Soft Glam or the OG Norvina are great palettes that are totally worth the price tag.
Love this comparison video! I’m getting this palette in Ipsy’s Icon Box next month and wanted to see if anyone had newer reviews. I thought the newer palette eye looked more blended and noticed you had to do a little extra effort on the “old eye” to make them match. Great video! ❤
I predict that warm toned shadow will become a thing again, probably a new interpretation of the 2016 warm looks, but I think the cool toned eyeshadow look is on the way out. You look gorgeous with this look.
1st thing your eyes are stunning. I have palettes that are pretty old too, and good thing I haven't gotten a bad reaction. Sometimes i do notice that some palettes/eyeshadow don't perform the same after few yrs.
I think is a question of Law. At least, in Europe, brands have to put in their products the date of expiration, but that date doesn't mean the product is bad.... It can last much more... We've just have seen... Thanks, Angela, from Spain.
I love ABH eyeshadow formula 😍 I bought Natasha Denona Glam palette and compared it with the ABH Sultry palette and I actually like the Sultry palette better I wish ABH would have made the Sultry palette permanent like Modern Renaissance and Soft Glam palettes
I had both palettes (glam and sultry) and I gave the ND one, because there’s no comparison between both formulas. I always prefer absolutely ABH shadows. But new palettes are not of my like. I wish she will launch a new palette as astonishing as their oldest
I think there the same but the Red shade seemed a little duller on the older palette to me but honestly there the same so I gotta pull out that palette and use it again
I still use my OG Modern Renaissance 😅 I bought it maybe a year after it first came out. Have major pan on my fav shades and I plan to use them up fully 😊
Gonna guess before I watch the video that looking at you, the new one is on your right eye--on the left to me. I was in my 20s in the 80s and I was using all my eyeshadows for at least a decade before this modern era of so many big eyeshadow palettes. I really don’t think they go bad unless they start to smell. I still have a L’Oreal Color Riche set from the 80s-- I don’t use it but it doesn’t smell.
Thank you for this. I was wondering if I should declutter my Modern Ren. The new one is definitely more vibrant. I used my Modern Ren around valentines day and I didn't like it so much but it may just be adjusting back to the ABH formula.
Stumbled upon this video and honestly, the new renaissance looks cool toned. I like new mattes, but i like old shimmer - tis look more refined on the eye.
The new palette did have more pigment. Very pretty look. I just ordered your Sigma palette I'm so excited! I can't believe Sigma discounted the influencer collabs!!! Unfortunately your brushes were sold out.
Honestly, if I didn’t know you used two different palettes, I would think both eyes look the same. Because I know what to look for, I can see a slight difference between the two eyes. The dark shades in the new palette are a little punchier than they are in the old palette, but it’s such a slight difference. Thanks for making this video!
I was wondering how the newer palettes compared re: formula since formulas can change etc over time! I think the pigmentation/depth differences you experienced was likely due to the older palette's age since I noticed that eye shadows get less pigmented as they get up in age. They do look exactly the same, though!
the newer palette is defintely a littler warmer and more pigmented im also noticing it has less kickback than the original one, but then again you go in pretty aggressively with your brush with raw sienna...but i do think it looks warmer, i think they may have reformulated their formula slighlty because i do notice that their newer palettes have way less kickback and fallout, that they're cleaner to use, i loved the modern renissance original palette but hated using it because i wouldnt have time to clean my vanity in the morning when i was rushing and it would stain the surface so id stop using it everyday, but it is a special palette to me because this is the palette that got me interested in colour cosmetics and just fall in love with the colour story
I was just eyeing my Modern Renaissance palette, shes very old and dusty so I'm trying to pan her. I wondered if I needed a new one. You did this right in time! Both eyes look beautiful, I like the older side a bit better...strange
This is funny to me because I just threw mine out yesterday. I don’t know why I was attached to it. We had many memories together. Lol. Wow 7 years old. I have a KVD shade and light I have to throw out as well. Plus others. Powder lasts longer then creams for sure but my mature eyelids just don’t look cute with powder anymore.
Thank you for doing this! You were the reason I bought my modern Renaissance 5 years ago and I'm still loving it! I will take your old one 😁 mine has 5 shades that are almost completely gone :(
This is so interesting. I could tell right at the start of the video which eye was the new palette! Edit: I’m also one of those people who had sensitive eyes and I unfortunately stopped using my old modern renaissance palette because I noticed a little redness and irritation in my eyes after using it in 2022!
I’ve never tried the palette can’t afford it honestly like wow just the two shades for blue eyes is so gorgeous I create the same kind of look with other palettes
Going off of Gwendolyn's comment I do have a video comparing Modern Renaissance to that wet n wild one! I don't remember how they compared but I know the colors are super similar
If you prowl Sephora online often enough they have really good sales once in a blue moon I bought mine at half off in 2022… or maybe 2021 can’t remember lol
Just swatched my palette that I bought in 2017. I didn’t remember how AMAZING this palette is… so buttery, it blends itself ❤ I was planning a blue eye look (some people plan their outfits, I plan my makeup 😂) for tomorrow but now I really want to use this palette!
I'm not at the end but this is a great idea for video and I chose wrong 😄I actually think the old side is blended better more to my liking. Thats great to know the palette still performs well. I have tons of old palettes I use🤷🏽♀️I returned my palette since for some strange reason I did not like the shades on me
There is a difference. The newer one is more vibrant and less blurry. I saw it only once you mentioned you had applied different eyeshadow palettes to either one. If it works for you then rock it.
the new pigments look a little more red/wine, and the ochre seemed to have more grey in it, and the vermeer seemed less intense than the old one. When all finished, I like the new better. Somehow, the new eye looks a bit more elegant. This was fun. Love ABH palettes.
I love ABH formula. They make a makeup novice like me, look good. So easy, to blend. Not too many brands out there do that for me. I've narrowed my makeup brands to only three and ABH is the first. ❤
THANK YOU so much Angela for making this video! :D You just made my whole week! Now I can relax and enjoy my eyeshadow collection even more. This was so much fun to watch!
i could clearly see a difference, but weirdly enough i struggled to identify which was wish! the shimmer is clearly old on the right (your left), it's doing that kinda powdery bunching up thing whereas the new one is still smooth and metallic. but my brain was telling me the mattes on (your left) were blended better but actually turns out they've just lost their impact a little due to age... you weren't imagining things, the new red ochre is WAAAAAY more pigmented even so, i think the old palette performs exceptionally well for its age. an abh palette is an investment for sure but you can't grumble at the price point when it continues to perform years past its advertised use by date!
I always feel like new pallets are too pigmented and hard to work with, because I’m very fair and eyeshadow really shows up on me. So I kind of like it when they get older and have a little bit less oomph.
i can tell difference myleft/your right eye the colours looks slighly deeper and warmer like more bronzey (the gold and brown on the outter corner) the other eye looks lighter and more pinky in undertone and the gold is slightly brighter and more pale
There is an old sigma palette. The untamed one I think. I know the formula changed for the better on the next palette and ever since. I’d love to know if they changed to formula to the better one on that original palette. I think you have it but I don’t know if you de cluttered it. I thing the better eyeshadow formula started with to Corda Rosa release. Or maybe it was the enchanted palette. 🤔
Very great video. I am not long to that make up hype but I was ever asking myself if I should get a lot of palettes when they expire after 1 till 3 years. That would be sad because I have some that I really love. But now I can sleep peacefully 😊.
i thought i was the only one who noticed the fall out on cyprus umber. i first used it many years back and the amount of fall outs scared me so much as a makeup beginner that til this day, with so much more experiences in my hand, i'm still terrified of that dark brown and never touched it again.
I used my 2017 modern renaissance palette today and the formula is still amazing. The colors literally blended themselves
Yayy I'm so glad it still works for you!
mine no more.
the colors didn't last that long. Especially not the glittering ones. nonetheless, I still enjoy using them. the reds are fabulous. only the durability is no longer with me as at the beginning.
Seeing how many eyeshadow palettes I own, this was comforting to think that powder products stand a better chance long term than cream products 😅
Cream products and liquid mixed with chemicals. It’s like milk
100%!

the newer palette is defintely a littler warmer and more pigmented im also noticing it has less kickback than the original one, but then again you go in pretty aggressively with your brush with raw sienna...but i do think it looks warmer, i think they may have reformulated their formula slighlty because i do notice that their newer palettes have way less kickback and fallout, that they're cleaner to use, i loved the modern renissance original palette but hated using it because i wouldnt have time to clean my vanity in the morning when i was rushing and it would stain the surface so id stop using it everyday, but it is a special palette to me because this is the palette that got me interested in colour cosmetics and just fall in love with the colour story
I was just eyeing my Modern Renaissance palette, shes very old and dusty so I'm trying to pan her. I wondered if I needed a new one. You did this right in time! Both eyes look beautiful, I like the older side a bit better...strange
Glad I could save you $45! lol
Yes!! This video is so fun, we need more:))))💚💝💚
Thank you for doing this!
Wet n wild makes a good dupe, rose in the air palette and it has good reviews.
I love your hair!!!!
I love how pretty your look came out. I did guess right.
Just swatched my palette that I bought in 2017. I didn’t remember how AMAZING this palette is… so buttery, it blends itself ❤ I was planning a blue eye look (some people plan their outfits, I plan my makeup 😂) for tomorrow but now I really want to use this palette!
I plan my makeup too! And then grab a random tshirt, jeans, and a baseball cap. 😂
I'm not at the end but this is a great idea for video and I chose wrong 😄I actually think the old side is blended better more to my liking. Thats great to know the palette still performs well. I have tons of old palettes I use🤷🏽♀️I returned my palette since for some strange reason I did not like the shades on me
Ooohhh I've been waiting for this one!!!
I like the new eye shadow.
I was able to guess which eye is what, and yes, there is a difference. I like the old palette side better.
Omg I guessed it. It looks more vibrant (new palette). Now I’m looking at my palette thinking I need a refresh.
Honestly, at the beginning I thought the left side was the new palette. Great video and thank you for sharing!
They both are gorgeous I can not tell the difference. How long can you keep makeup before it goes out of date xx
I could immediately tell which eye was the new palette, but will still continue to use my own old palette.
I did pick the new side correctly. The colour on the outer corner was a bit more pigmented.
Best palette ever! I've hit pan in 3 shades and I will for sure repurchase it!
It's sooo good!
Im so glad you liked the video!
@@angelaabright Absolutely loved it! :)
i could clearly see a difference, but weirdly enough i struggled to identify which was wish! the shimmer is clearly old on the right (your left), it's doing that kinda powdery bunching up thing whereas the new one is still smooth and metallic. but my brain was telling me the mattes on (your left) were blended better but actually turns out they've just lost their impact a little due to age... you weren't imagining things, the new red ochre is WAAAAAY more pigmented
even so, i think the old palette performs exceptionally well for its age. an abh palette is an investment for sure but you can't grumble at the price point when it continues to perform years past its advertised use by date!
The newer pallette has a deeper outer corner color (I don’t remember the name). You can see it since you first put it on.
Yes it does have more depth
the new pallate is sooo warmer than old one!
I got rid of mine. It wasn’t special enough but kept the abh Mario palette.
I always feel like new pallets are too pigmented and hard to work with, because I’m very fair and eyeshadow really shows up on me. So I kind of like it when they get older and have a little bit less oomph.
The video is very helpful and you look stunning plus I love your haircut
Now is the hard question: which one will you declutter since you don't need two of the same palette now that this video has been filmed?
I'll probably keep both lol. The old one just for fun and the new one to use! Maybe I'll declutter the old one eventually haha
@@angelaabright Keep old _Vermeer_ and _Primavera_ depotted as a cheek highlighter ✨
I'm going to go buy that one!!! Thank you so much!!! You ALWAYS just make my day!❤️❤️❤️
You'll LOVE it!
@@angelaabright I just bought it! I'm going to watch the tutorial from today. 🥰
i can tell difference myleft/your right eye the colours looks slighly deeper and warmer like more bronzey (the gold and brown on the outter corner) the other eye looks lighter and more pinky in undertone and the gold is slightly brighter and more pale
Oooh I like that idea! I think I still have untamed
I love that pallete. Gorgeous eye look ❤⭐❤⭐❤⭐❤
Very great video. I am not long to that make up hype but I was ever asking myself if I should get a lot of palettes when they expire after 1 till 3 years. That would be sad because I have some that I really love. But now I can sleep peacefully 😊.
Yayy! Im glad it was helpful!
Hi. New viewer. Great video. What was the skin toned color you used to blend out seams of shadow. Thank you in advance!
The new palette definitely has more depth in the darker shadow
The new one is more pigmented and warmer
Beautiful look. What earrings are you wearing? So pretty!
They're from Ana Luisa! www.analuisa.com/collections/bestsellers/products/double-hoop-earrings-ashley/
i thought i was the only one who noticed the fall out on cyprus umber. i first used it many years back and the amount of fall outs scared me so much as a makeup beginner that til this day, with so much more experiences in my hand, i'm still terrified of that dark brown and never touched it again.
This is making me want to buy the Mod ren again
You two are so cute! ❤
