I remember back in like Season 2 or so when a friend of mine and me decided to play Zilean and Renekton botlane. We had some success with it, in lower elo atleast, because that crocodile with a Zilean E on his head was zooming through the lane like he was on fucking crack...
Zilean just makes sense, everybody deals so much damage, making a mistake can be punished so hard. So having a revive late game with around 25 sec cooldown is just insanely good. Everybody also underestimates him, 'Oh yeah zilean did his ult, never mind he got it back'. He's also really aggresive, I like to pick him with a duo jungler. Pretty good with Nocturne. If I duo bot I would pick him with ashe. Just so you can land accurate bombs.
Even if you can't land your bombs accurately, just throwing them on the floor to zone the enemy is enough. They never wanna walk into a zilean bomb so you have that advantage 🤣
Amazing video again! Is there a chance on a fiddlesticks video? The fear is pretty good CC, and as long as you have brush control, it should be pretty reliable to pull off.

i feel like lvl 4 gives you a good power spike, you will be able to capitalize on enemies overextending with your adc. also i like to deep ward enemy jungle whenever its free to do. Also speed up your adc.
I am a zilean main and don't go this build. Go full ap and cooldown. Take ultimate spam runes. Zilean qwq combo nearly one shots. And ultimate revives with full ap. With this build you nearly one shot 5 enemy by using one qwq combo. You can test the damage and cooldown on bots. With Ult spamming runes use ult take an assist or kill it will be ready 20 seconds later.
Also a good combo when you have a lot of points in e and are chasing someone e yourself then q in front of yourself and slow the enemy q yourself again when in range to hit stun and never miss again
Zilean is also really strong against champions with 'predictable' movement for example: draven catching an axe, tf ult porting in, ryze ult, teleport etc etc. You can predict where they will move and lay 2 bombs in the spot to get an instant stun. Same theory applies to statis like zhonya, guardian angel and similair abilities.
As zilean main 360k~ mastery, i recommend to take runes: MAIN - glacial augment - Boots or watch - Cosmic insight or Approach velocity. Second - MANAflow band + transcendence OR presence of mind + coup de grace or Cut down runes. Glacial will give your teammates a free damage reduction, and additional AOE slow. If you`re mid or top, glacial gives you a nice slow for AOE enemies, which can secure kills in ganks, or in roams, and in teamfight you will be control monster. As for items, mid or top - buys Goddess tear + 2 red pot first, as sup - default sup item, then first back 400 or 700 gold, if you back at 400 - buy tear, 700 gold allows you to buy boot + tear, if you have boots rune, then back a little later, with 850~ gold, for tear + magic book for 435~ gold, so you will have you snowbolling damage. If you wanna harras enemy, just throw 1 Q, dont hase to use your W next. If you did Q-E enemy, you can easily press W-Q-AA-E-AA-AA, and outtrade even zed. Dont use half of your mana for just another Q. Without at least 60-80 AP from items, you will have no damage, but have great loss of mana by your skills. I`m often buys Tear and upgrade it into Seraphim`s first, its give us a lot of mana, AP, shield, and a little of other stats aswell. If you take runes that i told, then if you wanna buy luden, you can forget about it. Because you have Manaflowband + tear, or Presence of mind + tear, you will have a lot less troubles with mana, which allows you to take Night harvester as mythic, if enemies are squishy. Optional will be Crown or evenshroud mythics. Always good one mythic still is everfrost tho. Before you buy 2 books for AP that costs 435g each, you will have no damage, so play safe. Hard counters to zil: Le blanc, Lissandra, Cho gath, Katarina. Asol is a skill matchup, tho. That`s all i got to tell you.
Almost a year later and this is still spot on. What do you think about tear into Rod of Ages? In combination with the new runes it's been allowing me to hit the mid-late game power spike so much faster since I get two free skill points.
@@Ryogogen New RoA is beast in matter of giving you tons of stat. Its not only AP that you want, its just makes you a lot of tankier, almost giving you free line with Mana flow rune + presence mind, which gives you mana regen, plust RoA gives mana for DMG taken, which you use to heal from casting skills, Its stupidly powerfull cause with one item, you can go around 3600k hp~ on 1-2 item build, meanwhile having a decent AP number, and decent MANA amount. I put it, if not a MUST-have item on zilean, then S or even S+ tier for zilean at least.
@@Ryogogen But i doing the same, with just a little change on playing zil. Byuing a Tear, next rush catalizator from RoA, then 2 books for ap, and only then, i build RoA item. I started to pick Electrocyte rune often, cause its easy procs with E-Q-AA, E-Q-W-Q, or AA-E-AA, etc. and gives you a decent amount of early-game damage, which zilean needs for mid or top the most.
Im a zilan player i have 62% win rate as a support 58% win rate as a mid. He really is underused and underated. a couple things i would add to your video would be his anti seige ability. so many times I go entire games without the enemy able to even touch my tower. Zilean can 1v2 in he bot lane protecting towers and preventing the enemies from getting plates. He is also great at pushing lanes. Thats one of his best skills. He is also great for helping steal objectives. if an enemy jungler i about to smite. just double bomb the objective, the enemy is stunned and does enough damage for the steal or to allow your own jangler to smite.
Little tip from a Zil main : you can QQW. Yeah, it works ^^ ! It's a kind of "buffer". You just have to do'nt move your mouse to far. Pick a location, QQW, and the two bombs launch at light speed.
He means like press the buttons QQW quickly in succession. The second Q will buffer and automatically throw once you press W making the combo much faster!
When I first started League about 2 years ago, I tried Zilean as I was trying different stuff, and I felt out of my depth as the double bombs combo was waaaay too hard for a beginner that never played league (it's not that difficult after I got used to the controls). Came back a year and a half later, now he's one of my favorites. He's so good because he extends the margin of error for your team and make losing fights into winning ones by himself by just applying the stun or slowing the enemy or pulling a clutch ult on your carry. So satisfying!

Not sure i agree that zyra plays well into zilean. Zikean outrages and can initiate on zyra anytime. Not to mention he can rev anyone she blows her combo on. As a zyra player, I really don't have the best of time in lane against zil
Sorry Jef :( I took those comments after talking with the man himself. It seems like depending on the lane you could play differently, but, to keep the video concise I chose the path most often traveled early game
Zilean is really weak early game and good players will punish you. He's not wrong and the stats back it up, if Zilean was strong early you'd expect a higher winrate early but he has a low winrate early in the game that rises as the game goes on.
@@asherelias9571 he's weak until lvl 4 from my experience playing him for a couple years. He's also not strong either kinda on even ground with enemy laners for the most part. You will be able to punish the other laners if they get too close and enemy jungler isnt around. (deep ward enemy jungle, when theyre ganking other lanes.)
Strange, I picked up zilean after not playing him since the rework, I used to play terrible champs and make them work like urgot as well, and I did a search for a build and its the build thats in this video, I did a few games and did well enough however so many times my bombs did nothing to tanky champs which a lot are now. So I started to get my support starter, rush liandries into boots then crystal septer and I can kill any champ along with boost tons with my cooldowns, im often doing more damage than 2/3 champs along with tons of assists from normal support things but with the ability to 100-0 in 4/5 bombs or just bomb once even without the stun its still a massive slow thanks to septer
I got 80% win rate has support (27 games has Zilean (80%WR), and 23 games has Pantheon (80%WR) ) let me tell you that at start of games ppl say "trollpick" because i its kinda off meta. I started with that build, but now i play more to the matchups. But i always take Boots of Mobility, and use the E mostly on my minions (team mates) :D Best tip i can give is to play outside of vision when you are suporting some one. (Ex evading Jungle)
If they were to tell me,"You got to replace someone in the world championship", I'd take the champ I play best. That would be Zilean. I don't have to think about how to play him, he suits me perfectly for my play style. His passive is very blah though, and easy to activate at the wrong time by mistake. Everyone at the receiving end seem to just love it. He rocks with glacial augment. Haste is just godly on him. He's my champ, the old man with a dumb clock on his back.
I've always mained Zilean ever since I played league! It's sad to see his old Q go but at least he got some good stun in place of it. good times, love the guy!
same. If I like how the ADC is playing I sometimes give it to them instead, even more so if the ADC has some CC. You'd be surprised how hard you can win lane with a good adc and land a stun.
I probably should have mentioned he's experimented with it and said he did enjoy it -- but still likes this build more! Definitely worth a shot if you're gonna try Zil

His poke isnt bad but it isn't amazing. He cant really poke vs all in bot lanes, after lvl 6 hes great tho
