    As the audio engineer and small engine guy, I make the exhaust note comparison to having a couple of strings out of tune on the guitar for the stock engine and it might sound kind of okay. The ported saw is the same guitar with all of the strings in tune with the intonation set right on and it's perfect.

    I'm confused how you can run those uppers that wide, aren't you going to hang ring-ends in them? I literally have multiple big bore kits I considered ruined because using them meant that a piston's locator pins would be within 1mm of my uppers (IE I did my uppers before realizing the issue) but seeing this I wonder if it matters...how could they not get hung though?

    Question: hard to find answers to a cpl questions. Not nessarily for saw engines but carburetors 2strokes in general. Looks as we believe in rough surfaces on intake side of things all wat to combustion chamber. so then do you think rough surface on crank counterweights would add to aiding in atomized fuel charge. Like rough/not mirror finish on intake port-transfers help with this then would it hold same for the crank counterweights aswell? them can be glass smooth from factory and crank case belly can be glass smooth as well. I’m wrkn a 4 cylinder 2stroke at this moment and just looking at this crank counterweights and there mirror glass smooth i envision it creating surface tension . So was wondering if could help with breaking surface tension and creating more atomized charge if I take the mirror finish off the crank counterweights . Motor I’m wrkn it a bad bad castings from factory so at this point I’ve got intake/transfers/ports all cleaned up. But I have glass finish crank counterweights and thinking it could help to be not be a glass finish. Zero info out there. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
    Roughing crank counterweights
    Roughing crankcase are my two questions. Great wrk btw. I was skeptical when I first found you because there are hacks everywhere as you know. But your quality is impressive and your the best porter on utube by far. Pat your back man you deserve it. An anyone that knocks you is a nobody.

    • @johnscustomsaws
      @johnscustomsaws  2 роки тому

      I have ground "fins" or "paddles: into the counterweights before... they call it a "veined" or "turbo" crank... I think it does a lot for performance but anything I do the "dyno guy" will try to copy it and throws on his machine and says it doesn't add power... honestly I don't care what his dyno says but until I can prove it I just do it for personal saws and good customers... I really need to get my own saw dyno and then I can test the stuff myself

      @@johnscustomsaws ps I’m wrkn on carburetored merc sportjet engine 120hp 4 cylinder 2stroke. Ports and transfers and casting joints are so bad that there’s plenty info on porting them and cleaning up transfers and casting ect to gain 10hp per cylinder just no info on my thought of giving crank counterweights and case a rough finish like 80 grit something along them line. Compression is not a 1:1 gain for power. It's a small percentage. I prefer ~180 psi because cylinder temps stay cooler. I can run my ported saw all day (13k in the cut) and it's cool enough when I set it down that I can touch the muffler.

The nitrous is going to be hot and expand that piston a good bit so you are doing the right thing by thinking.030 squish… you can’t measure the piston expansion after the nitrous run but you could toss the compression tester on it quickly to see what kind of increase you have??? Thoughts? Piston-spring clips do clear this (though I'm still re-watching this vid wondering how you won't hang a ring, seems your intake port would just eat teh locator pins from both sides...is it because the piston is usually tilting forwards on powerstroke, at least once past exhaust-crack?)

      17 on my 500i is the tightest... i know sone stock huskys are like 16 from factory which is crazy to me... but reallu it is all relative to where your other ports are at... strato saws are a different deal all together also... the only way to know for sure is to push it until it goes the other way and when u start losing power then you know 🤷‍♂️

      Sorry my initial reply I misread your question and I was talking about blowdown my man... as far as SQUISH... I personally would not go below .017 but that is just me... and the numbers I was giving you in my first reply I was talking about blowdown... my personal 500i runs 17 degrees of blowdown and I have heard of stock saws running even as tight as 16... I personally haven't ran tighter than 17 myself but I know people that have ran 14 degrees and the saws ran so it really depends on the way its built

      "talk is cheap", in an anon youtube comment, is about as ironic a statement as I've seen all week. I'd say his videos are more than enough but don't suspect you're open to reason (if you are, just watch his videos....and WTH are you implying would be so damning in the cylinder head anyways??)
