- After being overhauled, the MSC Korea was ready to leave the drydock complex.
The company that did the overhaul (Engine Deck Repair) did a great job and allot of work.
The 2 propellers you see at the beginning of the video are brand new propellers which are meant to replace old props on the ships. They both have a weight of aprox 60ton/each
They have a new design which will make the ship sail slower, but with much more fuel efficiency which is good for the environement.
A summary of the work done by the company :
* The entire hull was given a fresh layer of paint (12.000m²) which consumed about 45.000liter of paint.
* Propellershaft was refurbished, which needed the removal of the propeller from it's shaft.
* Some engineroom maintenance (replacing old pipes and valves)
* Bearings of the main engine and generators replaced
* Electrical systems checked and replaced where needed
* Deck winches got an overhaul, and also the anchorchain was checked for damage/strenght
Great work by EDR !

After several years, your videos are still the best music on youtube. The rythms and tunes of those ABC diesels are wonderful. Thank you.
I agree the best sound out there
I can sit and listen to the sound of these diesels and literally fall asleep the sound of them
Just awesome. To watch all 3 controls all the time is a brilliant insight to the way of controlling the system. I just couldn’t stop watching for a moment. Splitting the screen in three was a master stroke. I have been lucky enough to have a trip on a Voith tug and it brings back happy memories.. great work and now subscribed to watch more. Amacf
Thank you for a wonderful video. Nice to see tug operations from the captains chair. Your triple camera view was excellent, really appreciate that. That is a very large shear leg crane at the end!
Such an amazing propulsion system.
Bedankt!!! Zeer gewaardeerd.
Really nice HD video, captured the dock environment, well done

Dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you guys are stoned like me during the covid times you can watch all of the latest series on InstaFlixxer. Been streaming with my brother lately :)
@Nico Tristan Definitely, have been watching on Instaflixxer for since december myself :D
I bet that it is very challenging to keep the line taut when you are in front of a large ship under its own power. You do a phenomenal job of it! But the engines were singing for about 4 minutes as you pulled that ship around, between about minute 13 to 17.
The wind was blowing pretty hard that day, it looks like. With a ship that lightly loaded, sitting so high in the water, it is like a giant sail, I imagine. Great work, and probably a bit stressful. Thank you.
The bow thruster on that ship is pretty impressive.
I love and enjoy your fids very much and thank you for all the work you do in the boat , and at home to give us this view . Thank you again from the west coast of Canada ..
+Glen Har You're welcome :)
@@ShippingHarbors your tugboat looks awesome with the turbo whistle with diesel power 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Tug boat drift :)
I like how modern tugs can maneuver. Move sideways and turn on a dime. Really cool!
Nicely executed Captain. Mission completed now let’s get the “H” out!
I love hearing those ABC Diesels at full power!!! Keep up the great video!! More videos at full power would be awesome!!
Indeed
Thank you so much for your work these videos require! It's so informative to see how these tugboats are really used and handled. Great!
You're welcome! Al this very moment a new dual camera video is processing. It will be online within 48 hours i hope.
Super video! Wonderful to see the controls and movement of the vessel. Thanks very much.
13:35
To the next few minutes we’re my absolute favorite
Spooled those diesels to full load was amazing
Wow !! God bless you brother . Awesome video
Nice job. 👍
We had 4 VSP's on our previous ferry (4x1250 kW).
Really great view and double camera work. I'd love to see more videos like this
enjoyed that. good to see how other obs are done.
Heerlijke tijd , lees : 1977. Mooie video (al de andere trouwens ook)
Great video ! Very interesting. Love those diesel engines :3
Very suspenseful
byutyfull video....tank you....
excellent video for white noise
+WhiteGangster400 haha what do you mean with that?
Just the light sound of the engines is relaxing, i left this video running in another tab and i almost fell asleep.
Great stuff, I really enjoy your videos. How long does it normally take for someone, who is experienced and skilled with 'normal' propeller & rudder boats, to learn the Voith system?
good stuff
unbelievable. i really cant belueve its you Ben bt great nd awesome stuff
It looks like,(particularly when leaving the key-side), the ships' thruster is opposing your pull?
Some special technique there?
Would be nice to hear the radio as well.
Do you have mirrors to keep an eye fwd or is your head on the swivel all the time? Makes for a sore neck.
Does the pilot give you a heading to pull or and angle from the bow?
Really like the time stamps.
Last question; Is the scale indicator below the wheel a directional vector indicator?
Thanks
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing! What do the red buttons at the bottom left with yellow lights do? Each time they changed the position it sounded like the engine rpm changed.
+brockmirabella Those are indeed the engine RPM controls.
Beautiful video in scenery and skill.
Is the set of levers on the left prop pitch and the dual row of lights engine speed?
Which port is this? With a harbor pilot involved I recall hearing tugs' horns answering a pilot's orders. Did you do that or just radio? Amazing you could go full astern power on that one thin cable without parting it!
Relaxing and interesting to watch - old Navy ship OOD underway.
Great Video! Are there no fenders in the lock? And will the container carrier leave the lock without tugs at 5-6 bft??
Pulling side way tug created a lot of resultant....
Thank you very much for your videos. I am an R/C modeller and i am trying to build a Voith Schneider tugboat in large scale so your videos are perfect for setting my Radio.
I also have a question. Sometimes you are pressing a button behind the steering wheel like on 32:06. What that button doing?
Thank you from Greece
Voith capt here, it does nothing to propulsion system, could be winch adjustment, best regards
A couple of locomotives-in-hand. How does one get to do this work?
camera and all the squeaking suggest significant vibrations whenever the engines start working harder, but bad (or good? :D) is in person?
Do you have a camera behind for when you’re going backwards?
Weer een prachtige video
Thanks !
great turbo noise
Yes,Yes,Yes - thank you for all these unique dual camera videos! Some questions please - do this tugboat has two conning positions on the bridge, I mean - do you have separated levers for (revolution, rudder and driving pitch ) when you drive the tugboat forward and other levers when you drive backward or you just reverse the direction of the captain chair on 180 dgr? And when you pull the ship driving backward how do you orientate yourself - with radar, electronic chart, ais or visual?
+ufolev Hello, these tugs only have 1 conning position, and the captains chair turn 180° indeed :) Orientation is done visually most of the time, and at night the radar and chart is also used.
+ShippingHarbors Thank you. Its so interesting ! What do you mean Which is better - ASDtug or Voithtractor ?
ufolev
Well to be honest i would not know that :) I only have experience with Voith Schneider tugs ;)
+ShippingHarbors Thank you. I will wait for other videos from you! ALL BEST!
Good day mate, I'm an ASD Tug master since 2010, but I never had a chance to handle a VSP.
From this video I noticed that VOITH mark on the rudder was upside down, is that mean that this tug doesn't have 2 controller on the bridge? And you all the time must facing at the stern with the controller that supposed to be used facing the bow?
Sorry for the bad english, coz I'm from Indonesia.
all VSP tug have 3 control, port & stbd. of the bridge and 1 on aft facing on astern...
Awesome. It would be even better if we could hear coms
What is the pamel next to the throttles?
Engine RPM selection. The 'throttles' control the fore/aft thrust direction/magnitude of the rotors, the wheel controls the side to side direction/magnitude of the thrust. The rotors are fixed (through a gearbox) to engine rotation. With this setup, you can have 'fine' controls for unloaded maneuvering, or 'high power' when pulling/pushing ships.
Do those big ships have any fendering or just sit up along side the brick wharf?
+Nik Brearley Some of them use tires to put between the ship or other stuff (don't know the english name for it).
Are we facing aft?
I’m so confused, what was the point to move it from one ship yard to the other?
wasnt a shipyard , that was a sea lock , antwerp has tides , that was i tidal lock
I’ve watched many of these videos. Can someone explain what each of the 3 controls are doing? It’s not immediately obvious watching this what each is doing. The Voith controls are very different from a normal tug.
There are two diesel engines powering two thrusters. The thrusters can be turned through 360 degrees, and have variable pitch blades. The wheel positions the thrusters, the two handles vary the blade pitch, and the red buttons control the engine RPM (speed). By varying the blade pitch, the amount of thrust can be changed without changing engine RPM. When lots of thrust is needed, RPM is increased as well as blade pitch. Turning the thrusters allows to tug to pull from any angle.
looks like this was in Rotterdam , or atleast a dutch Tug company , the "nooit afzetten!"( never switch off !!!) in the cam shot on the right gives that away.
antwerpen dus
Leuke video.
can you explain what the controls do
move the boat forwards and backwards and steer the boat.
Left propeller.. right propeller and steering..
Each lever makes the corresponding propeller thrust forward and backward. The wheel makes both propellers thrust left and right. The buttons control engine/propeller power.
@@KingdaToro correction , thrust 360 degrees around for the steeringwheel , they are pods
@@dimievers5573 They're not pods. You're thinking of Z-drives, traditional propellers on a mount that rotates 360 degrees. This has Voith Schneider propellers, a cycloidal drive system. Like this: ua-cam.com/video/xGnOZF9YIe8/v-deo.html
What's the top speed of the tug with nothing on the end?
13.5 knots
ShippingHarbors that seems deceptively slow compared to the wash created
Never seen a tug do a reverse entry drift
Next time wish to hear the pilot's orders
Voor welke rederij/bedrijf vaar je?
groeten
Hello Klaas, I can not put that in here (public place). I tried to send you a private message but there was no private message 'button' at your profile ;)
other people: OMG NICE VID
me in my head: this is watching grass grow?
I seen press tubes link
A comment from 2018
No disrespect i am cadet in merchant marine and our senior most master used to say tha that focus and study hard unless you wanna tug boat pilot then i don't know xD
These lovely hands belong to a lady.
Why not a sidstick instead of a steering wheel....G@ Mechelen
hands must hurt after a day..
Looks like a real person Xbox game
lees : vaRen sorry
Show us your face
Try hard
There’s all the boomers in the comments then there’s just me
Tug operator's hands looked rather feminine.
Also what i was thinking.
