As a Southerner who doesn't listen to, but is constantly exposed to, country and bluegrass music, I absolutely love Whitechapel. They know how to fuse the vibe of Southern rock and country into deathcore without making it sound corny or forced. It all sounds so natural and works perfectly.
Even the lyrics fit into the Southern vibe. "You're just a boy with his mother's eyes" is the kind of line that could cut deep into people around here, and even non-metalhead friends of mine would think the line "I'll find my peace when the bones of the devil lay at my feet" is one of the most powerful lines in music.
Agree 100%, I’ve never heard a metal band remind me of home so much.

When bands releases music videos to "old" songs, always messes with your head. Especially when you dont actively follow the band. Nice to see the video though.
That’s a fantastic album and song. I love Phil’s vocals. He’s so good. Whitechapel and Fit for an Autopsy are my fav deathcore bands

Parkway drive needed to listen to the last two whitechapel albums to see how to evolve your sound the right way cause their last album just didn’t hit the mark. What whitechapel is doing now does show intelligence and a honing of songwriting craft
I thought Reverence was a good mix of the musicianship of old Parkway with the catchiness of the newer stuff. I loved Reverence and I was excited for Darker Still but man, I was let down. At least Killing With a Smile and Deep Blue still exist. 🥲
