    That is really handy to know that it has the zoom function, that makes it more interesting!
    Thanks for the video! I was looking at the AD300 because of using the same charger as the AD200s I already have, but the AD100 looks very tempting.

    Great video! I was looking at the 200 but ended up going with the 100 because of their size and compatibility with the V1 (batteries and accessories)

      Thank you! I think the size of these often gets overlooked for power, but there's something to be said in being able to have a nice compact lighting kit that can still get the job done.

    This has been the best video I've found to answer the why of this flash. I just picked up an AD200, and an AD600. I've been looking at more AD200's, but kept wondering about also using a mix of AD100s and AD200s. This video has been the first to justify the price to me. I keep a speedlight in my backpack, but the AD200 has its own case with modifiers. I could ditch 2 lenses for 2 AD100's in the camera compartment, and get a third in the top compartment without needing to add another bag. Take out the speedlight case, and I could add all the modifiers for the AD100s. I could reconfigure my backpack to take AD200s and modifiers, but using AD100s, I don't have to modify anything, and I can easily go back to carrying more lenses and less lights by just swapping items in the compartments.
    It also looks like I could just place the AD100 upright with a dome without the need for a light stand or mount in certain scenarios. That would have worked great the other day when I needed to take out the shadows my key light was throwing on the wall.
    I don't see it replacing my current AD200, but I do see it as adding to what I can do.

    Been looking to add a ad100 pro to my line up. The ad600pro I have is just too over powering for indoor shoots and bulky. I will most likely use it for the outdoors and the ad100pro for indoor events or shade. I also liking it has a built in fan and zoom capability.

    Hey Shawn, thank you for this informative video. I myself have two AD200’s with the round heads, and one V1. I also saw Robert Hall’s comparison. I shoot dance events. I use the extension heads (EC200) for my AD200s as I mount them on the stands to eliminate being top-heavy together with the umbrellas I use.
    I was thinking if I switched to the AD100 pro, I won’t need to setup with extension heads as the AD100 pros wouldn’t be as top heavy. Can you confirm that? Then my setup would be simplified. Keep the videos coming. Cheers!

    • @shawnkempleportraits

      Thank you! I never got the extension heads with my 200s, but did have some almost near falls with them, so it was on my list before switching to the 100s. The 100 is definitely more balanced in that the whole light is right within the bracket and not sticking out like the 200, so I would say it is much better balanced.
      I'd recommend picking up 1 100 to take a look and then switching over at that point. Where you have the V1 being able to use the same batteries and chargers is a nice bonus. I picked up the 3 bay charger Adorama sells for the V1 which was a nice addition to charge all my batteries at once.

    Hope you find your 100 your best option. There's plenty of reports suggesting the 200 Pro has better color accuracy and doesn't suffer from the green tint issue. I'm sticking with my 600 and 300 pro as a great outdoor combination. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

    Hey, I've been trying to figure out how to use a tripod as a light stand. What's the correct adapter? Also when using the round heads with the little dome, do you find the light similar to using a small softbox or octobox?

    • @shawnkempleportraits
      @shawnkempleportraits  2 роки тому +3

      I use the Westcott M6 Tripod Plate which allows you to use a Tripod as a light stand. It has been really nice in a pinch or when I want to put a light lower than a normal light stand.
      I find using the dome nice if it is all I have to help spread the light, but even a smaller softbox/octobox will give softer light where the light source is bigger.

    I can’t really find a good softbox for this light. You can use the s2 brackets but that bracket looks so big for this small light. This light also doesn’t work with magmod. Might as well just get the ad300pro and a godox softbox and you wouldn’t have to worry about a bracket.
    I’m stuck between the ad100pro and the 300pro

      Yes, I love making my subjects look like aliens! :) I've been following the thread on that. I don't think I ever had an issue with this because I shoot flash using a Daylight White Balance (5200k) and the poster was using the Flash White Balance which at least with Canon means * Applicable with Speedlites having a color temperature transmission function. Otherwise, it will be fixed to approx. 6000K.

      100W is on the higher end of the speed light spectrum. There's more to light than just power though and the big thing on the AD100 for me is portability and the magnetic system for attaching gels.

    Literally have no idea what the logic was here. Selling the more expensive Ad200s as used items, you’d likely only get approximately the price of the AD100’s new. So no price/money advantage. If you had to position lights in the tiny studio out of shot or had some other use case were the size a real advantage other than I don’t want to tire my poor shoulders with heavier equipment…. I mean I also have that leak design bag, and you can pack a lot into that bag… for sure pack it so it zip up tighter than the loose set up you showed, plenty of room fit 2 x AD 200s

    • @shawnkempleportraits
      @shawnkempleportraits  3 роки тому +11

      As I mentioned, strictly on the round head, the AD100 produces more output than the AD200 does. I only use the round head because I like how easy it is to modify with the magnetic attachments. The other thing the AD100 has going for it is the size which was my other reasoning to switch. I can easily fit 3 of them in my camera bag making my set up a lot more compact and one less bag to have to carry with me. More power does not mean better in all scenarios, so it just depends on the type of photography you do. I just wanted to share my positive experience with these where I saw so many comments just going on about the power, but these do have some advantage even if the power is lower.

    • @russellbaston1223

      I can completly understand. I'm looking to sell AD200 to get the 100's. The 200's with extension and round head or round head alone are much more of a bulky passage to lug and use. The AD 200 has imho quite poor balance for fitting on stands. I have borrowd and used a couple of AD100's and, for me a much more useful, less tiring and more efficient bundle.
