18 years old here, 20 now, this performance was the first of nine that Diana gave in this contest, which she won. She doesn't have a "normal" style. Her own favourite of the nine is #6 on the list, "ВОРОНА" ("Crow") which is completely different and very extraordinary. (It would amaze you.) They don't begin to illustrate what she has already achieved, though. She sings everything under the sun and is head and shoulders above the rest. The woman in red is Julia Parshuta, a very well known and successful singer in her own right, as were all the judges, who were the fellow contestants. She and Diana became friends on the contest, and recently performed Toni Braxton's "Unbreak my Heart" as a duet live.
Diana does not have a “usual” style; she sings in all or almost all genres. The only thing that can be called her style is that when she makes covers, she turns them into something completely different, giving goosebumps to those listening. Thank you for the video!

First, this performance took place on September 25, 2021, when Diana Ankudinova was 18 years old and was invited to sing during the inaugural season of a new Russian vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn”. For the entirety of this competition she was competing against 8 other professional singers for the 9 week competition period. Including herself, there were 9 singer's all together and they all doubled as judges, and each singer performed one song per week. Diana and the other professional singers/judges were competing against each other, and based on their individual performances they awarded judging points to each other. When not actively performing, Diana was also a member of the judging panel, and each week, each singer took the stage and performed a different song, and each week they were required to use a different genre of music, along with using a different style. Diana Ankudinova performed her cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, Can't Help Falling In Love, and this performance demonstrated that Diana has developed what many vocal professionals say is a true contralto voice type. For those in you audience that may not know what a contralto is, a contralto is the lowest type of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare. Diana Ankudinova is classified and recognized as a “Dramatic Contralto” by most vocal professionals, but there are some purists that disagree. Some vocal professionals say, because Diana is singing outside of a formal opera setting, and because a Contralto voice type is almost exclusively associated with classical repertoire, Diana is not a true Contralto, but they are in the minority. Because a female singers vocal range is used to determine/define her voice type, during this performance of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, her vocal range was measured. Diana’s functional vocal range went from a low of C3 (male Tenor range) to a high of B♭5, (female Mezzo Soprano range) which now marks her as a true Contralto. Her deep, resonant, and profound sound can be classified as nothing else. During the opening of Can’t Help Falling In Love, her low Contralto voice is on full display. During past interviews Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and the lack of an upper range kept her out of the more prestigious Russian music academies. Diana, along with her voice teacher decided to concentrate extensively on improving and developing a higher vocal range. The improvement to her upper range is also on display during the middle portion of this performance. Near the end of Diana’s performance, the depth and the power of Diana’s “Dramatic Contralto” voice in her lower range is on full display. Dramatic Contraltos have the deepest, darkest, and richest sound and are the most powerful of the contralto voice types, and Dramatic Contralto’s are the rarest of the rare Contralto voice types. But it’s not all about how low or high can she go. It is the exceptional quality of her tone in both her lower and upper registers that makes her so very special. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth of her sound, along with her ability to create, access, and use an enormous amount of resonance. Diana has also mastered a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing, which is an extraordinary accomplishment for so young a singer. Someone that has mastered the polyphonic singing can create up to one, and sometimes up to two different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones. It is this polyphonic singing ability that can make it sound like more than one person singing, and is why some people believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of artificial electronic voice manipulation like Auto Tune, or a vocoder. Others say she is using pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Still others believe another person is singing off stage, in the background. She has also been accused of lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. Two things I would like to recommend. One. Go and do a little bit of a background research on who she is and how she became to be who she is today it will be well worth your time and it will give you a complete understanding of why she performs the way she does she puts a lot of emotion into her music and you will understand why she puts a lot of emotion into her performances 2 nd do a reaction to a song she did when she was 14 years old. Greetings from Scotland! Diana was just 18yo here. She is 20yo currently but I've been following her career since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she has increased her range even more since this. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices at the same time! Any song, any genre, in any language, Diana can sing it and improve it! You need a little back story to understand what helped "create" this unique phenomenon:- Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) a passing relative found her in her home with a broken collarbone and several other injuries. She went for the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage! This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. She has an extremely rare voice type she is a dramatic contralto the lowest deepest darkest most powerful voice type for a female and she has ability to sing with polyphonic overtones. She was only 18 years old the time of this performance she is currently 20. She was cast out on the street at the age of three beaten battered with a broken collarbone by her birth mother. She was placed in an orphanage but was later adopted by a loving family but at the age of five cannot speak properly . They decided to give her voice lessons to help with her speech but found out that she loved singing and had a remarkable talent and the rest is history. She has that same deep, powerful voice and it's an atmospheric folklore journey and world class performance. Она, как мы понимаем, и сама уже способна кое-что незаурядное сочинить - и это есть и будет поп-музыка. Более или менее талантливая. Но для чего-то по-настоящему большого, потрясающего, незабываемого - подобно "Can't Help Falling in Love" - всё-таки необходимы руки. Чьи-то сильные, крепкие, надёжные, творческие, а главное - щедрые руки. Как это случилось на всех её шоу , включая "Искусство Ханса Циммера". Богатый опыт оперного певца - не самого выдающегося, но много чего повидавшего, включая выступления в "Метрополитен-опера" - заставил его сказать именно то, что он сказал. The woman in red is Julia Parshuta, a very well known and successful singer in her own right, as were all the judges, who were the fellow contestants. She and Diana became friends on the contest, and recently performed Toni Braxton's "Unbreak my Heart" as a duet live.
Diana does not have a “usual” style; she sings in all or almost all genres. The only thing that can be called her style is that when she makes covers, she turns them into something completely different, giving goosebumps to those listening.

First, this performance took place on September 25, 2021, when Diana Ankudinova was 18 years old and was invited to sing during the inaugural season of a new Russian vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn”. For the entirety of this competition she was competing against 8 other professional singers for the 9 week competition period. Including herself, there were 9 singer's all together and they all doubled as judges, and each singer performed one song per week. Diana and the other professional singers/judges were competing against each other, and based on their individual performances they awarded judging points to each other.
When not actively performing, Diana was also a member of the judging panel, and each week, each singer took the stage and performed a different song, and each week they were required to use a different genre of music, along with using a different style. Diana Ankudinova performed her cover of Elvis Presley’s classic, Can't Help Falling In Love, and this performance demonstrated that Diana has developed what many vocal professionals say is a true contralto voice type. For those in you audience that may not know what a contralto is, a contralto is the lowest type of female voice, and a true contralto is very, very rare.
Diana Ankudinova is classified and recognized as a “Dramatic Contralto” by most vocal professionals, but there are some purists that disagree. Some vocal professionals say, because Diana is singing outside of a formal opera setting, and because a Contralto voice type is almost exclusively associated with classical repertoire, Diana is not a true Contralto, but they are in the minority.
Because a female singers vocal range is used to determine/define her voice type, during this performance of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, her vocal range was measured. Diana’s functional vocal range went from a low of C3 (male Tenor range) to a high of B♭5, (female Mezzo Soprano range) which now marks her as a true Contralto. Her deep, resonant, and profound sound can be classified as nothing else. During the opening of Can’t Help Falling In Love, her low Contralto voice is on full display.
During past interviews Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, and the lack of an upper range kept her out of the more prestigious Russian music academies. Diana, along with her voice teacher decided to concentrate extensively on improving and developing a higher vocal range. The improvement to her upper range is also on display during the middle portion of this performance.
Near the end of Diana’s performance, the depth and the power of Diana’s “Dramatic Contralto” voice in her lower range is on full display. Dramatic Contraltos have the deepest, darkest, and richest sound and are the most powerful of the contralto voice types, and Dramatic Contralto’s are the rarest of the rare Contralto voice types.
But it’s not all about how low or high can she go. It is the exceptional quality of her tone in both her lower and upper registers that makes her so very special. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth of her sound, along with her ability to create, access, and use an enormous amount of resonance.
Diana has also mastered a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing, which is an extraordinary accomplishment for so young a singer. Someone that has mastered the polyphonic singing can create up to one, and sometimes up to two different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones. It is this polyphonic singing ability that can make it sound like more than one person singing, and is why some people believe Diana Ankudinova is using some form of artificial electronic voice manipulation like Auto Tune, or a vocoder. Others say she is using pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Still others believe another person is singing off stage, in the background. She has also been accused of lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. Voice professionals along with sound recording engineers say no, there is No artificial manipulation of Diana's voice at all. No one else is singing off stage, nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. What you are hearing is the musical score, with a choir on a backing tracks to fill in and round out this performance. Diana Ankudinova, and only Diana Ankudinova is actually singing Can't Help Falling In Love.
One of the most asked frequently asked questions is, how does she do it? How does such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, profound, and resonant sound? Without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing those low notes to actually see what is happening, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana's ability to her dedicating hours and years to vocal training. But a large part of her ability is also to her just winning the genetic lottery. Diana Ankudinova was just born with her unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear to be longer and thicker than the vast majority of female singers. Her larynx (voice box) appears to also be larger, and her pharynx (throat) similarly appears to be longer and wider than a majority of other female singers, plus she has a large oral cavity (mouth). It’s this unique combination of vocal anatomy that appears to give Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce the low, deep, rich, and full sounds she is known for, but without actually scoping her vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure.
During Diana's performance of “Can’t Help Falling In Love”, the judge on the top row, who is the first to stand is a well known Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan who was invited to participate as a special guest judge on this inaugural competition, and he is married to world-famous opera soprano Anna Netrebko. At the end of Diana's performance she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of those competitors is also a well known contemporary Russian singer, Julia Parshuta. Julia is in the center row dressed all in red, and when she stands at the end of Diana's performance, she then then puts both hands on top of her head with a look of total shock and bewilderment. Finally, The “ShowMaskGoOn” concludes with Diana Ankudinova being awarded the most judging points over the 9 weeks, and was declared the show winner!

Greetings from Scotland! Diana was just 18yo here. She is 20yo currently but I've been following her career since she was around 13yo. Diana is a natural Dramatic Contralto so the lower registers are her comfort zone but she has increased her range even more since this. She also naturally sings with polyphonic overtones so it sounds like many voices at the same time! Any song, any genre, in any language, Diana can sing it and improve it! You need a little back story to understand what helped "create" this unique phenomenon:-
Diana's birthmother had multiple miscarriages but when Diana came along, she seemed to hate her. She verbally and physically abused her, trying to drown her and belittle her. It all culminated when (at 3yo) a passing relative found her in her home with a broken collarbone and several other injuries. She went for the authorities who removed Diana from her birthmothers care and placed her in an orphanage. For almost 2 years Diana never gave up hope and she knew that she was meant for something better. (This story is in her Wikipedia entry) Finally her new mother (Irina Ponik, who worked as a masseuse there occasionally) Signed her adoption papers and took her home. She vowed to pay Irina back for her kindness. Irina had a real struggle because Diana had obviously been badly affected by the experiences and at 5yo, she had a very bad stammer. It was recommended that she be taken for singing lessons to help this and immediately it was recognised that Diana had perfect pitch and an excellent ear for music and songs. 1 year later, at 6yo, Diana was performing solo on stage!
This young unique phenomenon sang everywhere and anywhere she could, working constantly to earn money for the family who rescued her. She has an extremely rare voice type she is a dramatic contralto the lowest deepest darkest most powerful voice type for a female and she has ability to sing with polyphonic overtones. She was only 18 years old the time of this performance she is currently 20. She was cast out on the street at the age of three beaten battered with a broken collarbone by her birth mother. She was placed in an orphanage but was later adopted by a loving family but at the age of five cannot speak properly . They decided to give her voice lessons to help with her speech but found out that she loved singing and had a remarkable talent and the rest is history. Подходящие слова удавалось найти лишь тем, кто готовил свою речь заранее и хорошо всё обдумал. А я ещё раз поразмыслил над тем, что сказали судьи. В словах каждого из них была своя правда, но сегодня я обратил особое внимание на высказывание Юсифа Эйвазова - о руках, в которые ей неплохо было бы попасть. Она, как мы понимаем, и сама уже способна кое-что незаурядное сочинить - и это есть и будет поп-музыка. Более или менее талантливая. Но для чего-то по-настоящему большого, потрясающего, незабываемого - подобно "Can't Help Falling in Love" - всё-таки необходимы руки. Чьи-то сильные, крепкие, надёжные, творческие, а главное - щедрые руки. Как это случилось на всех её шоу , включая "Искусство Ханса Циммера". Богатый опыт оперного певца - не самого выдающегося, но много чего повидавшего, включая выступления в "Метрополитен-опера" - заставил его сказать именно то, что он сказал. Ему эти сильные и щедрые руки здорово помогали в собственной карьере; продолжают помогать и сейчас. Так что его слова самые правильные - потому что самые трезвые, самые реалистичные. А что будет на самом деле - этого никто не знает, включая и саму Диану Анкудинову. Пока благосклонная судьба - в которую она верит - даёт ей время от времени реальные шансы, и она действительно раз за разом попадает в хорошие руки. This is the first round of a singing competition where the judges are the other contestants. It's obvious from their reactions that most of them had not heard Diana before. I was fortunate enough to be able to watch most episodes of the show, catching the other performances. She was up against stiff competition.
