Me - gives you advice on the resolution settings for civ 3 Also me - cannot for the life of me make this video not look like it was recorded on a potato
may be an OBS setting. I know it's got some options for recording/streaming at high resolutions, but, there's also like a compression thing as well to adjust. I'd suggest aiming for 720 for now, at least as a test, then you can adjust after. Alternatively, if it's actually recording at such a high resolution, but still posting poorly, it could be something being wierd with youtube's upload settings.
Despotism Advisor :D Not too far from the truth. Still you are a man of culture I see by your memes. Also I had thought this vid would also include talking about map settings and their pluses and minuses, maybe make that vid too?
Good sir, followed your advise on Keepres=1. It now uses even less screenspace then before somehow Edit: the main menu and city screen are smaller but the game itself is fullscreen now. I dont know, it doesnt exactly suits me
Hey suede I was wondering if there is a way to slow down the tech for everybody as on the larger maps very frequently the fighting does not occur until later in the game and almost always goes to the industrial era and early modern. As personally I would like to be in the mediaeval period longer utilise all the different bonuses and special units it provides thank you for being the go to man on civ 👍
You mean using the editor? Just increase tech costs. Without using the editor? I guess turn up aggression. The AI tech slow when they fight each other more.
@@suedeciviii7142 Just so I understand you probably it's the researching advances =5 that I need to change? If I want to go down the file change route?
A LOT of great information here and I really appreciate the video. But I have to say that some of what you said is unclear. You go back and forth between turn off or turn on and, because you selecting it on is turning something off, it becomes confusing at times. *Suggest (only for videos like this) writing and sticking to a clear script to maximize the effectiveness of your video.
Love this game since my childhood, and still playing it on my own settings, but i tried your setting "keepres=1" and my game wont start at all, even tho i have it on steam just like you. Do u know any reason why ? Love your videos btw :)
Ok, so I got it to work, by switching my laptop's resolution from 1920x1080 to 1600x900. It's an old game so this is the best working solution for my laptop right now. There may be ways to adjust other settings related to menu size as well, but I haven't experimented yet. Just Keepres=1, and change your computer's resolution. and absolutely put PlayIntro to 0. That video is going to screw with the startup.
I know this is an older video Suede, but I hope you see my question. Where is the mod for the world map grid? I cannot find it, and as I play online with my brother, that is the mod which appeals to me more.
forums.civfanatics.com/threads/communicate-your-teams-locations-better-with-9x5-mini-map-grid.112716/ let me know if you're having trouble installing, the file path is slightly different on steam
I passed this up a while back, since some of these choices are aesthetic. I prefer Wonder Initiation Popup and think I'm more likely to notice about wonders than checking in that other screen, but that seems minor and could be entirely personal. But you are wrong on "ask for build orders after unit construction" as useless in single player. There exist two classes of uses, one makes for a cheat on the HoF rules, while the other is not. 1. Your unit build or building completes. Then you press right arrow until to any city set to wealth. Since commerce gets calculated before shields, then change from wealth to a unit build or building and you get both the effect of wealth and the shields towards your unit (or building). One could also swap cities from not on wealth from high commerce to high shield tiles. This is NOT legal for the HoF, and I think XOTM competitions. The next technique though is legal. 2. You have units set to build less advanced units which require resources to upgrade. Let's suppose them horsemen, since you didn't have saltpeter or iron on your road network or traded for. But, you have Chivalry or Military Tradition (and aren't The Mongols or India). Then you road up the iron or saltpeter source or trade for iron or saltpeter. Also, you are not going to a learn a technology on the interturn. Then when the horseman unit build completes, with 'ask for build orders after unit construction' checked, you zoom to the city. Then you right click on the unit in the barracks and upgrade it to a knight or horseman. Then you've made a knight for the cost of 30 shields and 120 gold (or 60 gold) or a cavalry for 30 shields and 150 gold (or 75 gold). *Additionally the knight or cavlary unit is ready to move on that turn*. You do NOT have to wait a turn upon having upgraded the unit similar to how upgrades more commonly work for players. Your knight or cavalry stands ready to move to the front a turn sooner. But, when it's not just one knight or cavalry, but dozens of them, that means that your army of knights or cavalry can conquer sooner or stand in better position to win. I've also used that same upgrading idea with spearmen to pikeman and musketman. Theoretically, tanks could get built instead of modern armor also in say 50 shield cities, but zooming to the city and then upgrading ends up quicker turn wise. Also, one can have units fortified in a city, and then zoom to the city to upgrade say archers to berserks. Then those berserks can load onto boats a turn sooner, and I've done this before also.
Need help, when I add the Keepres=1 line to the conquest.ini file, my game is in 4/3 and only takes up a fraction of my screen, leaving huge horizontal and vertical black bars
Keepres doesn't make the game my monitor resolution, it just keeps the monitor resolution and the game stays it's smaller resolution on my screen, leaving the majority of the screen blank.
When you start a new game, and choose sid difficulty, the game saves that preference. So when you reboot civ, and start another new game, the game will default to Sid difficulty. Same with map size, number of AI opponents, rules, etc. This data is saved in the conquest.ini file. Those settings are the ones you're talking about, and it's not useful to edit them.

Still 480p here. Nothing obvious that I can see that would be holding the video quality processing back.

Are all the in-game preferences also stored in conquest.ini or the save file? Is there and easy way to transfer settings?

As I do always play on emperor and the AI tech so quickly that you almost skip the era entirely

Is there a link you can post for the pop heads mod? Or explain how to load it up? New to making adjustments to the game in program files.

My version on steam doesn't even have the "Keepres=1" line. I tried adding it manually and I'm right where you are. Won't start.

Try adding these lines
VideoMode=1024
Or 1152, 1280, 1600, 1792
If none of those work, you'll have to change your computers resolution.

I didn't get to watch it before the upload. What changed?
Installed game after a long time, first thing I noticed is I move last unit and turn is gone, hell no!
Hey there, Suede. Just a quick question.. I cannot find the conquest.ini on my folder. why is this?
I will not physically say ".ini". It will just be called "conquests". Are you in the right folder?
yo quick question. At what point of corruption is it better to just ICS with farms?
The cap on corruption is 90%, minus 10% per courthouse/police station. If you're over the cap, generally then.
