Great grip overview - in your video on trigger control , it would be be cool to show how you can use your red dot in dry fire to isolate what happens to your POA when you break the trigger - I try to identify how much trigger finger , where to place it on the trigger face and how to modify my grip to ensure that the dot doesn’t jump on the break - and of course it’s slightly different for every pistol specifically striker fired ones Maybe a video on your strong hand / weak hand grip and how you pass the gun to the weak hand quickly and safely in competition ? I know that I under train weak hand shooting and the various mechanics associated and have to force myself to do it , at longer distances my groupings can be less than impressive lol !
I appreciate all of your videos, especially this series! I am 74 in a few months and never built back my strength from cancer treatments years ago, but will work on what I need to be a better shooter! My hobby is reloading & shooting so I need to get more consistent in my shooting! Thank you! George
Definatly one of the best explain videos of pistol grip...takes 1000's of rds to even get a handle on the correct grip let alone being good at pistol shooting...everyone should get a 22lr pistol in my opinion to get reps down cheap
I do really agree of what he said about recoil management which I applied even my gun is upside down shooting at the target by holding it with my two fingers in LITO VALLES PSD.
I really needed to see this video. And, I don't think that you can repeat this video too many times, just present it differently each time. This is one that I WILL watch over and over
Best grip video on UA-cam everyone always tells you what a good grip does and looks like but does not tell you what it feels like and how to get there!
I just started learning how to shoot. This has been by far one of the best and logical explanations of what I have been doing wrong...now I will get it right. Thank you soooo much!!!
EXCELLENT⭐ EXCELLENT ⭐ EXCELLENT ⭐ I've watched 15 videos anf this was the best instruction on grip, recoil, and stance. Im a 5'3",112#, female, southpaw. I recently went thru firearms training at a Police Academy and was expected to perform flawlessly with absolutely no instruction. I was only told to stand talk and not lean forward. The muzzle was bouncing up and down and to the lower left. It took forever to self analyze and reset. Plus I was freshly learning to aim with a red dot. I was set up to fail. Your video is gold!!
You have no idea how much I needed to see this… been fighting with grip inconsistency for a long time now. Finding ones best grip is one thing… consistently grabbing that best grip on each draw, at speed and after reloads or transitions is yet another challenge… then doing all of that consistently while having to put most of your focus on how to efficiently execute a stage… often the grip falls apart as the brain allocates so much focus on so many other things. I guess the M’s and GM’s have reached a point where the grip is so soaked into their muscle memory that they no longer need to allocate much mental focus on it. This is a very humbling sport indeed! 🙏🏼
Last night, I was working on my stance, aim and grip. I noticed how my quads were engaged and wondered if I was standing wrong. I watch this video and feel much better about my stance grip. Trigger finger placement is what I need to work on also. Can't wait to get to the range to apply what was taught in this video. This video really helped me shoot great today. Tight shot groups from 6 yards with a Glock G20, FNX .45, HK P30 LS, Ruger American Competition 9mm, and Sar 9x. Great instructions and thank you very much.
Got a chance to test some of these instructions at the range today and I made great strides compared to how I was applying pressure to the pistol before. Thank you for not only this video but your other in-depth videos on grip.
Great stuff. No minced words. I can tell you have thought through the entire process - from experience - and teach from the heart. I have listened several times and pick up little tweaks to my personal style.
This had to be the Best exhibition of shooting stance, control and psychics in shooting a pistol! Best on You Tube for beginners and shooters who think they know what their doing!
The best grip video by far. Some help on strong hand thumb hitting/riding the slide lock lever. I notice one view your strong hand thumb waspulled back a bit. Great content and very credible.
WOW! Lots to think about. Not just hold the gun tight in your hand. This was excellent. Like everything, it's gonna take time to get good at it. I'd be interested in sight picture with and without a red dot. Thanks for your tims.
I feel like this is even more in depth than the older video I watched from you about recoil management. Thank you. I better return to the range before I forget everything I just learned.
Absolutely the best video in regards to recoil management and perhaps trigger pull I have ever seen on the web. It answers so many questions and provides all the tips anyone could possibly digest and turn them into great positive results!
Thank you! As a relatively new shooter, I have watched a lot of instructional videos. This instruction has been by far the best wrt improving my accuracy and recoil management.
Firm grip with firing hand(not too firm), 100% crushing the frame with support hand. That should be it. Not messing with your elbows or anything else. If your muzzle is dipping, you’re pushing the gun down, if it’s bouncing, you’re gripping too hard with your firing hand. BOOM! That’s it. Use slowmo footage to take of yourself, this helps a bit.
Thanks for the awesome education. It's like a pistol shooting class you can do and practicr at home, and you can play it over and over again so you don't miss a thing. Subscribed!
David, I mention to you before that you and 1 or 2 others convinced me to get my first RDS, Holsun 507C. I've sent several 100s of rounds down range and twice as much dry firing, my presentation etc. Let's just say I feel I'm about 50-75% better. The one problem I have is .....trigger control consistently. If I could get that one muscle memory in my head, I would be much more confident in my monthly IDPSA at my locale range, ran my the resident trainer/instructor and good friend. In each one I've came last in each one, but Scott says "this isn't meant to be a competition". He calls it "sharpening your skills". Last month we were late starting because no one had showed up. He asked me if I minded just he and I did the "match". I said, "sure, I know I'll be second.....the highest I had ever been". He laughed. Someone should up so I still finished my highest....3rd!! lol
Great video, live up to the channel name for sure. Great teaching and great presentation of the topics! I appreciate this series as I’m getting into uspsa and practical pistol and want to hone the basics
Great demonstration on managing recoil and proper grip on pistol shooting as well as shock absorbing stance, knees bent a bit. Something to take for consideration, very effective. I’ve been a rookie shooter for more than a year now since covid. I keep picking all the best techniques in youtube. This video is one of them. Thanks👍
Thanks a ton for this video. I've been struggling with a low and left issue for ages and this video made me realize my hand positions were off by just a bit on my CZ75. Just got back from my first range trip with the new grip and my issues are pretty much completely gone, I'm shooting right where I'm aiming and my groups were quite decent too. It even made a pair of aftermarket flat grips, which I'd tried previously but hadn't gotten along with, suddenly start making sense as well!
This is the best video ive seen on proper grip technique. Very detailed explanation and demonstration. You should have millions of subs, ridiculously underrated channel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Great tips man! When I learned to shoot not long ago the instructor didn't say anything about elbows. I saw a video about bowing then out a few month ago and it helped me shoot better no joke! I had great accuracy but shooting fast was a challenge until I changed my stance with the elbows and what you spoke about in this video. I think a lot of people will benefit from these tips. I just got Into RDS and would love to see a video on how to shoot them efficiently apposed to irons.
First bro, i have been watching you from the beginning as i really got into gun works. I must say you have really improved and it is very impressive. Second, you produce some of the most helpful videos out there. Easy to follow and remember and we are about the same size so they are very helpful for me. I mean i'm a bit stronger, bigger and sexier, but you are a much better shot. So we are even. God speed bro and i hope you do well in the future.
Check out Milspec_Mojo's channel. The collaboration that he did with Garand Thumb was a great video on controlling recoil and rate of fire. Also he demonstrates his techniques with a gun without a compensator. To me that is far more useful since none of my carry guns are compensated.
1. Novice errors after given proper instructions. 2. Proper goals and realistic expectations to prevent discouragement. I've noticed that my right hand tang grip loosens up a bit when I wrap my right hand fingers around the grip. Keeps happening. Don't know how to prevent it. G17. I'll watch this video again. I'm glad you mentioned the technical data is mostly at patreon. Had no idea.
Thanks for your post. Implemented some of your recommendations yesterday at my periodic firearms carry license refresher qualification. Blew the centre from the target 🎯 Noticeably better control and accuracy! Keep up the good work!
First time viewing this excellent, excellent video on grip and stance!! My Security Team will be is about to get exposure to it as this is a huge problem with the vast majority of the team. I can’t say it enough…we’ll made instructional video, looking forward to seeing the balance of the series.
You're exactly correct to say that this video is very helpful for beginners. To know how to manage the recoil, is one of the very essential to know for every shooter. To prove it right, with humility I'm inviting you to visit LITO VALLES PSD, where I performed some shooting drills like: Shooting a toothpick with my .45 cal. pistol holding it with my two fingers as well as shooting targets at a distance of 20-35 yards by holding the upside down gun with my two fingers only. It's bec. I know how to manage the recoil of my gun. That's why I absolutely agree with you this video is so helpful to both shooters in any level.
I have no idea how you only have 35k subscribers. Your reviews are honest and relevant, but more importantly your instructional videos are absolutely amazing. Sitting in quarantine, I’ve learned so much from you, from proper grip to how to better shoot those gen5 Glocks I’ve been contemplating on selling since I couldn’t shoot anything but left of the mark. Keep it up!!
Very informative video. I can now shoot my Glock 18 on full auto without feeling much recoil lol. All jokes aside this is a very informative video. I highly recommend every shooter watch this. New shooters can start with a solid foundation as they learn how to effectively manage recoil and experience shooters can see if they need to improve any aspects of their grip.
A) Well done, you covered a lot of ground, but your explanations were one of the best ones available. B) Can you cover stage analysis, pre-shoot what sequence you would select to attack targets in any given stage, and what to look for.
Good shit man. Not too many folks on here are going in depth into some pretty important basics. I would like to see a video on how you manage aiming target to target without swinging past and having to backtrack a little. Do you personally twist your torso or rotate your hips or a third option?

I was falling for the thumb contours. And elbows. Wow, that feels much more solid when the slide drops. Thanks.
What videos would you like to see in future installments of the series? Let me know in the comments!

As someone that is only 5'7" but giant hands (thumb tip to pinky tip 9" spread) this was very helpful.
I like the standard you lay out at the start.
Gonna use that as a quick start drill tomorrow.
Thank you very much. The best video I have seen on grip and stance. I can try this all as soon as the range opens up again.
I shared this video with my son who is a new shooter!👍🏻
These are exactly the sorts of videos. I have always been hoping you would make! Thank you!!
A lot of this never occurred to me. Thank you
As a first gun owner (Canik TP9 Elite SF) this video was very helpful. Thanks for all the info. Subbed.
The upward support hand index finger slide forward control point is an excellent technique
This is the single most concise and best video on grip that I’ve seen.
Lift the sights up to your eye. Guilty as charged: sinking my head down behind the sights! This is so helpful,

I’ve been watching a ton of pistol videos, and the way you detail how a pistol should be feeling in your hand has helped the most. Amazing content.
Great video! Some basic training and dry fire drills you find helpful particularly during the ammo pandemic
I wholeheartedly agree
Great job 👏 Thank you
