This is an excellent video. USPSA needs to be showing this.
I just signed up for my first USPSA match and the match director sent this out to me to watch before the match.
@@eargesplitten9876 I have actually added this to my reply email when people sign up for our monthly introduction to USPSA match. It's quite good.
My match director uses this video
One thing to keep in mind for new shooters: no one cares how slow you go, as long as you are safe. Be slow and careful during make ready. Be slower and careful during unload and show clear. Don't get ahead of the range officer during unload and show clear -- there is no prize for fastest unload and show clear. Take your time. Be careful. Have fun.
If you do get disqualified, be a good sport and accept it gracefully. It happens, even to very good, safe shooters.
thank you
Hearing David say "Big Dad Energy" makes my week.
At first I read this as “makes me weak” lmao
Many thanks David!!! The timing of this video could not have been any better! I have never shot US PSA but I’ve been kicking around the idea with my son and some buds.
At 56 with a wrecked spine, two prosthetic knees and the COVID 30.
I’m running that DDE (Diminished Dad Energy) Just may be my last chance at competitive shooting that doesn’t require a bench rest and a chair!
I’ll be Rockin the Geezer Division in no time!!
As always, great video!!
I always learn something new-
Being condemned to live out my days in a rabidly anti-2a state, I’m somewhat on my own - I have to go that extra mile to get good information on anything firearms related. Your videos are an invaluable resource. My Confidence in your content is very high and is really appreciated!!
Thanks again and cheers! /
Rock on with your DDE!
I started 3 years ago at 48. I'm 51 now and have arthritis in my neck and spine and scoliosis. I've got myself up to C Class and super close to B Class now. I used all of his videos to get started. My 11 year old started with steel challenge matches. He's 13 now and we do them together. He loves it!
Saving these videos to my training folder. They're gold! After experiencing my first couple of matches this year, I would absolutely agree, these contain SO much good info. I'm going to watch them repeatedly to make sure it all sinks in.
JUST came back from my first practical shooting competition. Amazing experience!
Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to put this together.
This is amazing timing and all the information I have been looking for!
Incredibly helpful. Thank you for taking the time for make this video.
First class ! Thank you for your continued contribution to the sport we all benefit from. 👊
i was hoping you would make a video like this! i’ve been trying to do some research before really giving my first match a go, now i’m excited as hell!
Finally, the perfect video for the brand new shooter. I've been looking for this forever. Great job!
Really great video. I just took an introduction class for USPSA last week. Watching this video helped clarify some things for me and also showed what to expect. I’ll be watching this again I’m sure to refresh myself.
Really appreciate your channel. You always have great content here thanks.
This was great and got me looking into nearby clubs to get started, something I've always said I wanted to get into. Can wait for part 2. I think I'll check it out 3rd Sunday this month
Bookmarked. The club should just send this to new shooters. Perfect.
Excellent descriptions, explanations and presentation for someone interested in learning about local shooting competitions. I learned a lot. Well done. Thank you.
This is what I’ve been looking for. Something for the 100% newbie that helps me figure out where to start. Thanks for this! I would love more stuff like this to help build up my confidence and comfort to get started.
Thank you, so much, for making this. I've been considering dipping my toes into the competitive shooting pool for a while now, but am more than a bit nervous about showing up and being THAT NOOB, who does everything wrong. It's good to have a reference like this to help keep me from F'ing up too badly.
Fantastic job with this! USPSA should definitely share this on their social media pages
What a coincidence, I wanted to get into competition shooting yesterday and had a hard time getting clarity on the differences, rules, procedures and then you uploaded your video Thank you!
Do it man! USPSA and IDPA are awesome. I hope you have fun!
@@jamesmanning8795 definitely will, thank you!
I really enjoyed the video. I have done 3 competitions. On the first one I dq’d myself. The last 2 I completed. I will rewatch this before every match I run. This video has a ton of information. All of it is super helpful. I have subscribed to your channel. Keep making content please!
Excellent breakdown. I studied a handfull of videos about 5 years ago, but never got into USPSA. Your info is nice & lean.
Great video. My wife and I started competitive shooting this summer. It's intimidating to get into but I believe universally most folks will find a very welcoming, enthusiastic and knowledible regiment of shooters. Watching this video will help new shooters with confidence of exactly what to expect prior to day one. And if there is any concern beyond this video, I would encourage them to go to a match as a spectator. They will see that not everybody is an amazing marksman. But everybody IS having a great time. Thank you again David. Great job.
Very helpful video series! Thank you! Looking forward to my 1st match.
Excellent video! Anyone new to USPSA will certainly benefit from this watching this.
From a new competition shooter, thank you very much for this video.
I will be sharing this with lots of other people. Good job
Thinking about shooting my 1st match next month and this was a very informative video.
We had a guy that got really squirrely about his rifle that jammed during a multigun match and ended up doing a 180 with it trying to unjamm it.
I felt bad for the guy after he was sent home for the day, but safety is a very big deal!
Idk, i prefer the 7 year old vids with the echo... 😂
Thanks for putting out this great content, I'm getting closer to doing my first competition!
I needed this. Thanks a lot!
Wow, tons of really good info!❤
Appreciate the videos! With this, I've decided to at least spectate my first match so this was helpful in trying to warm up to it!
I’m so glad you made this video. Thank you! Please make a video for IDPA!!!
Outstanding vid David !!!
as past range officer for 4 world IPSC championships and competing for over 20 years your opening introduction, you speak the truth my friend. I really enjoyed the narrative.
Thanks for the information. I'm considering competition and this clarified something for me.
just registered for my first match today. Super excited.
This is super helpful; thank you for putting this info together!
Thanks for this video. I was intimated because I dont have a clue of the process didnt want to get in trouble my first time. Excellent video
Thank you! Got a bunch of guns, gonna sign up for my first match 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you for this -- perfect overview for beginners
I’m finally going to get back into competitive shooting again after my first match way back last summer. I’m on the waitlist for my second ever match taking place this Sunday. I was unaware, but I guess I need to remove the magwell from my Canik Mete SFX for carry optics huh? Thanks for all of the solid advice, these are nice refresher videos. Great content as always, much love from Texas.
Shot my first match, SC local. This video helped me to be confident and prepared. No jitters on the line and I actually placed first in Limited in one of the stages🎉. Thank you so much!
that's an amazing result man - congrats! That's not usually what happens at your first match!
Most of the field was Carry Optics and I was one of only three shooting Limited. I had practiced Smoke and Hope at home with paper targets, so I just burned it down as fast as I could😁
@@WestPat23are those the name of paper target patterns?
And did you practice at home with laser ammo, or you have a range at home?
Video was great! Only part I took issue with is reccomending the minimal ear pro (in ear squishies). Yes they are cheap and can mitigate a lot of the force, but having active ear pro that seals to your head is much better for the longevity of your hearing. Spend the dosh on the ear pro, your grandkids will thank you for it.
Awesome video I'm sharing this on my club's FB group we get alot if new people
Bro this video is awesome. Where were you a 3 years ago.
Thanks for you time.
Excellent video. I just shot my first uspsa steel challenge match this past Sunday.
This was crazy helpful. Thank you so much.
Good info, thanks. I'm going to have to check it out.
Great video really appreciate the tips.
Great information. Thank you for sharing.
Man i wish this was out 2 months ago. Solid stuff
Excellent video. I appreciate the information.
I used to shoot IDPA but there are not very common where I am and USPSA seems more common so that’s what I’ll be doing :)
This video needed to be out years ago. I will be sharing it with new shooters for sure. Thank you!
Sounds like alot of fun and challenging
Big help! Thanks bro!
This needs to be on the front page of the USPSA website! Fantastic job!
This was awesome. Thank you.
This was a dope video. New club opened up near me and they have a USPSA level 1 match 2/12/24. For 25 dollars entry I figured I might as well try but I doubt it will go well lol
Im just glad you addressed the consistent choice of tiny shorts and tube socks. At least you arent unaware.
This is coming from a Dad with equally poor taste in clothes
Just found your channel a month ago, and have sub'd and binged on probably every video youve put out
That means you watched the old terrible ones. I am so sorry.
Also USPSA had gotten awful with everyone wearing jerseys - so I intentionally don’t and wear the opposite trying to make it more approachable and less bass fisherman-y
Excellent info …. Thanks 🙏🏼
Outstanding very great information thanks
Thanks for this, learned a lot.
Thank you. Great video.
Great information. Thank you.
Hahaha I gotta say David, that really is the BDE out fit... Shorts and long socks.
Excellent overview
Thank you for sharing!
my GAWD, what a GREAT video, it should be mandatory prior to shooting a first match!
Appreciate this video!
Thank you for the post
Thank u for this video
Thanks for the info!
Thank you. Tomorrow is my very first Match
Thank you!
Great video, thanks
Just ordered my g34. Planning on trying out a competition with my g17 soon though. Nervous as hell but excited
Interning video I am surprised you did throw in the bull armory extreme racer for comparison. Something you didn’t mention is higher end gun makers usually give better support.
Should be linked to in practiscore match registrations
Great video! Wish I would have had this video when I started shooting earlier this years.
Btw with winter right around the corner, do you have any tips that pertain to winter leagues outdoors? Staying warm or moving around the frozen ground with a loaded weapon. Thanks for the great videos your awesome!
This is amazing! I wish something like this existed before I started.
And damn the long make ready guy! The guy that takes 5 minutes to make ready just to shoot a bunch of Charlie’s and no shoots
Cool video thanks.
Thanks!
Very educational. Excellent info for a beginner. Well done, thank you! You shoot open and carry optics from what I’ve seen. You are an A/master level shooter. Your thoughts on a new shooter shooting in more than one division?
Of the divisions I listed - I'd try them for flavor. Then pick one and begin to learn more about the game.
I wouldn't suggest leading off with Open unless you have tons of disposable income and can afford someone to make you 38 SC ammo. It's by far the most punishing of a weak reloading game - if you're making your own ammo you NEED solid process to make the things be reliable.
Carry Optics is a great way to learn a lot about the game.
Also - I just got my M card in Open now - so pretty pumped to be making progress there - but a long way from being a threat in M Class.
Shooting my 1st match tonight can’t wait
Where ya get that red shadow system trainer
With the exveption of divisions and some of the scoring rules, most of this applies to IDPA too.
I've been watching your channel for some time, and was very happy for your recent victory at the Texas Open! Do you teach any USPSA classes, or are you aware of any, in Texas? I've been shooting IPSC at novice level, and would really love to get some hands-on training if possible. Thanks!
Hey David, I have been binge watching your videos and loving them. I recently started competing in a local range weekly competition and can say with confidence your videos are helping me rapidly climb through the divisions taking first in division nearly weekly. I’m considering competing uspsa next year, do you have any advice for dealing with ammo costs? Reloading just doesn’t seem to make economic sense in 2022 with the cost of primers at 10 cents each of you can find them. Thanks again
Supervel in bulk seems pretty reasonable
@@TheHumbleMarksman I will check them out thanks! Have you had any experience shooting it?
Hey David great video on USPSA. I'm interested in getting into competitive shooting. This video is geared towards USPSA matches, I'm wondering if you can or have any knowledge to elaborate on IDPA matches? Just a side note, I truly enjoy your videos and enjoy the knowledge you share. Thanks...
Similar application - different range commands
Fun fact… David permits 5 minute “Make Readys” … your welcome folks! 😎
NO - false!
@@TheHumbleMarksman that comment was payback for including Gentleman’s foot fault at 14:38 😂
@@michaelmoreno4968 😅🤣🤣
FINALLY, someone made a new competition shooter video that new people can actually understand. Thank you. Any interest in doing a short video just explaining what practical competition shooting is that's targeted towards people that know nothing about firearms? Other videos have tried, but they all end up being pure action with death metal playing and explain the game to people that already know the game, instead of explaining things to people that know nothing.
Possibly - let me think about it
One of the best competition options for novice shooters is Steel Challenge. You can start them with .22 pistols or rifles, you don't have to start from a holster, little movement, and you can use a red dot.
i like this
WOW, I am begginer shooter. I hope to be at that level and participate,,,in the time being ....I suck, but I am determined to be better
holy guacamole thats some info! 1 of these days i would like to do my 1st match, just to test myself and skill, doing skill by yourself at a range gets boring and lonely, haha
I've watched about a dozen of these your first match procedures videos, everything has been very clear, I thoroughly understand no ammo in the safe area. What no one has ever explained is when and where do you load your magazines? At what point may you place loaded magazines in your magazine holders on your belt?
Thanks in advance if you can answer this.
I like Steel Challenge more than USPSA. The matches are way more laid back and less crowded, and there's no major power factor, so my 9 x 19 Limited piece works awesome for it. If only I could actually hit the targets lol I do okay on the stages with big, close targets like "Smoke and Hope".
Nils is a freak of nature tho..
Thank you so much for doing this video. This is my first year with shooting at any match. I shoot USPSA mostly with Reloading from the Hot Pot. This is very helpful. My problem is I’m always smashing the trigger and since I’m right handed shooting left hand is very difficult. Do you have any suggestions besides practice. Or a video to help me and other with the same problems❓
