A vulnerable moment, 2:27 he actually slips and says "i'm drunk...I"m walking to the club!". I remember him saying that it wasn't until he admitted he had a problem drinking that he became truly and authentically honest. and I am only mentioning this because I admire him, but i can see this early version of him and see that fire and that conflict with himself that created such amazing poetry. RIP sir.
My sister and I would wait up until 12:30 am to watch him on Letterman. We were in high school. It made our day whenever he was on. Then to my delight, I see him on Curb years later. Love you, Richard. Did you know how talented you were? ❤❤❤
Richard was amazing ❤. He did finally meet a wonderful woman, Joyce who was lucky enough to have him. I just wish he was still around. I'm going to really miss him. Thanks for those memories ❤❤❤❤❤.
Bless the uploader for this. I saw this special on cable when I was barely in my teens, and I laughed so hard I thought I would lose consciousness. Lewis’ stage persona is like the happy cousin of a gran mal seizure.
I can remember watching him a lot in the 80's and on into the 90's. He was so frenetic when he was younger. I always thought of him as kind of a combination of Woody Allen & Rodney Dangerfield. R.I.P.
One of my life's dreams was to someday sit down and talk with you/share life stories. Holy hell, do I relate to you, Richard . See you on the other side, perhaps. Is the anxiety still there in the afterlife? I'm only kidding. God bless you, Richard. You lived an important meaning life that has brought great relief to many through your message in your open heart humor. Never met you, but can say that I love you, and grateful for you having the willingness to pick up a microphone and give standup a whirl.
Richard Lewis was never the funniest guy when he was young, but he persevered and when in later life on Curb Your Enthusiasm funniest man on the planet. I have been weightlifting since I was fourteen, never the strongest, now I am 71 have won six masters world championships, the tortoise can win just takes patience.
This is the most cocaine induced stand up I've ever seen haha. No wonder he doesn't have any hair on the top anymore, he spends the entire show ripping it out.
Good lord, Richard is on fire here. The jokes are very funny and rapid-fire, a big laugh every few seconds. I think this is the funniest I've ever seen him.
To many greats gone in this video, Rip Richard Lewis youll be cracking jokes with Robyn and Harold now with Robyn saying things like "what took you so long, we've been up here for ten years boring the sh*t out of each other, we need some one with some new material, thank god you turned up", with god in the front row going "WHOO, YEAH, I've been waiting for Richard to turn up at the gate since 1971, I 've been hearing great things about that open-mic at Greenwich Village you did ".
Frantic brain, I bet he writes a million ideas and freestyles all different pieces together once he’s on stage. I also bet he liked to do new material as often as possible so he was always kept those good nerves to not get comfortable.
17:00-17:12 is a brilliant 12 seconds of probably ad lib! Bits with consciousness stream comedy interwoven is something very few people can pull off, and Richard is a master!
when Richard went in/on with this character? It was record- setting, had never before been done like Richard. Remembering back it was stunning - i.e. Richard hitting the proverbial NERVE. Me I'd just STARTED therapy (local grad school) in Feb of 1983 -- so I never forgot this era in Richard Lewis' comedy life/career. And he knew he'd hit on something big - something electric. I was all in back in 83 - still am.
Quinn Dale and Jordan Peterson are cut from a similar mold of break through comics that color way outside the lines of modern convention and are gathering a huge fan base!
@@simplenough Not knowing who Jessica Kirson was is hardly evidence of a lack of knowledge of modern comedians. If anything, the reverse could be said to be true.
RIP RL, if u can't see the brilliant comedy in this routine I'm not gonna call u stupid, but I will say I feel sorry for u Topher. The main reason why RL is so good is bc he had the very rare innate ability to pull the audience in on the jokes about himself and his insane outlook on life. He was a neurotic beautiful mess of a human, and his comedy was a peek into the mind of a man who saw his own life and experiences as a good reason to be self-deprecating and allow us to laugh at all the absurdity.
""I got to learn how to breathe."" The genius to open the show like he was being born. Thank you "MagTapeHead." For using UA-cam to make people happy.... and a little sad. And thanks to LD for putting Richard Lewis where he needed to be. The story ark and timing is a wonderful tribute. Like Curb was made to showcase how cool lifelong friendships can be. A big "bugle" to all of you! Picture of the Statue of Liberty blowing a huge bugle call from the top of the Empire State Building to salute the cast and crew of Curb Your Enthusiasm! The happiness will live longer than all of us. Love is gonna win if you want it to! ✌️&❤ -dugair PDXtc
May his memory be a blessing.
Thanks for the laughs Richard, you were hilarious and you'll never be forgotten.
Rest in peace Richard your time and your comedy will be missed
RIP to one funny neurotic guy. Thanks for the laughs and the memories.
Thanks for the side splitting laughs Richard, hope you're bringing down the house in Heaven with Belzer and Robin Williams
And Garry Shandling.
And Stalin.

There is no way that you love this video! I can't quote one joke. Its a Jewish kids one man act and done badly. You are A human correct?
Same!
I can remember watching him a lot in the 80's and on into the 90's. He was so frenetic when he was younger. I always thought of him as kind of a combination of Woody Allen & Rodney Dangerfield. R.I.P.
I think he's got shades of Bobcat Goldthwait too.
Same here. I was 12. Blew me away.
The Jewish satalite dish, 3rd class mail, the stick figure card from the dry cleaner, Aunt Faye can't move her knuckles. RL was one of a kind. Damn. 😢

The greatest comedy special of all-time, as said by Artie Lange. I agree.
I’m so glad you had LD as a best friend.
King of the mandarin collar!
I saw Richard in Boston in 2006. Great timing, setup, and delivery. He hadn't lost a step and was even wittier than before. Awesome comic.
I was upset to hear that he died. Thank you for this video
Richard you were an original, no one was ever funnier. You will be greatly missed,..... RIP.
watching richard lewis calms my anxiety . i loved his specials.
Richard killing what else is new.
Simply the best ! RIP Richard
RIP Richard
Pretty..... pretty......pretty good
@BLOODMAGE MUSIC It doesn't, it's been in every season a few times since season 1
@BLOODMAGIC_RECORDSit came from LD lying to his parents about his depression. 😂
I’m amazed that the guy who worked the spotlight was able to keep it on him during the act.
I love this set. As a Texan, I often reference his joke, “what a feeling, being near El Paso.”

Nice! I've always loved him too.
The King of Neurotic Comedy
This guy is awesome.
Just watching him is exhausting.
You can tell by his body language (coming to stage) that Richard's about
to slay.
Very good Richie!
I love this one...
Any chance you have the 1990 special? Was called I'm doomed
He's too fast! I had to put this on 0.75 speed!
Some people are allergic to toast 🤣
Quinn Dale and Jordan Peterson are cut from a similar mold of break through comics that color way outside the lines of modern convention and are gathering a huge fan base!
Shades of Mr Konigsberg!
Take a drink every time he goes to his hair
Classic
He may be the funniest comedian I've ever seen.
He's got the funniest hands in the business.
❤❤❤
this standup is as funny as I remember it.. except for some period references, it's mostly timeless humor
Look at all those beautiful white people!😊
Just so Richard knows I'm trying to relate:
My first professional job (advertising) was in the
Chrysler Building. (4:00).
The vision of watching Larry Holmes fighting Norman Fell, followed by "The Three Stooges Relax" makes me with for life in this alternate universe!
😎
A combination of Charlton Heston and Rula Lenska😂
Oh my goodness Robin Williams is funny here, shortly following @ 36:50
RIP...also no audio on any of these videos?
"The Road"
I had a yodel breakthrough
suddenly i’m giving a lecture at hunter college
"Low threshold for joy" at 38:20.
He's in pain now
No, he's not. He's fine.
My brain moves at the same speed as his, that's why I've struggled with downers my whole life, I can't take the noise

Seinfeld had to be inspired by Richard.
Oh, stop kvetching.
Total neurautic!

Kirson stole so much from him

Any side effects ? Well you might turn into a cigar !!!
He's basically doing Woody Allen with hair.
Wrong
Nah.
One of the.... most overrated.

Seriously.
Wrong richard lewis sorry
The worst comedy ever! How he's famous is beyond me.
Lmaooo topherr 😂😂 you guys his name is topher
That’s because you know nothing about comedy.
