This series is notoriously difficult to adapt, but I'd say Villeneuve made it as accessible as humanly possible for those who haven't read up.

Kinda hate how everyone trash talks the arena scene. Like just sit back and accept the amazing villain introduction they are presenting us with.

  • @paulhewes7333

He didnt "dump" Chani...he was to marry the princess, but only in name. He only loved and would be "with" Chani. But he had to marry the emperor's daughter to legitimize his ascendancy to the Emperor.

What Paul means by "We must be Harkonnens" means he has to be ruthless and terrifying. Which Paul becomes.

  • @ukuviispert9599

not to be rude or anything but do people just not watch the movie or something? Ive seen so many reactors think that Paul missed when his nukes hit the terrain instead of the spaceship, but like, they literally explained their plan in one of the earlier scenes?

  • @vascobroma8907

The nukes didn't miss. Paul aimed for the mountain to blow a hole through it so the worms (and the storm) could get through. The storm winds will render shields ineffective (I think this is what the movie is trying to depict with the flames coming off the emperor's ship), which is necessary when worms are around so they don't go into a frenzy and kill each other. This is why it was critical to time the battle with the storm. Paul also couldn't aim the nukes directly at the army because atomic attacks on humans is outlawed in this universe, and comes with severe penalties. The great houses would have responded by basically whipping the Fremen out with their own arsenals. In the book the emperor actually tries to charge Paul with illegal use of atomics, but Paul responds, almost humorously, that he merely targeted a "natural feature of the desert" because it was in his way and he was "in a hurry to get to you."

Lady Jessica was one of my favorite things about this movie. She went from a mother protecting her son to a fulll on cult leader all in 20 minutes of the movie and I was amazed at how Rebecca Ferguson was able to switch to a completely different character while still remaining as the same character. She’s a wonderful actress and she doesn’t get enough credit for her versatility.

“Is this a horror movie?” Well, Alia has hundreds of generations of memories and trauma inside her all while not yet having a personality of her own as well as no training or life experience to deal with that generational trauma…..Yea, it’s going to be “an issue”.

  • @MetastaticMaladies

I love this movie… BUT I wish they spent more time on Paul’s “a sleeper must awaken” part, because it’s so much cooler and impactful than the movie portrays it and can explain his change much better after he drinks the water of life. I also wish they had added the dialogue between Paul and Chani when he speaks to the Emperor. Overall Villeneuve did an amazing job, especially dealing with Paul’s sister and everything else. Can’t wait for the adaptation of Messiah

In the book Jessica tells Chani that concubines are the real wives and that the other wives will never know true love.

"Why is everything in black and white now?"

  • @cosmocoatl

Cody is a prime example of why Denis HAS to do Dune Messiah 😂 just like Herbert had to.

Alia, has been given the knowledge of all her ancestors in the womb. She will therefore be born with an adult mind. The danger for her is that one of her ancestors could possess her mind before she has her own mentality. That is why the Bene Gesserit are "afraid" for her.

Her literal unborn child is a reverend mother because of the water of life
