I definitely keep and use and enjoy discontinued fragrances that I love. Life is so fleeting, we have to enjoy the things we love and not avoid enjoying things just because of fear of what it will be like to be without those things. It’s like the old saying: “It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”
I would always keep discontinued parfums. Enjoy them till they're gone and with so many parfums you won't have a problem loving others just as much. Besides it will take a long time to actually finish a bottle
One thing that I've learned during my 12 years of perfume journey is that I simply never finish a bottle. That's why I don't care whether I'm able to repurchase or not and own a ton of discontinued perfumes. I've also given up on finding the perfect perfume collection as I think it's simply impossible - my taste seems to change all the time 😀 therefore I just wear what I want and don't worry about the future. Also, I definitely wear perfume for myself only, therefore it doesn't matter whether I'm home alone in my sweatpants or outside on a date, I always wear perfume 😀 I even have a few perfumes that I'm afraid to wear in public, namely my heavy hitters like Angel or Portrait of a Lady, so being alone at home is the perfect oppoturnity to enjoy them.
I just use my discontinued perfumes, and I don't make backups. Perfumes go bad. There are many other perfumes out there and new releases every year. I'm pretty sure that sooner or later I will find another perfume that I will like equally, or even more than the discontinued one.
When you are home just hanging out you know you are allowed to smell good for yourself. You don't have to go out to smell good. Treat yourself. I hope you think you are worth it. It's not waistful if you do it for your own happiness. I notice you dont even waist a drop or ever spray the perfumes to smell them when you show them to us. Please know you spent your money on them so enjoy them. YOU ARE WORTH IT!
Lauren you are 100% right...I love my perfumes and I spray myself every day with them, it doesn't matter if I'm going somewhere, or I'm at home doing laundry, cleaning or even going to cut the grass it doesn't matter, I always smell good. I can look like a "Witch"...haha...but I smell like an Angel! :)
@@mariolag9411 I feel you on a spiritual level girl! More women need to embrace this and know they are worth it. You don't need to "save your perfumes" for a special event. Everyday on this earth is special and it is also a very short life so treat yourself like gold ✨
When it comes to UA-cam content, I see just as many "declutter" videos as I do "amassing" videos. An object must be first gained (amassed) before it is either consumed or let go (decluttered.) If you enjoy a consumable by consuming it, then what about it is enjoyable to throw away? Maybe it is regret of the amassing? I think "minimal" means different things to different people. Nice review of the line! It is peculiar how sometimes we associate scents with "going out," but over time, they can start to feel "everyday." Black Opium became that for me, as well!
7:25 By that same logic you would have decluttered your Miss Dior 2017 long ago, no waxed lyrical about how wonderful it is and then run out and buy back-up bottles upon learning that your favourite fragrance (2017 formulation) would be discontinued Letting go of something you genuinely love and enjoy simply because you cannot get it again once it is gone (and given how many perfume bottles you have it would likely take YEARS for you to finish any single one full sized fragrance), makes about as much sense as learning that someone you love has suddenly been diagnosed with a terminal illness... and deciding to distance yourself or cut them out of your life entirely (rather than savour and enjoy every precious remaining moment) because there is suddenly now an expiration date for your relationship... And you know, once they are gone, they are gone...
@Carine C Objectively speaking, same principles should apply to all (nontoxic, non-harmful) things/entities you love and enjoy in life, inanimate or living. Choosing to cut something/someone out of your life or push it/them away not because you are being forced to but out of fear that there is no long term security of being able to access it/them long-term (instead of just enjoying the present and savouring what time remains) is a very interesting decision/philosophy to operate by. 7:30 as you can hear, the owner of this channel was the one who brought up a "non-object" analogy of a doomed relationship to illustrate her stance on getting rid of discontinued perfumes that she loves and describes as "incredible". My response was merely to continue along the same vein. Since she works / has worked as a palliative care nurse, this analogy should have particular relevance.
it would have made sense if she didn't already have the perfume. Let's say a perfume you don't have is discontinued, then I would understand not buying it to test it, but if you already have/ love it, then enjoy it, even buy a back up if you can.
@Carine C I didn't judge her, I just expressed my opinion. I even take her as a model in some aspects of life, in others we don't agree and it's normal to think differently.
@Carine C Let's not pull out the "some women like to judge other women" pity card. It's quite ridiculous to assume that or suddenly twist this discussion into some issue about female societal dynamics. It is also entirely irrelevant in this case, as I personally would have pointed out the inconsistency of logic regardless of whether the channel owner was a man or woman. At the end of the day it is the channel owner's perfume collection, it is her money and she is entitled to do with it as she sees fit. There was no need for her to "justify" her decision making process online, however since she volunteered this information and openly invited opinions regarding it on her public platform, I am sure she will appreciate that others may have a different perspective. It does not necessarily make them "negative Nancy's", just people offering up a different perspective.
I agree with so many others. If you have it, use it! Just enjoy it. You may not even like it after a year or be tired of it. I don’t suggest getting a ton of back up bottles unless the scent is really unique. BO OG and flankers all have a similar vibe. I bought a back up of Guerlain La petite robe noire intense because I heard it was discontinued and that blueberry note is really unique among fragrances (to me.. i really smell the difference.).. all the other LPRN smell different, but the same. I would be fine with anything that has a sour cherry note. I love to wear perfume while home alone. I spray it on my hand so that I can really experience it. I get rid of the ones that bore me. I figure that out at home. If I spray it and 20 minutes later, I want to wash it off and try something else, I put it in my declutter pile. If I like it, I keep it. You have loved BO from the beginning. Enjoy the last three you have.
I’am a huge black opium fan, I own the original, Nuit Blanche and Extreme. The Extreme is my favorite by far, it is the only one I can see myself repurchasing in the future, the delicious coffee/cocoa notes are addictive 💕
Love your aesthetic and your opinions. Rather than amassing full bottles and decluttering, have you considered using more samples and being much more strict on purchases?
I feel like owning discontinue fragrances is a treat; I use it and embrace my time with it, even if it's short lived. New perfumes are made all the time and there will always be new favorites. Enjoy your discontinue fragrances girl! I want to try the illicit green. I only own the intense version and I really love it.
I've always really appreciated your honesty (and bravery!) when it comes to sharing your personal journey with trying to keep a moderate collection whilst also loving discovering new scents! I can completely relate to the struggle! 😄 I also understand what you mean about being reluctant to form attachments to the discontinued ones within the context of having a curated collection of favorites for life. I know it's hard, but try not to let the negative comments deter you from what you're doing. I'm sure there are other like-minded minimalist perfume enthusiasts who relate to you and your unique perspective and love coming along for the ride xx
Keep what you love and enjoy regardless if it’s discontinued or not. At the end of the day, you can go through many many bottles of the same perfume, enjoy those memories associated with that scent and then never have the desire to purchase it again. I think that we as consumers have this “oh my gosh I can never get this again so therefore I have to buy multiples” when you never had the original desire to have multiples of the same fragrance. Like you stated they can discontinue fragrances at any time, so I say enjoy them while you can 💕.
For me, I would’ve decluttered the easily accessible ones cause if you have any regrets, you know they are easy to acquire. I would’ve kept illicit green cause it’s new, and you like it, and nuit blanche cause it’s discontinued and harder to get, but that’s just me! You do you! ❤️
I'm also on a mission to refine my collection to only ones I love!! I really enjoy hearing your thought process to let go of similar ones. Keep all these videos coming!
I never bother with getting backups because.... It takes a year to use up an 100ml with serious usage, yet I have so many different bottles to rotate that chances are all these perfumes will go bad before I ever have a chance to get to finishing them. I also like the Illicit Green a lot!
I'd keep discontinued ones that I love that same way as would ones that can be repurchased. It really is like you said, a relationship that is doomed to fail, but getting rid of it now would mean ending it prematurely. Instead you might as well keep it and enjoy it for longer while it lasts..
I appreciate how many videos you make about your collection as a whole. Curating and refining the collection is fun for me as well, and re-selling things that don’t work for me lets me use or save that cash for something else!
The Illicit Green ❤ I too got my nose on this and it immediately became my favorite! I bought a bottle and it’s on the way. It’s like when you know, you know! 😊
When I first started my hunt for that perfect signature scent I was focused on finding a fragrance that would stand the test of time and hopefully not be discontinued. Once I began collecting I decided I wouldn't concern myself with whether it was discontinued or not. I'm not going to worry myself with wether it'll stick around or not. There will always be new fragrances. 😊
@@thesimplechiclife if I were to have just one or maybe a few signature scents. Something my girls would remember me by I would be far more particular and concerned about back ups, but until that day I'll be buying bottles even knowing they're discontinued. I've just purchased Si Fiori and JPG Classique Essence Absolue and I'm going to enjoy them while I have them 😊
I love the entire black opium line. With Nuit Blanche being my absolute favorite. Next is illicit green, i don't have a full size of the original anymore. But i do in Neon, Nuit Blanche, Extreme, Illicit green, and thats good for me. However, i will never declutter the full sizes i have
I am on the same page about trying to get back to a “normal” sized fragrance wardrobe that are truly me. I think 10-12 full bottles and another 10 travel or decants will suit me. And I will continue to sample as I enjoy that - it doesn’t mean I need more bottles. It’s really challenging to get into the right mind space to declutter things that are liked but not needed. And I do think I would change my mind frequently. With regard to black opium I think you actually really love all of them so there is no bad choice. Whatever you keep you’ll love. And when you use up a bottle you can reevaluate which one will replace the empty.
I totally would keep what you love, discontinued or not. I see your "doomed relationship" analogy , but if you love it, love it while you can. I adore my sweet wonderful dog. But I know he'll be gone someday and there will never be another just like him. I wouldn't get rid of him since I won't always have him. I love him while I can and am grateful for the experience.💕
Hi beautiful lady, enjoy your perfumes, even if their discontinued, life is so short enjoy until the last spray of that bottle, maybe one day you will find a dupe never know. Have a wonderful day georguos lady, love watching all your content. Love love love 💕💕💕🥰😇
I would definitely keep a soon to be discontinued fragrance and enjoy it. That is the point of using perfume, isn't it? And at the end of the day it's just perfume. It's not like you are going to be permanently separated from your daughter, your partner or your parents, so it's a kind of problem you can live with.
I've never smelled a black opium! I enjoy these type of videos. It's ok to change your mind. It's only perfume. I like hearing all your opinions about the perfumes you have.
I don't wear perfume if I'm staying in at home by myself. Not because I don't want to be "wasteful" or because I don't think i deserve to wear it, I just see perfume as the finishing touch to getting ready, like the cherry on top, and if I'm at home in my pajamas, I'm not going to spray perfume on because I just don't feel like it "matches" the overall look I have going on when I'm staying in. I'd like to somewhat match the vibe/persona I have in my mind of each of my perfumes. I'll definitely do one spray on the arm every now and then just so I can get a light whiff of something nice, but I don't do an actual perfume application unless I'm a little more put together.
Discontinued makes no difference to me- makes me want to be sure I have it or buy an extra if needed then enjoy it. When I saw how much you love Nuit Blanche- I immediately went and bought one. It’s on its way here now. I’ll love it while it lasts and then move on to the next black opium that will probably exist at that point in time. 😂
I’ve only tried the original Black Opium but wanna try the Illicit Green based on your description. I don’t mind buying and using up discontinued fragrances--I’m usually over a scent by the time I use up the bottle anyways! Thanks for sharing your honest perspective with us. It’s that realness that makes you one of my favorite perfume reviewers 😁😁
Currently illicit is my favorite now. The Blanche was number one but since it's discontinued illicit replaced it . Though I would just keep them all because they're so enjoyable and slightly different.
I usually keep discontinued perfume, especially if they are becoming hard to find and enjoy it until I used them up which can take a long time if you have several perfumes. I have Nuit Blanche; absolutely love it; the longevity is not the best ; but Its worth keeping it ; it’s a beautiful blend and this one is hard to find ; I just ordered The Illicit one so waiting to test that one .
I own Black Opium Floral Shock, which is discontinued but still available online in some places like shoppers drug mart online. I prefer it to the original, which smells too much like I spilled a hot coffee all over me, unfortunately, on my skin, it’s all about the coffee and all the other notes don’t even seem to exist. So beautiful on paper though.
With discontinued ones I probably would get a back up or two… And also look around and for Fragrenica to see what is close to the scent that has been discontinued. They discontinued Nirvana bourbon which I absolutely loved so I got a back up but then I found out that Sol de Janeiro I think its # 40 smell very close to it. I also love the Illicit green, just got a travel size and also the travel size of extreme so I think when you get a travel size if it’s just about anywhere and you can have them and use them. I do put on a light fragrance when I’m home and when I go to sleep. Mostly body sprays for nighttime.
I love hearing about your scented journey! It is a big pleasure to listen to you as it is always well thought and composed what you say. Even if you are indecisive about some perfume. This video reminded me of my backup bottle journey 😉 I came to the conclusion that this urge to get backup bottles of every loved perfume is providing some kind of security. As life is pretty unpredictable and we can't control everything, knowing that we have a backup bottle of a comforting scent enhances this comfort feeling 😊 letting a loved perfume go is also a kind of therapy - learning to let the past go with the good and the bad. Whenever I catch myself thinking of getting a backup bottle I am 'embracing' my all current insecurities. And I remind myself of the fact that when we use a perfume up (not in the near future anyway, for me and you and many others 🤣) and makes place for new exciting releases. This is a metaphor of life isn't it? 😊
I always keep my discontinued fragrances, I love enjoying them while I have it.then when it's done nothing I can do just move on to next favorite. But love to love it!❤ of course your going to struggle with declutters, that's normal!I think your being to hard on yourself,I love how organized and just how you aren't a hoarder is awesome!I get alot of inspiration from you.i think you should keep the nuit blance and enjoy it till it finishes, imho.because when you finish nuit blance you can always repurchase the og one.
The way I see discontinued fragrances is you never know will be discontinued so many of my favorites are discontinued. I had some backup bottles and some I didn’t due to it getting discontinued before I could get a new backup. But I enjoyed what I had for the time I had it. I think their will always be new perfumes and things that will be similar. I think once I’ve finished my backup or one bottle I will grieve and move on to what’s next.
Do what is right for you, there will always be people who have opinions but life isn’t black and white and things change - we grow, we learn. Loved hearing about these different flankers as I am not overly familiar with the Black Opium line. 🤗
My favorite is the Intense version in the blue bottle - sadly it’s on the way out. I got to smell the new green and was surprised how much I liked it - on the whole I don’t think the basic Black Opium essence is dramatically different between the different flankers.
I love black opium and all of the flankers so far. I just mix them up. Sometimes I want the OG. It’s amazing! Other times I love floral shock when I need a more floral feel. I also have intense. I love the opening, but it doesn’t last long, but still the bottle is gorgeous. I will use them all up eventually.
I really want to check out the illicit green, been really into fig lately and at the currant moment I don’t have any black opiums so hoping this one will be the one!! I think you made great choices!!❤️
Team Black Opium 🙌😍 own the OG in EDP and EDT…neither are my go to for nighttime going out, I wear both during the day and sometimes layered together 👌 But now I’m really curious about the Green edition 😉 thank you for sharing your thoughts 🌹
If you love a fragrance thats discontinued just enjoy it until it's gone. Get a backup of Nuit Blanche. Its the best in the line, its an absolute keeper in my opinion
I'm a Black Opium fan. With your question, I would keep the fragrance even if it's discontinued. Love it for as long as I can get a bottle and buy backups of it. There's plenty of bottles left on fragrance websites so that's not a problem.
I agree with decluttering based on performance. I don’t keep perfumes that don’t last. On a side note, could you share what editing software you use? I’m having a heck of a time finding one i like.
I think you should keep the discontinued perfumes. Yes, you might be heartbroken when you run out, but at least you had a good time with them and enjoyed them, and you will have memories with them! About the decluttering part - no, it is absolutely necessary and good to do so! We live in too much stuff, clutter and things, which overwhelm us and don’t serve us any purpose. Decluttering is taking care of your space and of the planet too.
I use to love black opium nuit blanche.. the original was too sweet for me. I have since decluttered and have not looked back. The started to smell the synethic notes in it and I had more vanilla's in my collection that gave me the same vibe without the synthetic.
I love the EDP and the Nuit Blanche. The Nuit Blanche had terrible longevity and I can’t find it now. At least not at a good price. I’m sticking to the EDP. I do like the Neon. I might get a small bottle. I have my collection where I want it so I may just pass on it all together.
"perfumes for life" does that even exist? Our taste and nose change, and better perfums always around the corner. I bought Thameen Peregrina a few months ago and was worried about the 'next bottle' and now I found a better fragrance and can't wait to use up the bottle of Peregrina or even sell it
Yes please I’d like to know!?? I agree that sometimes we may like a scent and over time be over it and not like it as much. It happens to me all the time
I didn't like black opium, it smelled like stale coffee on me. I'm a huge coffee drinker though, and routinely smell fresh coffee, so I think that's why. But I hear you about decluttering. I've always been poor af. Now that we are a little better off, and I have more than one bottle of perfume I have to consider giving away perfumes I like but don't love, otherwise they will just be wasted sitting in my cabinet taking up space. No judgment here.
I had a sample of extreme, I liked it but not enough for me to get a bottle. I went through the neon version and loved that one so much I'm considering getting another bottle but before I do that I want to try illicit green! I still have the OG and love that one too, I also wear it during the day :) have you ever sampled the floral shock? I'm wondering about that one 🤔
Oh heavens, you should keep nuit blanche and get rid of original. You can easily replace that one in the future and you can enjoy all your others while its gone. I treasure all of my discontinued perfumes. 🙏🙏🥰
Did anyone had the problem that the glass where its written black opium is blurry? I got it from the local perfume shop in my town. I don't think they sell fake ones...
I don't think the oxygene is the main reason a perfume goes bad. I had perfume (half bottle) 5 years later is still good and others full that have gone bad, one from the light and the others...I don't know.
I haven’t smelled the floral shock for quite. A while, my local store had their tester stolen 😆, but I’d love to revisit it. The neon is so juicy and sexy!:)
I love Floral Shock! I would have never discovered it unless someone recommended it. I decided to get a back up, cause it's hard to find and it is sunny fragrance
Are you a black opium fan? And if so, which is your fave??? Would you have kept or decluttered a different one from me?
I love Black Opium , my faves are the Extreme and the new Illicit Green.
I love nuit blanche ❤
I am a black opium lover! My favourite is definitely nuit blanche

That’s very true, as some are discontinued others will be brand new. 💕 good point
Where did you buy it from?
I keep and use my discontinued fragrances because that’s what perfumes are for, to use them and enjoy the scent
Keep what you love! Don’t worry about things being discontinued. Life is short and uncertain.
Seems a little obsessive to think that if you can't have something in your life ETERNALLY, that there's no point in enjoying it now...
I only own the Intense but I am inclined to purchase the Green Elixir..
Black opium neon is my favorite by far!!
If you love a fragrance thats discontinued just enjoy it until it's gone. Get a backup of Nuit Blanche. Its the best in the line, its an absolute keeper in my opinion
Can you please tell me which Hourglass blush you were showing in that pan-over of your makeup items? The colour is so beautiful 😍
Your nails look beautiful!🤍
I would use it ~90% and keep the rest so i can smell it sometimes.
😬….could never pick! Love them all! Still want Blanche.
I would definitely keep it and use it up
I think you should keep the discontinued perfumes.
I bought Thameen Peregrina a few months ago and was worried about the 'next bottle' and now I found a better fragrance and can't wait to use up the bottle of Peregrina or even sell it
Oooh, what is the new fragrance you discovered?

What do you think of Black Opium Neon?
When you (or people in the comments) 'declutter,' how do you do so? Do you give perfumes to other people or sell them?
I don't think the oxygene is the main reason a perfume goes bad. I had perfume (half bottle) 5 years later is still good and others full that have gone bad, one from the light and the others...I don't know.
Wondering if you have ever smelled BO Floral Shock? Nuit Blanche, Illicit Green and Floral Shock are my top picks of this line!
I haven’t smelled the floral shock for quite. A while, my local store had their tester stolen 😆, but I’d love to revisit it. The neon is so juicy and sexy!:)
Lol I read BO as body odour until i figured out you abbreviated Black Opium.
I love Floral Shock! I would have never discovered it unless someone recommended it. I decided to get a back up, cause it's hard to find and it is sunny fragrance
Hey friends perfect mini love ❤️
really great video
