As a German I am super embarrassed by this. The ticked inspector seemed like a total douche. People that are not speaking German and don't have experience with the BVG deserve some slack if they appear to have intended to purchase the ticket. Invalidating the ticket after also was a total dick move.
Yeah that is bizarre, like you think a tourist will know the rules about validating well enough to try to scam the system by not validating? Just let them off and say do it right next time, especially on an empty train.
Im working in the German transport sector and can only guess that our Lord bought not the ticket Nili meant. On the other hand: if even the Lord is unable to understand German public transport its now confirmed that this is the most complicated system ever invented. Even me as a professional has bought the wrong ticket many times when Im in a unknown Verkehrsverbund. 😅
As a German I can relate. Once I took a train connection which had a stop at Bamberg where I was supposed to get one a different train. Well, halfway to Bamberg they announced that the follow up train has left the station since we had a delay of a few minutes, and it did not want to wait. When we arrived, I bought a bottle of beer at the shop of the station to enjoy my spare time. I walked back to the rails, opened the bottle to take sip, when I realized the train, which did not want to wait, was actually still standing there. It tooted once, then left. Fortunately, I only had to wait 90 minutes for the next train to my destination. The station sold a few more beers. Daut, I feel you, even lords are all made of flesh.
The train guy was a total douchbag. He saw that the pasanger is a tourist and actualy bought the ticket. Just help hin out or ignore the fact that he didnt validate and keep going with your life
When traveling in Italy, I had totally opposite experiences:) For example- bus driver not taking my money when I was coming back to hotel late night in Rome.. same with a train conductor when I asked about a ticket on a local train near Salerno- he just waved a hand, meaning 'no need'. As for the Germans- this (infuriating) experience is exactly what I would expect. I heard it is considered proper/normal behavior to call cops on your neighbor if he parks his car wrong, just so that perfect public order is obeyed. So conductor's behavior with Daut fit that same tone very well. And I kind of want to experience such things myself, as national character is nice and special to see (as a tourist).
Every single time I have flown since I was a child, I have been selected for a random search and checking of the papers. I suspect that there's something with my face or something rather than it being truly random.
Hope there was a giant colourfully blinking sign saying in English "IF YOU BOUGHT A TICKET, VALIDATE IT HERE!" and an arrow pointing towards the machine.
On the card it says "Please validate before use" at the very top. But still, it's something many tourists miss because they don't even think to look at the card after buying.
at least in germany they dont work on comission (unless the ticket checkin got outsourced to another company). That is a myth that people are spreading for a looong time.
@@edmis90 I apology in advance for my possibly false assumption, but I can't shake off the thought that guy would have treated such a case differently, had he faced a english businessmen or a granny. I may be wrong, but unfortunately some of my colleagues make such a thought imaginable.
What ticket did he bought? The ABC ticket he would need is 4,40 not 4,20? And which route did he take? From the BER to the Zoo its 6 stopps not 21. Something dont add up here.
I guess He bought some kind of "Zeitticket". These type of tickets sometimes need extra validation so your able to buy them in advance and validate when the trip starts. This would explain the higher price. I guess 90% of Tourists dont understand this. Maybe its only written in German or too small or you dont expect that this needs to be validated on a different machine which is hard to find. Its just ...Germany😅
Those are ticket with time expiry, without specification of route, train etc. so you can use them freely for any direction. The ticket that Daut bought was for 2 hours, however it does not mean the time runs since you bought the ticket, it only start to count time once you validated the ticket. It is designed in that way, so you can buy your ticket whenever you want, let's say 2 days before using it. And once you want to use it, you just validate it, in some case you can do it directly in the vehicle in other cases you have established places, where you need to do it, as train stations and so on.

same thing happens in my country (czech republic), I think they may get some extra money if they "catch people"
It is worth mentioning that even for native Germans it might not be obvious to validate tickets when visiting Berlin.
I agree, very embarrassing.
Imo it highly speaks for Daut to still be able to tell the story seemingly as lighthearted as he did.

Welcome to Germany sir. Oh you bought a ticket? You forgot to pay the ticket fine!
Disrespecting the Lord??
That German official will answer for this in the afterlife 11
Daut once got a speeding ticket. The police officer was brought to court and is now serving lifetime in prison for this blashemy.
That was a Daut ticket
😂😂
How could that pleb officer treat the Lord like this? what a heresy!

that was one quick wall by the the train inspector
poor daut, we should donate some more to the event so his pricepool will make it up :D
ive been living in germany 4 whole years and i have no idea about validating tickets
Not all cities do it.
Italy has validation as well. Unless you buy the ticket on your phone then you don't need to do it. Sounds really dumb and convoluted.
You have to validate in Berlin
DauT is a Legend!
Isn't NAC any longer in Hamburg? 4.20€ for the ticket is wrong and I believe you don't need to invalidate it...

A bit over an hr from this post I believe. Different schedule now that it is down to top 8.
