    Thank you for making such a calm video compared to all other noise laden videos, vid fast cut transitions, no time to breathe and just going all out non-stop to keep viewers engaged. It does not work for me and is the quickest way to get me to skip the video. Your style of video kept me paying attention all the way. Thanks for making a difference here on UA-cam.

    I got a fenix a couple of years ago (coming from being an Apple user). I wanted to love it but just couldn't and feel the biggest barrier for me was the awful screen. I also found it very difficult to learn (not intuitive) so I quickly gave it up and went back to Apple and ultimately the Apple Ultra. That said, I recently got into marathon training. Had always been an endurance sport person (just not running)...I did a lot of hiking/mountain climbing, tris, etc but when I began marathon training I was looking for that better battery life with all the other bells and whistles...which brought me to my Epix Pro Gen 2 which I LOVE (plus I'm very petite with like child size wrists so having the choice of size was HUGE). Anyway, I quickly fell in love with my Epix (which I was doubtful of given my experience with Fenix_ but I have fully given up using my AWU. so when I saw this vid I was originally freaked out but now I'm happy if it just means the AMOLED screen goes to the Fenix...since I have now learned and feel comfortable with the Garmin interface that used to scare me.

    I bought the Epix because the maps are more detailed on the AMOLED screen. I don't plan on upgrading for awhile so if they decide to just keep improving the Fenix, that sounds good to me

    Consolidated models makes sense, they conflict with each other too much that I couldn’t decide and have stuck with my 955 for now. I want the Epix Gen 2 with LTE so I can ditch the smartphone. Being in the UK I need to pray a bit harder for that.

    I agree with your findings. I also think that due to Epix's succes, the Fenix line will be AMOLED from now on. And yeah, the E model will likely be a MIP display. It makes sense though.. I personally prefer MIP displays, but so many people prefer AMOLED and Fenix is a strong brand which carries much more value and is better known than the EPIX brand. So yeah the EPIX brand is probably done for.

      The mip display is crap. Ffor hiking, diving and daytime it just sucks, full stop. Its the reason why I bought an Apple Ultra. But Apples battery sucks, no offline maps and doesn’t last for an ultra.

    The faster they consolidate the models (demand for MIP display models dwindling) the better for Garmin. The line up for an average consumer has to be simple with clear difference in features with good value for money. Garmin that way is moving in the right direction 🤞😃

    Epix 1 was also the first one to integrate maps before the fenix line. Then fenix 5x came out with the maps and Epix 2 did not come out until the amoled update. Seems like they are using the epix line to test features for the fenix lineup.

    • @DaveDoesFitness
      @DaveDoesFitness  Місяць тому +1

      While this would be a crazy product strategy... You're definitely right that historically the Epix has come in with a big new feature and then been cut when that feature makes its way to the Fenix. Good observation 👍

    Yup. They are going to do what they did with the Descent MK3 series and just make them all OLED. There really is no reason for Garmin to have two watches that are essentially the same minus the screen. The Fenix 8 will be OLED minus the new E which will probably be the old screen because of the cheaper price.

    Great researching for us Garmin fans! Thanks!
    I upgraded from a Fenix to an epix Pro G2 with a release date of 05/31/2023. If the cycle is 2 years, still leaves 1 to go. Just recently updated firmware to 17.28.
    It seems from all the media attention and influence that the epix Pro and MARQ (based on epix) is here to stay and the Fenix released in 2022 is more for the ultra athlete or longer battery life needs.
    imho anyway…

    For me, I am amazed at how many comments there are on the Garmin forums with people asking for a Fenix with an AMOLED screen. So many people did not know the Epix existed, or that is was the AMOLED version of the Fenix. For me, I prefer the MIP screen. I detest the raise to wake feature. Raise to wake (on all brands) is flawed. I see watches light up all the time when they make any movement- not necessarily being raised to look at the screen.

Thanks for watching the video! 💪🏃

  • @80lives
    @80lives Місяць тому +29

    It's a no brainer to fusion both. The Epix has always been a Fenix with an AMOLED screen, that is it. 2 years ago I bought a Fenix 7, I couldn't live with the horrendous screen for the price I had paid. It felt like the screen of an 80's Casio. So went back the next day and for 100 bucks more got the Epix. I never looked back. So the Epix is not being killed at all, you are not presenting it correctly. Gamin is doing what they should've always done: simply update the Fenix screen to the 21st century and keep on going.

    • @DaveDoesFitness
      @DaveDoesFitness  Місяць тому +10

      I'd argue that the Epix brand was targeted at a different demographic than the Fenix so it was distinct in at least that manner. Was it a Fenix with an OLED? Definitely. Did Garmin do what they could to differentiate it from the Fenix? Of course. If there is no Epix 3 then the Epix line is killed off, and I felt I explained that well in the video and am not baiting, but can respect your opinion in seeing it differently. Either way, thanks for watching and taking the time to provide some feedback! 💪🏃

      That's a good question. The Tactix was on a roughly 2 year release schedule from Original, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, all the way to 7. The OLED came out 1.5 years after and based on the April '22 release date of the 7 series I would say the model is due for an update soon, but I haven't seen any information about it. I love my Epix 2, the biggest reason is the display, Fenix can not compete with the brightness. I was really looking forward to the Epix 3

      Seems like it's arriving soon in all, but name. Fenix 8 = Epix 3

      I dont know, what you mean with brightness. Fenix display is brighter on direct sunlight than Amoled, and in the dark it is also bright more than enough, with backlight. Amoled might be nicer, but surely not brighter.

      @@pavolhorvath7850 Ahh No, I had both, and the reason I kept the Epix was the display. Tell you what, I’ll change my statement to it is easier to read. There, feel better now?

    Weird place to put your microphone. Maybe on the shirt next time?

    MIP is dead. Not sure what they'll call the next line. My Epix Pro 51mm with the amoled screen's battery lasts longer than my Fenix 7xSS 51mm did.

    Do you really think this is accidental? These are soft tests Garmin asks third parties to do to gauge consumer feedback.
