not so convinced about wonka. sure, it has visuals and a great cast, but i found the music kind of passable. and i really don`t understand why they CGed Hugh Grant`s face. as for your no 1, i totally agree. it is a wonder from a true master of his craft.

I like WONKA despite the Timothée and Hugh of it all-two weak links for me. I'm still singing the music XD

The Boy and the Heron is great! Stunningly beautiful and fantastically exciting, yet meditative and thought-provoking! Joe Hisaishi’s wonderful soundtrack is deceptively simple and immensely emotive! I very much prefer the original Japanese title of the movie: How Do You Live?

I need to see The Boy and the Heron again, but on first watch it's definitely worthy of Miyazaki's legacy (I too thought Wind Rises was a perfect grace note and, to me, easily his best film).
The Zone of Interest is my film of the year. A second watch just confirmed it. Decade-defining stuff, and the best evocation of Haneke you could ask for from someone who isn't Haneke.
I'm completely puzzled at the reception of Godzilla Minus One. Maybe it was hyped too much for me, but you'd think the way some people talk about it that it's their first movie ever. Really reminds me of RRR, in that it's a good film whose sincerity I appreciate, but there are films that do what this does far better and more interestingly, imo. Also, absolutely god awful ending.
Poor Things isn't quite peak Yorgos, but it's close enough. Incredible to look at and listen to, just a weirdo treat all around!
I love the way Sean Durkin takes straightforward melodrama and cuts to the core of the story to make it as hard-hitting as possible. The Iron Claw is fantastic; amazing stuff from Zac Efron!
Glad to finally have the chance to see a Michael Mann film in theatres, even though Ferrari basically confirmed that I'll never get onboard the whole "dad-core filmmakers like James Cameron and late-stage Mann are geniuses, actually" bandwagon.
Obviously very hyped for All of Us Strangers, and intrigued to see American Fiction, even though the TIFF Audience Award stamp that propelled it into the limelight usually doesn't bode well for the lasting quality of films. Jeffrey Wright is a beast, though, so it'll be nice to see him get his due.

THE BOY AND THE HERON really solidified for me on a second viewing. Hisashi's score is perfection. I saw GODZILLA MINUS ONE well into it's hype and it still knocked me sideways. RRR was my favorite film last year, so guilty as charged XD Was it the hospital scene that ruined the ending for you?

@@cineflect yeah, got out of my second Boy and Heron screening yesterday and can confirm that it moves firmly into the top 10 of the year. Among other things, the ending of Minus One definitely soured most concrete sense of character development or consequence for any of the previous 2 hours.

The Japan worship is so tired and old. I live in japan and Japanese people don't even care for these movies that much. I don't know a single person that loved the Miyazaki film.
