76 Grand Prix was my first car. The exact one in the episode. Black, white interior with automatic on the floor. T tops and all... loved, loved, loved that car.
It's so amazing that back in the seventies we could walk right past a car like the black Pontiac and not think too much about it. We took those amazing cars for granted. There were so many around at the time.
Right, just like watching old reruns from the 70s and 80s and seeing the cool cars getting wrecked.
now all you see is ugly aero dynamic pieces of garbage that they make and call cars .

My uncle owns a '74 Pontiac GP. He bought it new and still has it. The only difference from the '76 here is single round headlights instead of dual rectangles. Sweet ride.
I helped my aunt pick out a 1977 Grand Prix, that was medium blue, small metal flake, with a white T top, and white interior.

learned to drive in my moms '76 Grand prix.350 2 bbl.was a big boat,but it was a great car.hell,we towed a 21' boat with it no problem.
I am blown away watching this. My first car was a 1975 LJ. It was Admiralty Blue (such a dark navy that it was mistaken for black many times), the same white interior with the black carpet and the same white half vinyl top. No T-tops, though.... an electric sunroof instead, two headlights instead of the four smaller ones and the tailights were composed of five vertical sections instead of horizontal ones. It had every option except the 455. The 8-track was usually blasting out Aerosmith.... or Dark Side of the Moon on continuous replay. Very Large Wow, you guys. Thanks for the amazing flashback.

Beautiful cars so nice to see them survive and be cared for. My older brother had a 74 Monte Carlo back in 75 this Grand Prix reminds me of it they are likely the same platform. Who remembers this " YOU GOT IT PONTIAC".
My first car was a 76 white Grand Prix SJ with a 400 and red interior. I was 17 and that was 40 years ago. Some of my most vivid memories are of the time I spent in that car.
The Grand Prix was always my favorite. I was in HS when these came out. Two sisters and their brother each got a brand new Grand Prix when they turned 16. I was so envious of them. Whoever the college grad was that was given this beauty was so lucky. As I’ve gotten older I showed have but never really looked for one to buy. Still absolutely love all the Grand Prix’s of the 70’s. Incredible cars

I remember being a kid in the '70's & seeing big, beautiful vehicles like these everywhere. now sadly, a museum is the only place they can be seen anymore.
Had a 76 Grand Prix LJ. One of my favorite cars I have owned in my 65 years. Just a beautiful design and performance. Pontiac always had well designed vehicles begining in the late forties. Cars now are more for transportation than works of art. Compare almost all of the early model cars to those of today. Then each year model was distinguishable. Now you cant tell one year model from the next.
i had a 1976 grand prix model sj with t tops and the drives seat swiveled so it made it easy to get out and it was like a wine color beautiful car i loved that car
So nice to see something other than Chevelles and Camaros - when I go to a show I am typically drawn to cars that are unique, unusual, or of a make and model you haven’t seen for awhile. These “personal luxury” cars from the ‘60’s and ‘70’s are so fun to look at after you have been bored to tears by row after row of over-restored muscle cars!
That GP is an absolute gem
1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale with a 455 c.i. Motor and white vinyl seats, metallic gold two tone with a brown roof, was the best car I ever had.
The Grand Prix was one of my favorite cars when I was a kid in the 70’s.

My father had a 1976 Gran Prix with a 400 big block. The torque was fantastic.
I had that identical 76 grand prix in my high school days. Had a 400 V8 , t tops, 12 bolt, dual exhaust, swivel buckets, console. I beat the crap out of it! Many burnouts and other crazy stunts, finally scrapped it. I had it back in the 80's. Good times lol 👍

I purchased a shiny new black Grand Prix from the now defunct Sigler Buick-Pontiac dealership in Princeton, KY back in 1974. Mine did not have the T-Tops, but it had the white seats. My door panels were black (I never saw another one like that). Mine had AC and the 400ci engine. As the man says, I was stylin' & profilin' back in those days and this video brought back a lot of fond memories. I miss the good ol' days.

I had a 77 SJ 400 four barrel/turbo 400 trans. I really liked it but it rusted away.
I have a friend on the east coast that has a '77..I like these cars.

Terrence Banton Was a joke. It's a shame that Pontiac had all this car building potential and were forced to make much smaller - and much less stylish - cars due to meeting federal guidelines on gas mileage.
I worked for Oldsmobile as a GM Tech on Long Island from 1981 to 1987... These cars were still coming in for service all the time from the original owner. Still have my timing light in my old Snap On toolbox. I used to buy the trade ins and fix them up... I remember a 1964 Buick Riviera coming in with 51k on the odometer from the original owner and the Used Car manager wanted 500 bucks. It was nearly perfect. The color was Willow Mist Green. I passed because of the color but the car ran and drove as new. I bought a 1974 El Camino instead for 500 buck, also ridiculously clean but I still regret not buying that Riviera....
I had a 73 Grand Prix. What a boat and she floated and was wonderful. Spacious 4 could fit in back. Those big bucket seats and tilted console. FABULOUS.

My Dad owned a silver 76 GP, and later passed it down to me. I loved that big boat. Perfect vehicle for a long turnpike cruise.
My mother owned a brand new 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix. It was white with a red interior and fully loaded. it was sitting on the showroom floor of Stan Chazen Pontiac in West Los Angeles on Santa Monica Blvd. Sticker price was over $6000. She was actually given the car by her rich employer. My mother used to be a private nurse for a rich elderly couple who lived in Bel Air. They loved my mother so much that they told her to pick out any car she wanted and they would pay for it. When the old man died it was in his will to give her a black 1973 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham they had owned. It had only 23K miles on it and that was in 1977.

My friend's mom had the '76 Grand Prix in white. He picked me up to go to school and we started out late with about a 12 minute drive. Laying it out at 120 mph for about 1 1/2 miles will make up enough time to get there on time after all. My mom had a 1972 Grand Prix in white. 400cc, quadrajet carbs, and her favorite car to date.

Bought a 76 Buick Regal after college. Beautiful car, black with red interior. Gutless Buick 350 motor. Great car.
I'm surprised the Pontiac had a new spare. There was an extended tire strike in 76 and my Buick came with only a spare rim. Became 1/2 of my snow tire set anyway.
1967 was my favorite of the big Oldsmobiles, I especially love the headlights.
Wow, both are beauties. I wouldn't mind owning either one but back in the day the Grand Prix was the head turner. Cars were roomy and super comfortable. I hope a "custom" shop never get a hold of original vintage cars like these.

The grand prix just had me crying. I was born in 75 i remember my father and his brother with 3 one was brown one was yellow and my father's was the original blue. This is also the first car my mother learned how to drive in (the blue one) now that they have recently retired (a year ago ) and are moving from newyork to south Florida i started driving trucks a few years ago with one purpose to find one restore it and give it to him for raising a cool dude. I love he will love it.

2 great cars and to think my dad had both those cars but his 67 oldsmobile was red and a convertible he did have a 58 oldsmobile which I did purchase a couple of years ago in his memory which is one of my favorites of the 50's era love those big cruisers 👍
You were stylin' if you had one in 1983 too! I had a 1977 with a 400, triple black with leather interior and Hurst T-Tops. That car was absolutely gorgeous! Turned heads and got compliments everywhere I went. Took it from NY to LA, and it was a dream to drive. Yes the T-tops leaked like a sieve, but they made the car look so much cooler, and a blast to drive with them out. Mine came with big leather pouches to store them in so they wouldn't get scratched. Seeing this video brings back good memories!
I had a 75 Monte, triple black. The Chevy equivalent. Sunroof dripped too! Was like driving a couch. 350. 18mpg on highway with the cruise engaged.
Dripping T tops is the kind of non sense that helped Toyota eventually exceed GM in sales, the 82-92 Camaro / Firebird were really bad about that. I would have a large collection of 1970s GM cars if I could, they had a lot to like about them, but the body, interior and trim quality was not what it had been in the 60s. I had a 1966 Sedan Deville, a 1966 Toronado and a 1975 Fleetwood S75 limo, there was a obvious difference, but the style of those 70s cars... sweeet!

What a trip back in time for me. My parents had a 67 Delta 88 when I was a kid; my Mom kept it until I was in high school. Dad had a '77 Grand Prix LJ later on and it was the first car I got to drive on my own to school. Many memories here.
I love the elegance and simplicity of the 50s/60s and 70s cars. I would love to drive these beasts. You are a lucky man.
My neighbors had a beautiful ‘76 Grand Prix and then I got a ‘79 Grand Prix and is one of my favorite cars. It was dark blue with tan interior... fine car it was !!!
I have a 78 GP. I like the size of it. This has factory genuine wire wheels....super rare.

As a lover of anything old school. I love this car, my Aunt has this and as children we would sit in it and play like we we’re driving down south. Those were the best times.
I had a '77 in the '80's. I bought it from an old man who kept it in incredible shape. It had low miles when I bought it(33,000 sticks in my mind for some reason) and was immaculate. The old man garaged it and even Armour Alled the floor mats! I drove it way past 100,000 when it began to rust around the rear window, where moisture would collect. It was dark forest green with a lighter green interior and was stunning. I called it my "boulevard yacht". It was so long and heavy driving it was like driving a pillow. I miss it just typing about it!
Wow! Both of those puppies are absolutely flawless. Thanks for preserving them. Not many cars such as these survived (in any condition), like thier more "collectable" counterparts. (Ie: Chevelle, Camaro, Mustang, etc)

Love the Grand Prix! I owned a 1970 SJ. It had the 455ci engine, positraction rear end with automatic transmission and electric everything! From a dead stop it would smoke both rear tires if you stomped the accelerator! And it was smooth, a very nice luxury muscle car. If not for the 10MPG I would have kept the car!
I was 16 at the time and I always thought that Grand Prix was a dream machine.
I had a 74 Grand Prix, I loved it. My sister had a 76 and my brother had a 72. The 74 and 76 were the same cars, except for the grills (waterfall on 76) and tail lights (horizontal back of light in center of tail light on 74). The 72 was a much different car, but still similar.
Loved the wide-tracking Pontiac! I remember drooling over an electric green one with the T-tops and a white interior like this one! Not enough Benjamins in my wallet at the time, though!

As a kid, our next door neighbor co-owned a Pontiac dealership. Their cars turned into demos after a couple months including some Grand Prix's . My favorite their 75 TransAm 6.6L w/ t-tops in various colors including the Smokey & the Bandit Black and Gold. Great memories. Thanks.

I feel sorry for kids today - sure gets gas mileage it's eco-friendly it's electric etc.... but there's no life or soul in their cars

Growing up, our next door neighbor, had one similar. I think it was actually a Delmont 88
Road trip, when we were 17, in best friend's Dads 1976 Grand Prix was a trip, I will never forget. Cleveland to Springfield Illinois, for the Street Machine Nationals. So glad we had trusting parents.
I can remember going to the Pontiac dealership with my old man, thumbing thru the color catalog that contained the different models, colors and engine options. Then using a pencil, check off the boxes for the options. After that you had to haggle over the price with the sales staff, then wait sometimes two months for the car to get built.
When the phone rang (this was before caller ID) we would see who could answer it first hoping it was the dealership with good news! I can remember a '75 Monte Carlo my dad ordered, and it came with the wrong color vinyl top! White over maroon instead of black!
It’s 2021 now! It’s the first time I’ve ever seen the car I learned to drive in! It’s the Olds! My Dr father had one (he thought Cadillacs were too pretentious) He passed it on to my mother when he bought his next..... Olds 88, a ‘72! (A 4 door, though). My mom taught me to drive in 1973.

My parents had the exact same Delta 88 model in the same color (champagne metallic), bought new in ‘67. Traded it in on a new ‘71 Toronado. I remember the car well. You couldn’t see out the back window due to the extremely slanted fastback design. Very cool car!
exittiming M the Toronado was a beautiful car too. I was too young to drive when it was out but I remember my parents marveling about the front-wheel drive.
We had 1960 Pontiac Bonneville had all the features was red outside and inside the kids loved it when my parents gave them rides in it and I was in high school in late 60s😁😍
Love this! One of my first cars was a 68 88 Olds 2 door and was burgundy with a white top! And Pontiac was my favorite car! The first was a 69 Pontiac Grand Prix Blue in color, 2nd Pontiac was a 74 SJ and my favorite was a 76 LJ Black and silver ! These were all cars I was proud to drive!! Thanks for the memories!!!

That GP is beautiful 😎. My daily driver is a 76' Buick Regal 3.8l 231. The engine still has it's blue factory paint. The color of the car is green with white and green interior. It's a Landua, with white vinyl top. Just broke 💯 thousand miles, 42 yrs in the making. Take care,✌️out 😎

GP for sure, starting to get good money for or them, its about time.
I have a 72, 455 power seats, windows locks and air conditioning. Its triple white but interior isn't as nice as the 76. I also had a 77 that was all black but had the little 301 motor. Not enough umph for me. GM screwed up shutting it down, the G8 was a badass modern car. Best styling in years finally got it back and they shut them down.

Style over substance in the later 70's. Slow and unimpressive...
I had a '76 Grand Prix... ok car, but the back seat was little more than a nicely padded shelf for groceries. there wasn't enough leg room for my then-8 year old daughter.
also, performance sucked. 0-60 in 17 seconds, standing 1/4 mile in 23. add to that a hard ride with too much body roll (stiff springs with too-small anti-sway bars) and the thing handled like a greyhound bus.
mileage wasn't bad with the 350-2V (16 city, 20 hwy), but if you wanted one of these that could at least get out of it's own way the 455 was the only option... but even back then with $0.59 gasoline, 13 mpg highway could get really salty....
I remember both cars, they were common, the pontiac I was getting my drivers license that year.
Those Grand Prixs were great cars - in the mid-80's I bought one similar to this (can't remember how much but it was way cheap) when I was desperate for a good, cheap car. Pretty beat-up on the outside, but it ran great and started every time - never let me down. Best car bargain I ever had.
I graduated HS in 74, bought a 75 Vette in 76, my buddy had the 75 Grand Prix Hurst T tops, we picked up so many girls in that car, we're both handsome men, that helped ;))
My dad had that exact grand prix and as a kid i would dream about driving that car. I would sit in the drivers seat and pretend to be driving down the highway. One day i am going to get a 1976 Grand Prix SJ.
Two great cars. I always like Oldsmobiles because they were always so smooth and quiet. That Grand Prix is pretty sweet too.

I had a 1974 Monte Carlo with sport bucket seats and in the floor shifter. Awesome car! Miss it!
I LOVE the looks of the '74 and '75 Monte Carlo best, Tom. They were the most beautiful of the 2nd gen Montes; perfect from the front. sides, and back ends. I loved the taillights on the '76, but not the front end. On the '77 I didn't care for the the taillights either, in addition to the 2nd year of the 'stacked' headlights. It's sad you never see these cars at vintage car shows, it really is.
The sound of the Pontiac starting with those keys, I remember that sound as a kid
Small fun fact, cars of this era had 2 keys. The part that you grab with your fingers was either square or round.The square shaped key was for the ignition. The round one was for the glove box, door, and trunk.
That was a running theme right into the 90's... heck early 2000's for some cars.
My 02 Camaro has two keys. 😄
I was 9 years old and actually with my grandmother the day she took delivery of her brand new 67 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Holiday Coupe at Oge Oldsmobile in Tyler, Texas. It looked identical - same gold paint and black vinyl roof - to yours in this video sans the Delta Custom optional features - additional side chrome, rear lower bumper tail lights etc. The interior was identical, though, and included factory air conditioning and an AM radio. I distinctly remember getting to sit in the back seat while the salesman described the operation of each switch and feature to her. The beautiful red center of the steering wheel was exactly the same with the Oldsmobile rocket emblem. She was so proud of the new Delta having traded in a blue 64 Chevrolet Impala 4 door hardtop for it. She was on the road a lot in this car and I had the privilege of getting to wash it frequently for her. I can still see every detail of the exterior in my minds eye from having washed it so many times. The Oldsmobile was truly a step up for her as it was more personal - a new sales concept at the time, especially for single buyers - luxurious and sporty. As a single working lady, the car represented a major accomplishment for her and she couldn’t have been more proud of it. Thinking back on that day I couldn’t have realized until years later how much this meant to her at the time. Seeing your car in this video brought back all those vivid memories from that day 53 years ago at our local Oldsmobile dealer in Tyler. Thank you so much.
That Grand Prix looks much like the 77 Cutless Supreme I had back in the 80's. What a Cruiser it was! Power and luxury ride!

I had a '76 LJ with Hurst Hatches. It was a metallic grey with a black vinyl half-top and black velour interior. Loved that car so much.

I had the 1977 Grand prix SJ model with black exterior and red interior. This car had t-tops, honey comb wheels, and trans am dual exhaust. Only true Pontiac fans know what I mean about the exhaust. Man I wish I had that car still. Like a young man who didn't know what he had, I traded it in 1984 after owning it for a couple of years. 😥

I had a 76 GP. It was one of the best cars I ever owned. Despite constant rust problems even though it was garaged, I wish I never sold it.
Some people would be shocked at how quiet and soft both of these cars ride compared to current vehicles. Almost like floating on a cloud. Turning/handling is a different story but still. The curved dash of the SJ was really a big deal back then.
I had a 1976 GP in High School in 1984. My Dad bought her brand new in 76’ and passed her down to me when I got my drivers license. Black with a saddle vinyl interior. Mine was not an SJ so I did not have the center console, T-Tops or the 400CU I’m assuming the one featured here is a 4 barrel Rochester carb. Mine was a 350CU two barrel that put out 160hp if my memory is correct. I LOVED that car. She was huge and went down the road with serious presents. Tons of torque out of that 350 but definitely not a drag racer. I remember racing a Honda Civic Si ...one from the 90’s I’m guessing and I lost that 0-60 sprint by a few car lengths! But what a fun reliable car. It was hard to keep these old GM cars from rusting and the doors were SO BIG AND HEAVY that they actually started to sag on the hinges and you had to lift up the door in order to close it properly. Those were the days...
