The Pop Song Professor thanks for this but there is definitely more, let Me explain. The first part of the song(before the beat changes) he is actually talking to himself. He says 'you choose to be concealed' which clearly is a reference to the mysterious character he was when he first entered the music industry then he also says 'so you're somebody now, but whats a somebody in a nobody town'. He was only really big in Toronto back then(maybe refering to his hometown of scoubrough) so he was setting the tone for the rest of the album which is about his struggles being away from his hometown. This album has many layers as he admited in his interview with Zane and this track just sets standards for the depths it will reach.
The Pop Song Professor please email me @ hahaporsche@gmail.com I think i can help shine a light on the dancer/escort side of this. This song is insanely deep. If you would like me to give you my idea.. of what he is saying. As if he is a customer
Abel strikes a cord with me being both. I feel like he is talking about me or the girl working nect to me. The "love" men go into a strip club for temporary love. Ee learn how to tell a man we feel one way but completely another. It blows my mind that i can cause someone to reaxt so deeply to me when i pack up go home and forget there were ever there. Like this girl in my town everyone knows me requeats me. A man who doesny like the idustry and comes in and sits down and says "i know the hustle dont try to hustle me" - every touch you sell is a lie. This is the same woman abel has yalked about suncr wicked games. He himself saod kissland was an eztension of the trjlogy
I think when we check whole songs in this album, from kissland till pretty, we live in illusion. I mean we changed our places bcoz he always talked about his city in trilogy. and darkness. but when when we change places ( all concept was in Japan) so however we go far, we still see the world so cold and our dreams can't be real, world is sick place. But most painful thing is " although we know it, we can't stop dreaming" (belong to the world. pretty, the town, adaptation lyric of "love in the sky" specially " I'll teach you to dream" part. .) that's why he used so much dark tones and screaming style thing in songs. this is my opinion can be true and can't be true. but I like to listen thinking in that way. :)
wow, amazing explanation! thanks a million for paying attention to the songs we ask you to explain to us. I personally love the weeknd, 'cause he's the only artist who shows himself as he truly is through his lyrics, he allows us to decipher the deepest and most crazy facts of his life. Thanks again, can't wait for you to explain Trilogy's album.💓
I know its been 4 years but when I listen to this song, I get the idea that this is The Weeknd talking to Abel Tesfaye. Considering the timeline of events as well, how he has been boosted into the fame and tour life out of nowhere and how he has to leave his "nobody town". In fact, I feel like this whole album is Abel letting go of his town, relationships and life before, knowing he has to do that to get where he wants to get.
thank you for this video, I think you nailed it about him commentating about the system that builds or works these "Professionals" and he is sharing his experience with her to us. Professional is the intro/first song on the Kissland album which is full of storys or scenarios like this like "Belong to the world" or "Love in the sky" or even long distance relationships on songs like "Pretty" I recommend if you have time to give that album a listen its dark
Hey man, good effort on the video and I respect what you’re doing. I felt like this was quite a reductive breakdown of what’s being said in the song and what is literally meant. I was hoping to get more of an insight into the complexity of the emotional pain and waves Abel is experiencing during this song. I guess you could say I was looking for a psychoanalysis of his personality in this song. Sorry if this criticism is misplaced but that’s just how I felt by the end of the video. Great work with the channel though.
Kissland is very much an anhedonia kind of album isn't it? In Professional, it's like he's asking 'How do you do it? How do you make it work?' How are you able to sell a lie with every touch but doing it professionally, able to function like that. I feel like the person Abel is 'talking to' in this track is largely his own sense of self. Throughout the album he seems to show that he's experiencing a lack of feeling, drained out and numbed. The Professional seems to me to be like a concept of his future self to some extent. There will be elements that he may be taking from either real or conceptual ideas of a professional like an escort or whatever, but I feel like a lot of what he's describing is how _he_ feels and what he feels he _needs to become_ to cope with his own professional persona as an established artist. Interestingly enough, there soon comes after this track the song Adaptation. So again, there are themes of trying to evolve to adapt to _perhaps_ the weird 'all eyes on me' world that a prominent artist finds themselves in.
And then there's the Blade Runner theme to the album. The Voigt Kampf test. How do you learn to smile? [beat the test] Every touch is a lie. [she's a replicant, so each 'human touch' is a lie of the programming.] And then the Professional could be either a Rachel or a Deckard? Which one of them is the cold professional?
Could you do a video in which you give your interpretation on the music video for "I feel it coming", I think there is some interesting symbolism in there again!
Video guy it would have been much more interesting if you did this clarification if you have done it for yourself rather than for the audience. I am, I am sure most others are curious to know the effects of these words may have on others.
i feel like he is talking about him self.you should ckeck out some of the comment below they have got some amazing views on this song. you should also check out coming down by the weeknd i think you wolud like it
"Love in the sky" is by far the deepest song on kissland....if you listen to those lyrics his take on love is mindblowing...you have to take a listen
bballercheetahfan3 I love that song lol. That and Adaptation or my favorite from The Weeknd but I pretty much know every song by heart by now lol
Hell nah
bballercheetahfan3 he’s always getting high cause his confidence is low

It can also be seen as he is talking about himself
In terms of the fame he was starting to get around that time, but he wasn't necessarily happy
YESS :D Finally!!! Can you do House Of Balloons/Glasstable Girls next?
