I agree. His legacy is becoming stronger with what is quite simply an incredible comeback from an "uncomebackable" injury and surgery...returning into the Top 50 in the world nothing short of miraculous...and a dangerous wildcard for Wimbledon 23...is it possible for him to go deep...shorter rallies...grass guile...all round game..
With Andy...every chance he could pull off a miracle...
Maybe his swansong? I hope not..
The Tour will be a lesser entity without him..

Injuries never ended anything for Murray. He was never able to become number "One" before injuries. And he only managed to become number One quite late and only once ini his all career... by luck and only as many weeks as Alcaraz at 19 already managed to be.
So... get real. Murray was "average " good. Never exceptional. And never close to the big 3.

Attention tennis casuals! This is why they called it the "Big 4" back in 2011. Murray shared the top 4 spots in tennis with Fed, Novak and Nadal during that period of time. Show some respect to Andy.
This man at his prime was consistently making deep slam runs and going toe-to-toe against the Big 3 in their prime. If he was in his prime now, I firmly believe he would wipe the floor with the Next Gen.
I mean of course. He’s past his prime now and still beat many nextgens in Qatar

Great video! I think some people forget how good Murray was. It’s so inspiring that he’s still playing and this year he’s had some absolutely amazing matches. It’s fair to say he’s definitely not the same as he was in terms of his level of tennis but I say it doesn’t matter as long as he’s still playing.

Frankly, I think Andy just became happy with his life outside of tennis. His big goal was to win Wimbledon and once that happened, I think he was ready to move on. He's been playing since he was 3 years old and I think he wants spend time with Kim and their Children.
IMO the back injury in late 2013 was more crucial than the hip injury in 2017. Before 2014 he was a player who could sometimes threaten the big 3 on a major stage. After 2013, he pretty much became the big 3’s punching bag. It cost him his prime years in his mid to late 20s and it cost him a chance at multiple majors between 2014 and 2016. It definitely cost him his best chance at winning the AO in 2014 due to Djokovic losing in the QF and Nadal being hobbled throughout the tournament. I also think he would have had a shot at winning Wimbledon 2014 and 2015. As good of a player as he was, to me his strokes, specifically his serve and forehand, always looked clunky so I’m not surprised that a part of his body broke down as he entered his 30s.

Andy was so tough . Remember when he easily beat Novak 2013. in W. final 3-0 . They have similar style , defend first - then attack ! Great respect - i'm glad he's came back . We in Serbia never had a bad word even in our thoughts for Andy Murry .

you said he reached number 3 in 2009, but he also reached number 2 the same year! Also, how can you not mention his Wimbledon titles, especially the first one?!
What happened? He was #1 for 41 weeks until getting injured and having his hip replaced. He has been climbing back up the ladder ever since.
You talk about the way he hit his shots softer but but he could be rather aggressive depending on the match or opponent. In that early victory over Nadal at the US Open he hit the ball anything but softly. Lots of dominant aggressive ball striking in that match.
I would love to see Murray again in some " Grand Slam " finals , but unfortunately it would be very hard .
Prime example why ppl should hold off on the Alcaraz "future GOAT" hype. You don't know the future. Ppl couldn't stop putting Murray in with the Big 3 at one point "The Big 4" they called it. Didn't last, did it? Still, he's probably the greatest British player of all time. 3 Slams, 41 weeks at #1, 2 Gold Medals is quite a career to behold so he has no reason to be ashamed. He did well (for a while)
Man if he hadn't grinded his hip into dust during the second half of that spectacular 2016, he'd probably gone on and win the next first half of 2017. Roger wouldn't have won AO17 nor the sunshine double.

Both Andy murray and Stan wawrinka had amazing primes they both deprived djokovic of 4 grand slam titles and Nadal of 1, let's thank them for making the GOAT debate way more interesting

Andy's career is way more impressive, let's just be real. Just because Stan has the same number of slams, he's nowhere near on Andy's level when it comes to other tennis feats.
@@M.L.official True but Stan has more of a variety when it comes to slams won and all three of his slams were against world no. 1
Murray also deprived Nadal of a Grand Slam title and the non-calendar Golden Slam by defeating Nadal at the 2008 US Open. Nadal would have definitely defeated Federer at the US Open final of that year. Nadal would have won this semifinal against everybody else with the exception of Novak Djokovic.

if i wasn't a fan of Djokovic, I would have loved to see Andy without the injury. Obviously, there is absolutely no doubt in mind he would have won more slams (how many is hard to say) had he continued to play without injury in 2017 onwards. Would have made the slam race very interesting. Pretty tragic career.

Not close to the Big 3: he matched them back then. That's why we called them "Big 4" before his injuries.
Andy Murry was his own greatest enemy. He knew that he was doing untold damage to his hip for a long time but he sacrificed the rest of his career to become world number one, something no other British player as ever done.😢
The Hip resurfacing is not encouraged because of metal poisoning.
Big Murray fan, but it wasn't the injuries that prevented him from reaching Big 3 level success.
Murray a very talented player the mental aspect let him down, 2016 had his hip which broke down. Now he is leaving a different kind of legacy one of passion and commitment

He was still an elite player regardless if he wasn’t as good the big 3
His win/loss ratio and titles other then GS were up there with the big 3. He just didn't get as many slams which was because he met a member of the big 3 in every one and it's much harder to win a final against a goat who's already won 10+ (something Novak/Roger/Rafa never had to do for their first slams). By 2016 that was no longer a problem. If he'd stayed fit he'd have have been favourite for every wimbledon and second favourite behind Novak for US/Assy and 3rd favorate for RG. He would have cost Novak a lot of GS.
Murray was never at the same level as the big 3 (just for starters)... That's what the british press was constantly pumping around...

You can never (never because it's impossible) to compare Murray with just a few months as number One (only 41 weeks), and a humble 3 Grand Slam winner... with any of the other top Big 3.
Mainly because any of the other Big 3 have more than 20 Grand Slam titles (compared with the 3 from Murray..) and each of them was more than 200 weeks as number One ATP (Djokovic even beyond 300 weeks)
To compare Murray with the big 3 (or even to try to suggest it) is just a UK delusional addiction (very common in the islands where they give "Sir" titles to everyone blowing their own trumpets all the time):)

As a plus Murray (despite all the nationalistic fuzz in the UK) was always a ungraceful player with a sturdy lumberjack physique and heavy legs (in the end he got heavily injured of course)... (and not to mention that he was always a bit of a spoiled brat mama boy with a "Sir" title)
