With a little bit of practice it’s not too hard to build the muscle memory for reliably throwing splatbombs on the tower. I find them super useful on tower control because they’re more likely than suction bombs to catch someone before they can drop off the tower.
I've definitely been working on being more intentional with my bomb throws. I picked up the habit because I got a huge amounts of splats when starting to learn the game just by chuckin bombs. But I know I've been throwing them a bit too randomly
I went through the same phase, starting out at lower level ranked it’s easier to get away with. Once the competition gets stiffer throwing bombs randomly only reveals your position more which is not good.
I spam bombs in right zone in undertow all the time and it makes it really easy to cap it as long and they're occupied in the other zone or are too scared to go around, it makes it easy to take their side of the map and screw around
I suggest to throw the bomb to choke points where the enemy will move towards you or your teammates, and use your main weapon to force them to either don't move towards you, OR they move away from your shots and gets into the area of the bomb without knowing. I do this with my curling bombs.
Also, VERY important, if you use curling bombs, I suggest you learn how to charge it and some timings of charging it. Charger curling bomb will have shorter ranges but will have a bigger explosion, helping you covering a lot better a flank or a choke point. Also, the difference between curling bombs and other bombs is that the curling bomb will take time to get to the intended target and so the enemies might "react late" to those; anticipation for that is key....... now that I said that, maybe that is why I tend to get many random curling bomb splats lol XD. In short, with curling bomb, anticipate, charge it, throw it to flanks or choke points, and distract and redirect enemies with your main weapon. (I wish there were more people being expert on these. I feel I still have a lot to learn about these :,( )
I've had this problem since all my weapons had bad specials and weak/nonlethal bombs so I never was able to figure out how to really use them until i picked up shot, so this video was very helpful for me, thanks!
I started with this new game and immediately picked up flingza, trislosh, and machine. All I knew about bombs was throw fizzy for paint and pray you get lucky with a kill. Recently I decided to branch out with weapons and it's been difficult knowing how much is "the right amount" when it comes to throwing bombs.
I couldn't stop looking at the water in the distance defying the rules of time as everything around it stops. XD I'm guilty of throwing bombs randomly but it is usually with the intention of being a distraction or general disruption and not specifically to control a spot/get a splat. One of my main tactics is using Suction Bombs on the pillar in Tower Control right above where I'm hiding or in the direction the tower is going and I find it quite reliable, I've even gotten quad kills using the method. Because Splat Bombs roll and are therefore more unpredictable than other bombs, I usually try to throw them where I can see a teammate is up against an enemy, a little helping hand if I know my weapon hasn't got the offensive capabilities to help win the fight (for example a Jr. or Aerospray).
Great advice, I love the feeling to put a bomb in front of a player that is shooting from higher ground and then instantly swap focus to the next enemy (as long as your team is near), either they keep shooting or move forward and splat, or they jump down in my line of fire. :D
Recently I keep running right into well placed splat bombs, meanwhile I usually just toss them in the direction of an enemy and hope something happens. I'll definitely need to practice using them better (including figuring out where to throw inkstrikes). This also shows me why stuff like sprinkler or mist are not considered as good for some weapons
Emil also threw a torp and your bomb only really covered the tracks further back, pretty sure that torpedo from him covered more, think that wasn't a greatest example considering the same outcome would have happened with Emil and the opponent. Fellas, the most important tip with bombs is they are your second teammate you can rely on for a quick burst of damage, use it to pincer people between bomb and your main weapon especially corridors, roll it at your feet during a retreat to create space, and roll or stick bombs around tight corners and bottlenecks to deny space, you can even roll splat bombs off ledges to reduce fuse time but they only explode once in contact with the floor so you can surprise ppl you suspect camping you below with auctions ability to stick you can place em in weird locations where the enemy might have a harder time noticing it, as such try to place em more on walls than the floor but that's all situation dependent. Happy Splatting ya'll.
Easiest is when you throw it on one side of the tower and shoot on the other, since everyone on the enemy team on the tower is now moved to one side, it's easy kills and possibly even control of the tower
Jr players use lots of bombs because they have a large ink tank and not as excellent accuracy or fire rate. They're generally pretty good at placement. Their problem isn't that they don't know how to place bombs
In short, lethal bombs - particularly Splat and Suction Bombs - are a quick means of area denial. If an opponent is closing in on you, drop a Splat or Suction Bomb to buy time and space to escape - via Super Jumping if necessary. If an opposing charger user is on a great sniping location, then a well-thrown bomb (while they are not checking on you) will displace them for a while. If, as in this video, you want to restrain an opponent's movement, then a bomb can limit their options.
I love the dualie squelchers because I can chuck a bomb behind an enemy and then force them backwards with the range of my squelchers. Bombs also work really well when facing a charger who is in a place that either gets them killed if they stay around the bomb or they get forced into the middle of the battle field where they become vulnerable.
Just note that truly great charger players are incorporating a little intensify action and do squid rolls with a charge hold letting them punish liberal bomb use
@@dylantoney6971 no they arent. intensify action is actually useless on chargers. please elaborate why you would *assume* that charger players are using it.
@@iknowwhereyoulive618 I have an XP of 2300 on most modes, 2400 on zones. I use chargers. I'd say just under half of the chargers I fight use one or two subs of intensify action. This allows them to do faster and more consistent squid rolls and escape tougher situation. Its not an assumption. Might not hold up completely on high level competitive play, but that's not relevant right now. I don't think so anyways.
@@dylantoney6971 the only effect intensify action has on squid rolls is making consecutive squid rolls less prone to "staling", or getting slower as you do them over and over. it does not, like many people say, make you able to squid roll earlier or anything.

one of my favorite places to chuck suction bombs is on Hagglefish splatzones. People always take cover in the corners of the cover from the crossfire. If you put the bomb in those corners, they either move or die. If they back up you can see them on the flank. If they move into the crossfire you can nail them.
I've been trying to figure out angles to throw specifically to box in the other player I'm engaging, and I still have mixed results. I think the only option that I have at the moment is to bite the bullet, and jump into ranked, play some matches, and regardless of win/loss ratio, try to identify what to change, and come back to your channel for some tips.
I think this also plays into the anger you sometimes get when you die to a bomb because you think “wow they got so lucky it’s unfair” when in reality they are just better than you, which sounds bad but it encourages me at least to keep getting better instead of thinking everyone else is just lucky.
One of the reasons I play Ttek as a second main is because I really love hiding behind corners and rolling splat bombs across the floor. It’s like bowling for inklings, especially when you get two at the same time. If they ever put splat bomb on Tri again I would be an unstoppable force and that’s why they’re hiding it from me
I use the same idea with my tristrikes. even if no one is there at the moment, if i see them moving towards a key defending route/escape routes I throw them there trapping my opponents and forcing them to die or jump out. I think that this idea also can apply to booyah bombs, crab tank(but not as much), and super chumps.
Great video. As the player being bombed in this situation, what would you recommend they do to counter this? I find that I often end up dying to bombs that seem unavoidable. Would you say you usually have to respect bomb range as well as main weapon range? How does that playstyle work out for shorter-ranged weapons?
You really just need to respect the bomb's range yes, you get in a situation like this and you're already dead so avoid getting there in the first place. You can try crafty movement with squid rolls, though.
@@Kyrmana Correct. The player got a little too cocky and took an unnecessary risk. The torpedo user would easily catch them, and the other spawning teammates could take him out also if the first player failed to do so. He would have been better off playing safer or going into enemy territory with a teammate.
I'm kind of ass at this game but if there's one thing I've gotten VERY good it, it's precise bomb placement. Especially if I'm using a splat bomb weapon, a solid chunk of my kills come from putting bombs in the worst of positions for my opponents to deal with.
I LOVE throwing bombs behind snipers, then shooting at them to make them panic into backing up. The player camera does not give them much time to notice by the time it goes off, especially for anchors who are usually focused far forward. May not work for upper level play. But at S+0 it's still very effective.
I see Splatoon as like a game of chess, you want to plan your next few moves depending on what your opponent has chosen and act accordingly to work around or supress it head on.
Jr. Main and one of my favorite things to do in choke points is throw 2 splat bombs directly at 2 people standing next to each other, because they'll often panic and i'll get a double kill off of both them swimming into the other bomb. I'm guessing this happens cause in the spur of the moment they're trying to get away from the bomb without retreating, so they just instinctively swim to the side and into the other bomb.
I once threw a single Splat Bomb into a very narrow choke point on Sturgeon Shipyard in Rainmaker and splatted all 4 people with that one single bomb. I got a clean wipe, even after I'd gotten splatted. It's the best clip from this game I've ever gotten. I might upload it sometime, if anyone's interested.
as an inkbrush main (among other things) i can safely say i am also a splat bomb main. i feel way too vulnerable with the inkbrush nouveau because splat bombs are just so good
I have a weird thing where I randomly throw bombs and people walk into them one time I got a triple kill with one splat bomb I uploaded that clip to twitter
It's probably my most reliable kill option in the game. As a c rank brush main, it's my only range attack and people aren't that good at avoiding it. But damn. I try to yeet a bomb in a spot and it goes where I want. And it kills. Consistently. Why can't I aim like that with guns ??
