I love these! They put me in mind of your geode pours. I especially like the little bit of glitzy color in there, to give the feel of stone. I once had to paint the floor of a musical to look like woodgrain. That was interesting. It looked great, though.
I was looking for inspo for a box I want to paint. Thought this would be a great idea until I remembered I have 3 very nosy cats xD They would get the whole floor and every piece of furniture painted too if I tried xD
I love how you did the excess paint and used some on the wood and how the color just popped on it was just so amazing Johnny hope you are doing well and good
OMG when you swiped your drippings I was yelling NOOOOOOO! The drippings were beautiful as they were for pendants and earings. The boxes you did are nice by the way. I still can't get over the swiping. 😦
You’ve helped me a few times recently and so I thot I would ask you yet another lol, about this video you did last July pouring over a balsa wood box. You used spray paint before pouring. Everything I read says the paint won’t stick/bond to the spray paint. I’m lost. How have your boxes faired over these last many months? What can you say to help me to figure this one out.
What kind of tape are you using as I have painted many of these boxes but have one that has a heart cut out in the top to put a picture but don’t know how to cover up that part (if don’t all lots of paint will just drip down) into the box! Since paint on Dollar General wood I first sand it, then gesso it & then sand it a bit to even all out, dust off well but w this one just need a way to cover that heart space so paint can’t just go on the inside all drippy!
While I like the effect, it seems to me that you wasted a lot of paint. You mention using the drippings, but fail to show it. And what is the purpose of swiping through the drippings?
I did end up using quite a bit of paint, I wanted to ensure coverage of all 5 sides of both boxes. I always make more paint than I need (Its kinda a trademark of mine ;) )The drippings will be for another video I didnt want to sell the process short by doing a demonstration of that process when people came to this video for the boxes. I swiped through the drippings to create the cell effect you saw in the video. In hindsight I would have liked to leave half of it as it was but live and learn! Thank you for the conversation Dianne, if you have any other questions let me know. Hope to see you in the next video! Shhh its Lifesavers candies themed!
Sorry, thats a lot of wasted paint unless your using cheap mis-tints from Home Depot or Kelly-Moore. There's has to be an easier faux stone effect than this. Nice but wasteful.

What materials were used for this? What did you use to give it that iridescent look in the white? I love it!
Stunning results.
Fun idea Johnny!
Thank you, trying different things!! How have you been recently?

Great job. These look Awesome 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
So the lids of the boxes did not stick to the bottom box when you poured over it? Looks great!
They stuck a little bit, I used a razor to break the seal of them without damaging the boxes. Thanks Deb!
Good job!
Thank you! Cheers!
This was SO COOL!!!! I had to search for it since I missed clicking on the link in another of your videos lol!! Thank you for a wonderful video!! 🥰
Nice!
Very beautiful 🤩. Looking to do a metal box like this. Have you ever tried it?
NICEE 😍 Keep it up !

Very impressive! Have you already done a video showing how you use the paint skins?
Thank you Janet! Not yet but it’s in the works :)
Haha I have two wooden pine boxes of BOLLA I was going to try this 😊👍
Awesome! It was a lot of fun to make! I’ve been trying to think of different things to pour on besides canvas, any ideas?
OMG when you swiped your drippings I was yelling NOOOOOOO! The drippings were beautiful as they were for pendants and earings. The boxes you did are nice by the way. I still can't get over the swiping. 😦
Next time I will leave half not swiped and half swiped :P Thank you for watching!

I used a spray primer to get the boxes ready for painting. The boxes were a gift to my GF, they still look great :)
This is just what I needed.. awesome.. but what about the bottom of the box how to make sure its covered?
What kind of tape are you using as I have painted many of these boxes but have one that has a heart cut out in the top to put a picture but don’t know how to cover up that part (if don’t all lots of paint will just drip down) into the box!

What are you using for Phase 3 - the base coat x2? What are you pouring onto the box? Is that just white/black acrylic?
Was the black you first spayed on primer or just black spray paint?
Do you have a link to where you bought the boxes?
What protective finish did you use for the box?
Are you waiting until dry to separate top and bottom?
Hi Johnny, great pieces. How do you separate the lid from the box when the paint is dry? Regards, Gina Mac of Queensland, Australia. 😊❤️🙏🇦🇺🐨🎨
Remember the blue tape he applied first with the ends overlapping the side of the box. Pretty good spacer and easily removed.
Do you use wood glue in your as a paint medium 🤔
Do you pur car is on you paint after it dry .
what paint did you use
I'ma cry foul!! How did you get those boxes apart after pouring without pulling the paint off😳
So well done. Much waist of paint 🥺
Minute 2:33 - - - - OMG the round underneath!!!

There was waste, and it will be used to make pendants. It was a good time trying something new though! Thanks for the conversation
Did you use silicone? If so, you must have had to clean it off before varnishing yes?
