WHATTTT!! I was just listening to another video in the gym and on the way home and a little in the background of the shower and now you post another! I love your videos so far I’ve already watched 15+ and just came across your channel yesterday 🙌🏽
Haha what a coincidence, good timing it seems like! That's so awesome to hear, really glad that you're enjoying my videos Bahram! Thanks for the comment 👍
I made the MSR mistake last year by getting the Platinum, Gold, and Green all within a few months of each other. I made it work, but I definitely had to do a little more spending that I should have. Great video Daniel! Thanks for the great tips!
Yeah that's a pretty common thing to do and I've been guilty of similar things like that in the past too, but luckily I've managed to make it work too. Thanks so much!
I was determine to get into chase ecosystem this first quarter of 2022 and FINALLY got the Sapphire Preferred and working on that welcome offer. This puts me at 4/24 so will add another Chase next quarter. I'm thinking the CFF? 🤔 Solid video as always Daniel 🤙🏽💥
That’s exactly what I did too. As soon as my welcome bonus is done, I’m applying for CFF. I love the cellphone protection it offers. Some time down the road, I’ll get the UNL as well.
3a. (Corallary to 3) Have a backup plan for meeting MSR. Sucks if (for example) you have to return a large charge and have nothing to replace it. 9. Have an exit strategy ready. Trivial for something like the Freedom Flex. Important for something like AMEX Platinum.
This video made me think of product changing from OG Chase Freedom to Freedom Unlimited because my spending habits changed throughout the years. I spend most on drugstore purchases and I value those points a lot because I want use those points as cash back or even travel. I do also have my Chase United Gateway card for occasional travel and earning miles with it. If within a year works out, then I might end up upgrading to the Explorer card with $95 annual fee that gives more benefits. I don’t like some of the spending categories on the Explorer card because it doesn’t have a Gas spending category as the Gateway does (which I like) and other things that CSP offers as well that could’ve bring more to it. Thanks for the insightful video.
Good video ideas! And I would say go for the Freedom Flex first. No annual fee and tons of ways to earn points/cash back. Since there’s no fee, you can get it first and keep forever and then. Get Amex gold later if you want to. Both are great cards though but that’s what I would do if I’m able to qualify for both!
No one gets rich from credit card rewards, but they can get rich talking about it on UA-cam, haha. Another great video. I like how you seem to be genuinely honest about your content and often give great life advice on personal goals.
Haha there's money in credit cards no matter where you look! The companies make the most and the cardholders make the least, but it all comes from people that use credit cards the wrong way - even if they need to based on financial hardship. I hope to help change that in some small way with the info in my videos! But thanks so much for saying that James! Yeah I try to relate all of my topics on credit cards and personal finance back to my life and personal experience because habits and mindset play a huge role in all of this too. Thanks so much for watching! 👍
Yeah I think it actually was something that was in writing in Chase's terms in the past but now its removed. So its still very well know and wouldn't surprise me if Chase reps told you about it. Thanks for the comment Andrew!
I have the chase trifecta and I love it. But I kinda feel like I'm missing out on some other cards (opportunity cost). What are the best premium travel cards we can have, especially for lounge access and upgrades? Does it make sense to have more than one premium travel card?
It definitely can make sense to have more than one premium travel card, but only if the benefits outweigh the cost! It all depends on your own situation because its going to be different for everyone. For me the CSP and Amex Platinum work best to have both! I may add the Capital One Venture X later this year or next year too
I have the chase trifecta and im considering the venture x before the 100k bonus goes away. Multiple premium cards can be justified if you are getting positive value from each of them. The venture x is basically a free card with the $300 travel credit +10k anniversary bonus. For that reason, id say that is the ideal second premium card. It's also cheaper than any other and carries very simple, easy to track credits, so that strengthens it as a secondary card imo.
I’d like to say thank you thank you for your great contents that benefit me to build my credit journey from scratch. Keep up your good work! I won’t miss every single new video you posted 😉
"Will I use the card in year two, or does it become deadweight in my wallet with an annual fee that I cannot make go away with credits or other use?" That's my #1 question I ask myself. The worst thing to have is a credit card with an annual fee that you feel you just cannot use.
Cannibalizing your cards is a danger. How many cards do you want that earn value on food or one category? It's very easy to dilute your card values by having cards that do the same thing. We really need to think beyond those welcome bonuses. Also ask oneself, "how does the new card matchup with my catch-all card, or the card that earns the lowest value for non-earmarked spend in my wallet? Great video Danny. You're a star!
Yeah great points Scott! There can easily be some overlap for different cards so its important to take all of that into account! Thanks so much man, I really appreciate that 👍
Chase just screwed me. I just got the Southwest Priority about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday, I received a limited time offer to apply for the Southwest Plus and spend $5k and get the Companion Pass, but you can't have another Southwest card. WTF??? 😡 I called and they wouldn't offer me that bonus.
A lot of great things to consider! Especially if you want to get a new card and its going to take away from benefits from other cards and potentially make multiple cards not worth it anymore. Do you think you'll have a limit on the number of cards you have? Or it gives you more value, you'll get another one?
You talked about the welcome offers or bonus reward points, which are one time. Once you exhaust them, do all these cards bring the same value especially when you've split your purchases across multiple of them? Or do you simply close some of them (which could hurt the credit score)?
Another great video Daniel.👍 Does the Chase 5/24 rule just count credit cards or all new credit lines? For instance a car loan? I've heard a lot about 5/24 but never heard anyone discuss this.
Inquires doesn’t count, based on my relationship with Chase. 5/24 rule starts counting when you accept and activate the credit card trade line from any bank issuer and will report that a few days after on your credit report. Suppose that I have 2 cards that are opened for more than 24 months, then my end result is 0 opened credit cards in the last 24 months. I’m not sure 5/24 rules applies to loans, but they would be looking after credit cards most of the time.
Thanks Eric and thanks for your comment as well Rodrigo! So based on my experience and my understanding, it is only personal credit card accounts (and select business credit card accounts with certain issuers) that will count towards 5/24 status. Car loans or other credit lines do not count towards this, even though they will still show up as new hard credit inquiries on your report. I recently had some hard inquiries from a car loan on my report back in September last year which would have put me well over 5/24. But only a couple of months later I was approved for the Chase Freedom Flex because for credit card accounts, I was under 5/24
Hi Daniel, I’m from London. If only I understood about credit sooner 🤦♂️ my credit score at the moment is fair. I’ve just been approved my first credit card with Capital One. I will shoot for between 1% - 10% credit utilisation. In the next 3-4 months I would like to apply for an American Express credit card. My aim is to apply for a mortgage for my first home next year, so hopefully by planting the seeds now, I will reap the rewards and have a good credit score 👍 Cheers Daniel and thank you for your informative videos
@@CheekyBird790 Hi Boss Brogan, Thank you for the advice! On waiting 12 months, of course that makes sense. But on the flip side, will I not be reducing my overall credit history lifespan by adding a new credit card/credit limit in 12 months rather than 3 months?? Cheers
I am considering over four different credit cards, with two being my primary options and the remaining two serving as backups in case my initial choices are declined. Would you recommend submitting all the applications concurrently for approval, or should I be concerned that applying for all four cards at once might result in four individual hard inquiries on my credit report? I'm worried about my credit score being negatively impacted four times, even though the applications are made within the same 24-hour period.
I just got into credit cards last year and I started with the sapphire preferred and now have the freedom unlimited. Probably going to open the flex next month but i'm tempted to get the venture x. Is this a bad decision to not fully utilize 5/24 before getting the venture x
I would say that if I was in that situation, I would go with the Freedom Flex first to take advantage of 5/24 because the Venture X isn't going anywhere. But if you have a trip you want to take maybe this summer that you want to use 100,000 Capital One miles from the Venture X to book, then getting the Venture X now might be more better to go with soon as well. So totally up to you, but I personally would go Flex then Venture X to maximize value from 5/24

Curious as to your thoughts on the Navy Federal More Rewards AMEX for those of us who are eligible for Navy Federal cards. I had the Navy Federal Platinum card which has no perks other than a very nice low interest rate for a credit card but I don’t need that at this stage in my life so I product switched to the NFCU More Rewards AMEX card with a $25k limit.
