Hazbin Hotel is an American adult animated musical comedy television series created by Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano. The series revolves around Charlie Morningstar, princess of Hell, on her quest to find a way for sinners to be "rehabilitated" and allowed into Heaven, via her "Hazbin Hotel", as an alternative to Heaven's annual "Extermination" of souls due to Hell's overpopulation. The series is produced by independent entertainment company A24 and animation studio Bento Box Entertainment, in collaboration with Amazon Studios.

LOVED IT! Specifically the songs! Hell is forever is My favorite
I’m so surprised on how much I love this show! I’m obsessed with the songs, been listening to them all on repeat for the past few weeks, but I also love the story and the characters. I’m looking forward to season 2!
I think you’re criticisms are valid and what I hear from everyone else. But now that you mentioned it you need to review Helluva boss
Honestly love it. Will say S1 feels a little experimental but I think that will change S2. They probably wanted to see how the show would go first
I love HB & HH buuuut... In HB they give a lot more screen time to the characters to be fleshed out and explore their world and their dynamics. The first season of HH should have at least 5 more episodes and take things at a slower pace.
Here's a crazy fun fact. Blake Roman, Angel's VA, has never voice acted before. Everyone else on the lead cast was a big name, and by comparison Blake was a nobody and he just KILLED it.
Really? That's crazy, hopefully this is the start of an amazing voice acting career for him.
@@Nicky2414 his roles before this were a few short films and a small broadway show called Harmony. I recently learned he also has a Soundcloud with some AMAZING acoustic songs, highly recommend if you like that stuff.
Mimzy's voice actress also appeared in Steven universe as Spinel.
That's crazy! Hopefully he gets more work cause he's great!
@@estebangutierrez160holy shit I never realized this
I love how people's main complaint on Hazbin hotel is that we wanted MORE episodes about it. Like this is good, but what would be better? Even MORE of Hazbin Hotel.
It seems to be an issue with most streaming services as of late. Either they commission only 8 episodes in total a season, or they make a whole bunch of episodes and divide them up into so-called “seasons”. And if that first season fails to impress, it’s automatically given the boot.
Yeah my thing was, that the hell is going on at first, because you can't deny, it does not do a very good job at explaining the rules to ppl who didn't see the pilot. It's like Wait if hell is forever why are you killing them again? Why did you think the demons would be able to rise up and over throw heaven? And wait what's with characters like Allister, the overlords, why do they have so much power, is it official, we later learn know Satan didn't even know who Allister was. Lute mentioned Hellborn kind, is Allister and all the other overlords Hellborn? No they're human, but then how did they become overlords, what are the rewards for it, what are the stakes, how do you maintain power, collecting souls? Etc. how do we tell how old a person's age is, can demons have kids in hell, etc. I'll admit the first 4 episodes I wasn't enjoying it, cause they'r ejust throwing so much stuff at you all at once. And there are just a few important things that aren't explained, some later get explanations, some they're clearly keeping for season 2. But it's hard to get invested in the characters or story without good stakes, and its hard to know stakes without knowing rules. I think it would of been better if they started from scratch forgetting the pilot. And used the monoluge in the beginning to explain how hell and heaven works, would of added a lot, and maybe have Charlie being Satan's daughter be a twist. My friend explained to me, that the creator wanted 12 episodes and they only gave her 8, and she admitted that yeah without seeing helluva boss or the pilot it would be hard for you to understand and they didn't explain the rules very weill. But we do learn along the way even if the pacing was off, and I think the first few episodes are more enjoyable if you go back and rewatch it after the end.
Its honestly its primary issue, that it went through stuff so fast, and didn't give time for rumination. Honestly, I think a spin off season that is done in like an adventure time format would greatly help it out. 8 or so 2 11 minute episodes of the times between the first and last episode of the first season. No big musical numbers.
The best criticism really “we wanted more episodes and not rush thru ur arcs because we love it @
That's a good problem to have!
Im still suprised a youtube pilot even got a full blown series. They're usually just something you'll never see go further
im more supprised that UA-cam is ok with Heluva boss and not with Hazbin hotel..
@@pheonixfire9517 youtube is a strange thing. It has no idea how to do anything right. As long as it gives them a lot money, they can ignore policies. I mean have you seen naked yoga?
I think the "problem" with helluvaboss is that hazbin is technically the first project anf Hell is the spinoff that weirdly came out first.
So, even when we have hazbin just recently, the ideas and takes and themes, etc were more polished / explored for the spinoff
@@pheonixfire9517 Was it that UA-cam wasn't ok with Hazbin Hotel or that Viv was seeking a more professional production for Hazbin? I was under the impression that she was producing Helluva Boss as a sidepiece while working on getting Hazbin launched.
@@Kandarako They're already recording the voice acting for season 2, so I'm hoping that the next season will have a more fleshed-out story.
Let's be real. I gotta say enjoying Hazbin Hotel has been SO MUCH EASIER without using Twitter. A show dealing with characters in hell doing depraved shit was always going to spark controversy. But honestly, Twitter could find the purest and most innocent thing in the world and make it out to be a crime against humanity. Its all so tiring.
The day Twitter actually stops just complaining about everything and anything for any reason they see fit will be the day hell freezes over
Precisely the reason why I don't have twitter.
@@tonybippitykayeKinda odd to say, given that one of the circles of Hell is literally frozen over.

You should apply this mentality on everything really, the internet does ruin the enjoyment of stuff
Didn't expect you to cover this one. But I'm glad that you're looking into Vivienne Medranos work. The songs are easily the best part of this!
Both songs from episode 4 are my favorites, and the fact that Blake Roman never voice acted before still blows me away.

Honestly the only, ONLY problem I had with this show was the pacing. And while I understand why they had to go so fast pace it's definitely to it's detriment.
Ya I’d have to see if I could find the interview again but apparently Viv planned for 22 episodes but going to Amazon Prime I guess she was forced into their 8 episodes a season model which begs the question of why even go to prime?
Was it A24 forcing it on the show to be on Amazon Prime or was Viv in one of those situations where there was no other choice
@@DarkKnightofAnime A24 is partners with Amazon Prime so it was mot likely A24's decision
Yeah I 100% had that same problem too, they didn't explain the rules very well or at all in some cases, and I'm having a hard time getting invested at 1st cause I'm trying to figure out what is what and how things work. A good story needs to have stakes and for a show like this you can't get invested in the stakes without knowing the rules. And me trying to figure out wth was going on, made me miss some things at first and not enjoy them till I went back and rewatched it.
I'm hoping that Amazon gives them more episodes for season 2.
@@DarkKnightofAnimeHazbin Hotel was picked up with no distributer by A24, the reason it was kept to 8 episodes and a tight 22 minutes is to make it more marketable. Amazon just happened to be the one it ended up on in the end. I think everyone agreed that was a mistake now, hopefully they won’t be limited by the moving forward but it is a shame this season will always be handicapped by that decision.
I never though you would look at this show but I'm so glad you did. A24 definitely should've given Vivienne and her team more episodes for better pacing, but The show is still great, and the songs are definitely best part. The fact that this all came from a UA-cam pilot is still a great achievement. I can't wait for season two, and I hope you like Viv's other work.
I couldn't agree more.
I hope season 2 has at least 12 episodes.
I agree! I want more! The songs are so good!
@@genjis5155 agreed
Agreed. Honestly the way it was paced it felt like they were promised more episodes but then they got cut, so they had to streamline the plot they developed and that meant removing a lot of the hotel. I really hope there’s more next season.
Hazbin Hotel was basically a classic Disney Renaissance film mixed with The Good Place.
Wow, that's the closest description
Yes! I love that description!
I agree!
Its looks likes a 15 year old who doodled in math class and learned drawing through tumblr tutorials got access to the team who made Gravity Falls moreso than anywhere close to Disney renaissance films. The only similarities is that they both have musical numbers.
At least the good place comparison was on point.
And Cartoon Network’s edgy animation style
So many people love to crìticize Hazbin Hotel, not nearly as many offer proper CONSTRUCTIVE criticism like Doug did here.
Also a Nostalgia Critic episode on either the pilot or Helluva Boss would be AMAZING.
Yes! I concur!
He did a review on hazbin pilot already
@@neokamenrider He DID? Link please
Fuck that, the fucking fandom is shit
He did a Dark Toons on Hazbin, I believe.
I think it is almost universally agreed that the pace felt a bit rushed, and yeah, most people agree that pressure from the network was responsible. As for exploring the different ways the hotel would redeem sinners, there's a little problem with that: Charlie, as much as she truly sincerely wants to help others, honestly doesn't have the faintest idea what she is doing. I mean, not even camping-counselor-in-training level. It would be amazing to see what a professional psychologist could do with the powers of Hell. but down there, you are more likely to get Hannibal Lecter than anyone actually decent.
Yeah that’s what my thoughts were when he mention that idea as well. I find that the humour really comes from the fact that she thinks a few trust exercises is going to redeem a demon from hell 😂
To be fair, they already have Hannibal there. Just a more showman one.
I think that could be a future plot line like Charlie tryring for so long to redeem sinners but with very few ones in comparison with all of hell possibly the words from Lucifer in the first season could come out: "These people are given the gift of free Will and look what they did with It"
I got annoyed at times that Charlie clearly had no idea what she was doing--and the pilot made it even worse, since she clearly didn't know how to run a hotel, either.
On the other hand, she does manage the important thing of giving people a space to be better if they want to, and for an ACTUAL counselor to grow into it. Because in Hell, of course the best counselor is actually the bartender. If HUSK gets more room to implement his own experience with people, and the new hotel devoted space to it, they could easily grow into the sort of thing Doug wanted to see. Give the hotel itself development along with the characters.
Yeah, it wasn't something I thought about until Doug mentioned it, because Charlie so clearly has the heart, but not the experience and she actively doesn't use many of the resources she COULD use.
Like, we rarely see her use her magic for anything, and the hotel was a dump, so of course everyone stayed in the lounge.
Now that the Hotel is rebuilt, I'm curious if they will be doing more with the powers of hell.
I feel like this first season wanted to get everything they could done in case they never got signed for a second season. If it got dropped they have a full story told. But with only 8 episodes that causes huge pacing oddities/problems.
Now that they for sure have a second season, i believe they can slow down and play around with more elements. Helluva boss kinda had something similar. First season is a lot of setups and weird pacing. Second season slows way down and goes deep into personal relationships and builds on ideas already established.
They did fantastic with what they had and they told the story perfectly fine in the episodes they were given.
I think with the success of the first season the second season will have much more room to breathe
Even if they weren’t renewed they could’ve continued the story on their UA-cam channel
@@CriticsCupofficial not really because they wouldn't be able to make money off it

Disney, these songs are catchier than the songs in Wish and The Little Mermaid remake. You guys should be worried
Not a high bar
Wish was the very first animated Disney Princess movie that I had absolutely no interest watching. They took Lin Manuel Miranda's musical style without keeping any of the talent or musical knowledge.
@@MsAliciaRL The songs weren’t by Lin or Alan Menken which explains why they were so terrible
Don't worry, soon all will be Disney. Resistance is futile.
In regards to the tunes, hardly anything from Disney has been memorable since the Renaissance Era ended. They had big and small names composing music/lyrics and full blown orchestras performing it. More people can hum and sing the entire soundtrack of _Lion King_ (1, 2, and 1½) but not remember anything about _Wish_ whether or not they saw it.
Welcome to the hotel Doug, your rooms already set up….
Watch it just be his Nostalgia Critic room. So he's stuck just doing more episodes of Nostalgia Critic, just without his actors so he has to rely on folks like Angel and Charlie for skits.
*"My daughter wants to see meeeeeeee!!!"* *"Take that depression!!!"*
The main complaint I see many people say is that it just wasn't given enough episodes to do what it wanted to.
In my opinion, if THAT'S the main complaint, then it's a good show.
I do see why they only gave it 8 episodes, since it's sort of one of a kind, so they're testing the waters. But with the HUGE success of season one, they HAVE to give season 2 more episodes.
Honestly, i think breaking bad did the same thing first season as a test and then the rest of the seasons had more episodes, i believe.
@@hydronichydra875 the thing is breaking bad knew it couldn't do everything it wanted in season 1. While I feel this show wanted to do everything in case they didn't get renewed. It's still a good show don't get me wrong but I feel
It kinda hurt the plot and characters because we can't really take anything in for too long.
"Loser, Baby" song is easily my favorite of this season. When I found out that Keith David was going to be on this show, it was almost certain that he would sing the best song.
Doug, you should try to do a NC review of Helluva Boss. You could try to get Brandon Rodgers to guest star! It be frikking Hilarious!

@@wolftitanreading5308 Doesn't he also have a Blitzo puppet? I know he has used one for a few skits on his own channel. I mean why not use that on the Nostalgia Critic. I mean just start the episode with Critic doing something at the studio with Blitzo just appearing trying to kill him cause some someone else like IDK Tamara went to Hell and paid Blitzo to do so.
Rest all You need Doug. Hope You get better soon
As for the Pacing/Episodes, Doug:
There was a Interview. Apparently Viv planned for 22 episodes but going to Amazon Prime I guess she was forced into their 8 episodes a season model which begs the question of why even go to prime?
Was it A24 forcing it on the show to be on Amazon Prime or was Viv in one of those situations where there was no other choice? Anyway it's pretty frustrating, knowing we COULD have gotten 22 instead of 8 with better Pacing 😮💨
Well A24 seemingly offered a bid to produce the show first which Viv accepted. A24 is seemingly also a studio that allows a lot of artistic freedom, so they probably were also good with Viv's idea for an episode count. But It's A24 who finds a network that wants to pick up and finance their projects. And Hazbin Hotel was a challenge. Viv has stated that its a show that wasn't really wanted in the industry, so I guess Prime's offer for an 8 episode season was simply the best they could get.
@@drdewott9154 im Not discounting that. Im Happy, that we finally got it. Verry Happy, in Fact ☺️.
But Doug was complaining about Pacing and it "Should" (at least in theory/Storyboard) Not have been a Problem with 22 Episodes.
Im Just frustrated, that we didn't get more.
It's Like the Portal Games Franchise. Fist was a Master piece. Second also was a Master piece. And they have Plans for a third, but won't make it, despite having the Resources, experience, and monetary incentive, to DO IT.

I absolutely adore this show. Easily one of my favorite adult animated series out there. It has a unique art style that doesn’t just feel like another Family Guy knockoff, phenomenal voice acting, and incredible music that I haven’t stopped listening to since the show premiered. It’s just refreshing to see something like this come onto the adult animation scene, and it’s just awesome to see a UA-cam pilot get so much success.

Best part it uses Kids Show Animation style and not the usual same animation style as the other Adult Shows such a nice change of pace it reminds me of Don Bluth movie animation and Villainous.
Just so you know. Angel Dust’s sister is in heaven and that’s part of the reason he gave redemption a shot
When he made that thumbnail, he talked... just... LIKE... THIS!!!!
I was looking forward to seeing many different characters seek redemption and was a little disappointed it didn’t explore more of that.
Honestly I give this a 9/10. Everything about this is perfect the animation, the story, the charai, the songs. But my one tiny gripe is the pacing, it needed two more episodes to really explore everything and better flesh out what it set up. Aside from that it's definitely the best animation has to offer

I love both Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. I fell in love with these series after watching the pilots years ago and the animation and character design is just so appealing to me. I also listen to the songs all the time.
One thing that I would've liked to see in this long awaited Hazbin Hotel series is a bit more time to develop the characters and enviroment further. It's too bad they didn't get a few more episodes to do so. Helluva Boss can take as many as they want to develop something.
Another advantage with Helluva Boss is that they don't have to be bound to a specific time per episode so the team can just do what needs to be done and make it flow just as they want it. They don't need to cut or add to fit a decided time in the same way.
That being said, both series are amazing and I'm so excited to see the continued story of them.
ya know? IMho the first episode after Sir Pentious joins, if the show hadn't been forced to rush, Charlie should've sat down all the sinners at the Hotel to tell "their story" what they did in life, why they think they ended up in Hell, whattthey've been doing since then, etc.
Most people didn'T flollow the sprinkling around of the character backstories in the streams etc.And Vaggie originally was said to be a Salvadoran.... woman of negotiable affections... Which probably isn't the case anymore.

Literally every serious reviewer I've seen cover this show has said some variation of "needed more episodes" and I wholeheartedly agree.
I loved how deliberate Alistor is in how he speaks. His words are carefully spoken. Especially with Stayed Gone he paces his words so solid. That moment in episode 7 is frozen in my brain:
"I know something you don't know."
It's almost sung.
You know what I'm with you with the different rooms cuz it be like that one scene in yellow submarine that each of the doors is like a different dimension
I think my favorite thing from this review is the "If you've watched Helluva Boss, you might be not super into Hazbin."
I know Doug knows nothing about the fandom and stuff, but people *eat this universes story up* anything related to the Hellaverse to those that enjoy it will love it more than likely.
Been a fan of Vivienne since early 2015 after seeing her fan animated music video of Die Young. Crazy that it's been that long.
But anyway, much like everyone else my only complaint is the fast pacing and desire for even more episodes.
That's a good point about the inside of the hotel, but I think it adds to the feeling of Charlie being in over her head and having more of a heartfelt wish than an actual plan, which is adorably/wonderfully naive and precious. Having to figure out facilities to add to make it happen and the painful learning experience is half the fun, yeah?

I'm glad you watched both shows and enjoyed them. Thanks for giving them a chance.
I'm totally thrilled that you did some coverage of this series, I had always wondered if you've caught Vivienne's work and your take of it. That said, as someone who was totally on board with this world and these characters from the pilot and following Helluva Boss, I was like many who were really nervous and scared of what would come from Hazbin Hotel being taken in by an actual production studio. When I finally watched it, I had some things I wasn't fully on board with (like some of the redesigns of characters, Charlie in particular), I was able to let those small things not impact my overall enjoyment of what was given. I feel they did do a little on the "safe" side with parts, maybe because they studio wasn't too sure how well it'd be received so they condensed elements and cut sets out to keep costs down, who knows. In the end, with how the series ended its first season and things that happen there I feel that going forward they may have more confidence to expand the sets to include more rooms in the hotel, or even further flesh out the areas of Heaven and Hell that are the main stages for these stories. All in all I loved the series, and I continue love Helluva Boss as I see it as not only something that, like you mentioned, isn't as worried about "playing it safe" but also is clearly trying to tell a very different story with very different characters. When season 2 is officially wrapped on Helluva Boss I'd love to hear your take on the series as a whole up to that point. All the best from a long time fan.
Didn't expect you to do a video on this show, and I love that you're looking in Viviennes work.
Wasn’t excepting you to cover this show , good thing !!!
surprised nothing was said about how there's too many characters
and how some just appear and then disappear
velvet of the V's sings and talks about killing the angels but she's just gone and doesn't have any relevance in the story even though at the end the main cast is waging a war on angels
camilla carmine doesn't do anything and isn't involved with the main cast at all, she just sings to vaggie trains her and then she's gone
and about others saying that "it's not good because they only had 8 episodes" is sort of not true, you can still have good stories in a short amount of time, helluva boss literally does this in almost less episodes, so they just really cramed to much into all these episodes
the songs are good, but having them mainly be about character who we don't really know or have gotten the time to care about makes it fall flat, I remember loser baby because that whole episode was just about angel dust and his character and it really worked, ps husker also just doesn't do anything after this both characters literally feel the same after that episode
I have not seen anything else from this production studio (yet). That being said, I absolutely loved it! The characters, style, humor, drama animation, music, it's all there. Some pacing issues and mot enough development of the actual rehabilitation keep me from total investment. But im going to be showing this show to all my friends!
I just finished the season a week ago and am in love with it. The fact that they got Alex Brightman (Dewey Finn in School of rock the musical and Beetlegeuse in Beetlejuice the musical) to voice two characters (he also voices a character in Helluva Boss) That man is literally the Jack Black of Broadway and can do no wrong. Dude always puts a thousand percent in everything he does, and never disappoints.
I thought for sure he was going to say at least something about the cursing. Like “just so you know they curse a LOT.” And be done with it
Maybe because unlike sensitive twitter followers, Doug knows theres ton of adult animated shows that does the exact same thing.
This criticism is tiring.

In the begining, Charlie doesn't quite know what she's doing yet. All she knows is a base idea of what she needs to do, so she doesn't realise that simple activities won't be enough to fully redeem sinners.
I think this because in the finale of the show, they rebuild a brand new hotel that's bigger and fancier. I think THIS is going to be a bit more like the hotel you imangined. One that's more equipped and ready to actually tackle the sinners' ways of acting and thinking.
I feel like the animation for the Hazbin Hotel Pilot was a lot smoother. There were more frames and the characters didn’t feel as stiff, which made it more enjoyable to watch for me. I also prefer the ever so slightly more muted colors of the pilot
I should add that just the UA-cam pilot was worked on for WAYYY more time than each episode of the show which is probably why
Yeah the animation in the show looks stiff and less smooth. And the colors are so vibrant with so much red it hurts my eyes.
@@CipherRage-tp5ql
It reminds me of the animation style of kids shows and Don Bluth movies.
I became obsessed with this show thanks to you reviewing the pilot Doug, the amount I've spent on merch is ridiculous lol. I love all the characters but it is a tie between Angel and Husk for my favourite. The soundtrack is phenomenal, have had it on loop in my car. My favourite song is Loser Baby. It would've been great to have more episodes in this season but I love what we have got so far. Helluva Boss is really fun but Hazbin personally spoke to me more.

Doug! Which was Your favorite Song? Mine is hell is forever!🔥
Mine is Hideaway
Loser Baby~!
The Loser song without a doubt!
You didnt know
More than anything
I totally get what you mean. I love both Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. And there are slightly different tones to both.
I can't wait to see more from Viv in general both shows are just something we just seem to need more of, and I'm here for it.
It is VERY easy to get attached to the characters in this show. Even the characters that don't get as much screen time (like Sir Pentious) end up becoming somehow you really grow to like. That might be one of Vivziepop's strenghts: creating characters with odd designs that somehow seem so relatable.
@@PolskaQueen- This sounds a lot like "I'm way too smarter than other people for not being hypnotized like them" XD
Get off your high horse. If it's not for you, it's not for you, the beauty of art is that it's extremely subjective. You believing that you're somehow better than others because you don't like it like them shows only your insecurities XD

My biggest problem with the show was how dissonant it felt to see how Charlie participated in the war. I expected much more reluctance from her to have a violent conflict with heaven, especially considering her relationship with Vaggie.
Also, the show moved WAY too fast! It felt like we skipped to the ending of season 2 or 3 suddenly.
Agreed, if they saved it for a season 2 or 3, it would’ve fit better.
@@IamaPERSON There's gonna be a season 2 but, for record, a season 3 is highly doubtful. With the way people have been treating animated shows for the last few years. Infinity train. Inside job. The owl house.
@@CipherRage-tp5ql There will be at the very least 3 seasons. Prime is not gonna abandon HH after 1st season's huge success. Most popular video on Prime's youtube channel is already a HH song, and that channel is 12 years old. People love the show and Prime loves money. Everyone wins.
@@wanderkindhatter6798 Prime is just the host streaming service. It's A24 who calls the shots in terms of the show actually getting more episodes and seasons.

Yeah and I love Hazbin Hotel and I'm excited for Hazbin Hotel Season 2 people need to understand you can't expect beginners to get everything done.
I have never seen this show, but I've seen covers and animatics of it EVERYWHERE. This review has finally convinced me to give it a chance. I hope I like it as much as so many people do!
Interestingly, I have to agree with you on the whole Helluva Boss thing.
I actually watched the Helluva Bosss series this month (Yes, I'm that late to the party) and I fell in love with it after and I can only hope that Hazbin grows and gets better as the series goes on.
I agree with that as well. But one of my things is like.Of course, they're gonna be similar but a little different. They're in the same world.Just different parts of it. I like them both, equally.
@@theplaguegamer6216On that, I can agree with you!
@@AttemptedVoicesI'm a Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel Fan.😁
@@rainbowtoyfunrandomess1982Same! Hell, I've started doing covers because of how much I loved it.
@@AttemptedVoices Really? That's awesome!🤩
Ooh really didn’t expect you to do this! I’m so into this fandom!! I love this show and the sister series.
thanks for this, the pilot was fun and enjoyable, had no idea
they made more episodes
I like this show, but I still love Helluva Boss more. Helluva Boss is the spin-off of Hazbin Hotel and is even set in the same Ring as Hazbin which is the Pride Ring. Unlike Hazbin however, Helluva Boss does advantage of exploring the other rings and occasionally Earth. I also heard that Villainous is good too.
I love both of this shows but I see your point of view, I hope s2 has better pacing. But I’m super excited
I literally looked up to see if you made a review on this earlier and then an hour later I got a notification for this video
I appreciate you doing this and love that you enjoyed it so much.
I think the minimal use of the hotel overall was an attempt to keep things focused and grounded. So that they could build up to the epic battle.
I do agree though that it would be fun to see more unique rooms and situations in the hotel. Hopefully in season 2 they can take some risks and push the boundaries a little more on the visuals.
It seems to me like there's potential for the plot in season 2 to be more personal and less "world is ending". So who knows?
Only grievances was the replacement of the original VAs
Especially JOE 🍳🥚😩
Original would not have worked for what she wanted to do with the music.
But the egg minions didn't have any singing roles, hence why replacing JOE's iconic voice is more devastating
personally I found Stamper getting replaced to kill a lot of the appeal of Sir pentious (he was my favourite character in the pilot)
@Xenomorthian I think that Stamper was also replaced because he was canceled. Not sure why though. Besides, I can't say no to more Alex Brightman
HAZBIN! HAZBIN! HAZBIN! This show deserves a full nostalgia critic video.
Being a musical theatre person and loving UA-cam creators, this show was such a delight. I love how it original it is, I love the characters, and the songs are just so catchy. I’m so glad Vivienne and this team are getting this recognition and I really hope more UA-cam creators get this same spotlight. I also really hope we get a crossover between Hazbin and Helluva Boss cause I think it would be fantastic seeing all the characters work off each other (especially Alastor and Stolas).
NC reviewing something Alex Brightman was in? A when worlds collide moment for me!
I am really glad you love this show as it is amazing and all the things going on, all the songs, the animation is great, all the subtle things going on in the background.. One of, if not my favorite, shows.. x Also, I'm kind of glad that they don't go too far with whats inside the Hotel or whats inside the rooms and bits as i think it would be abit TOO ott, with this show...
I do feel the same the songs feel like the were pushed in. I agree maybe have one song or even less.
my main complaint isn't even specifically Hazbin's issue, it's a streaming site complaint. I'm tired of seasons only consisting of eight episodes. Eight episodes isn't a season and it forces stories to rush when we could have benefited from some more world building/filler
Great review as always Doug. It is amusing to me that both the Hazbin Hotel pilot (10/28/19) and the Helluva Boss pilot (11/25/19) were released so close to each other. I have enjoyed both shows though for different things.
I do wish that Hazbin had more episodes because the pacing has definitely been slightly off but still very enjoyable. There’s also a few ear worms that won’t go away.
Agreed with the Helluva Boss point. Having watched that, it makes Hazbin Hotel look a bit worse in comparison, even if it's not really fair to compare.
Though I must add I ended up liking the characters a LOT more in Helluva Boss, so that also made me a bit disappointed in Hazbin.
Helluva Boss has a lot more episodes, so comparing them is not fair at all
@@WaltDevil060 Even comparing how I liked each cast after the first episode of each show, I still prefer the Helluva Boss cast a lot more.
Imagine if Doug Walker guest starred as a character in Hazbin Hotel as like a small cameo
That would be so cooooooool!
I've been so excited to see if your review was going to come out and here it is!!! I love the Broadway rep and the 2D animation appreciation. Can't wait for S2!!
Oh my gosh I'm so glad you enjoyed Helluva Boss!! I would love a whole review of that. More Hazbin being HB? Heck yeah I'm on board!!
Same here!
Thank you for reviewing this! I’ve seen Hazbin Hotel references around but wasn’t certain what it really was until I watched this video. After, I went to see the show and I love it so, so much! Again, thank you NC for recommending it.

Doug had to put that disclaimer there because he knows the fans are a bunch of rabid dogs. They have as much self control as a starving coyote at an All You Can Eat chicken buffet.
“They” so you’re not a fan?
Why did you click on this video if you don’t care about Hazbin?

THIS. Is on the road to being one of my favorite animated series of all time. 😆
Never clicked faster on a video in my life!😅
My advice is to rest, you've more than earned it
Dude thanks so much for watching these shows. Ive been following the creator Vivzipop since 2013 and have watched you since 2009. so to see you loving their work as well as seeing the rest of their stuff makes me so goddamn happy :)
While the opening narration was interesting, the show quickly devolves into "How Many Swears can we make these cute characters say?" I'm sure this is fine for the early adolescents or college age stoners, but I found it a pathetic waste of talent.
It could have been good, if it wasn't such a manic-paced mess.
Also really enjoyed the world building. I wish we had more episodes so we could do some more world building and get some more backstory for for main cast. How did Angel and Husk get in their contracts, we know vaguely but would have loved to see it.
Also obsessed with Alastair, I would love some more with him but also understand it seems like we're building to that.
Hope we see the rest of Charlie's family but also want to see Charlie find her power, think that'll be fun to see her come into her own.
Excited and can't wait for more!!!
I highly recommend you watch and review (if you haven’t already) Harley Quinn: The Animated Series
Holy shit he actually liked it❤
The songs in this series have been stuck in my head for days. “Hell is Forever” and “Loser Baby” are so good and catchy.
Btw did you ever watch Arcane? IMO, it’s one of the best animated shows in the last five years, so I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
So I am one who has seen photos of this all over my Facebook, completely confused, and only learning the title later, I quickly fell in love with it. The first season definitely feels like they are getting their foot in the door, but it needs more, and they hopefully plan to.
That all said, the pilot is nice to see, as it does add a little more
