Dad thinks that money justifies not spending time with daughter. And then him trying to show off his break dancing is lame. He turns his whole video into a PSA for break dancing. Plus the way he talks. His whole vibe is off putting. Even if the daughter made some of the stuff up. In the end she probably actually did feel abandoned.

His tone is terrible. He maybe continued to financially support his family but he doesn’t remember his daughter’s birthday. And he said the divorce was 70% his fault. To me the question of whether he “abandoned” his family or not really depends on if the parents were both unhappy and agreed to a divorce or if he just decided he was done and left without trying to make the marriage better.

The fact she was wearing a tee with her dad breakdancing on it, that seemed weird given what she’s making out. That he’s a sad & bad dad. That made me slightly suspicious of her motive. No, he wasn’t great at parenting. He deffo has some flaws. My dada did too - he definitely didn’t give me $600k in a college fund. But he wasn’t a total bastard.
No perfect parents exist. But was she just making things sounds worse for her followers and for fame? I’m just thinking okay, well she’s a screenwriter, she likes to create stories for a living… so I wonder about her motives.
Who to believe? It’s her life so whatever but maybe don’t just take one side in any situation.

I commented this on a diff vid about this situation, but I've gotten to the part that really pisses me off...
"I just lived down the street. Just a bike ride away." There is no way, if that was the case, that his children would feel abandoned.
How do I know this? My dad actually did move just down the road after he and my mom divorced. I have NEVER felt abandoned by him; I saw him everyday. There wasn't split custody, but he drove me to school every single day. When I had my learners permit, he'd pick me up and have me drive his car to my hs for just that little bit of extra practice. I was a drama kid in school, and he made sure to ALWAYS come to my plays/performances (unless it was like the school musical we'd put on for multiple nights in a row. He'd just come for the first and last shows)
I am the ripe ol age of 25 right now. I still see my dad regularly. It helps that I still live in the same city as both him and my mom. We had a tradition of him picking me up early from school to see whatever the newest marvel movie was. We still do that. The last one we saw all together, him, my brother, and I was Spiderman no way home lol. He's been in and out of hospital so we've postponed the outings for now.
Despite my dad struggling with mental illness (cptsd, bipolar, social anxiety), that man has NEVER ONCE forgotten my birthday. And he can't even spell my middlename right (tbf he's atrocious at spelling lol), but every year when my birthday is getting close, he's texting me asking what I was for a present and getting mad at me for not wanting anything. He's asking what kinda cake he should get me, if I want to go out for dinner or do something. Every year on my birthday he texts me the minute he wakes up to wish me a happy birthday and ask if he can call me.
And you know what? My mom didn't get 5 million or 15k a month in child support. It's not about the effing money. He'd buy me anything I needed without complaint. He put EFFORT into remaining in my life and being my father. I know I can count on him for anything. That's what happens when you're not a deadbeat; you'll be in regular enough contact that you won't forget their effing birthday.
Anyway this man just pisses me off so much. If you were a present dad, no one would say you were a deadbeat.

How is she going to act like he is such a bad dad yet text him practically everyday, get help to pay for her car, get $5000 as a starter fund to move to LA, have the dad as her cosigner on her LA apartment, continuously ask him for money, and it was her choice not to see him when he went to hang out with him. I'm a social worker and this man is your typical dad who can't come to the terms that he did in fact abandon his family. It looks like from what I've seen he only showed up for big events like bdays and graduation. Many parents who leave their children will often to do this as a way to make it seem to themselves and those around them that they are still a part of their child's life when they really aren't. They also believe child support is the same as being in their kids lives and will say they are a parent just for providing financial support. Mind you they rarely see their children. They usually blame the parent who is actually raising the kids on their own for everything. Everything he said and what I've seen come out about this tells me he is one of those people who pretend to be a parent when they honestly really have nothing to do with their children.

And from what I’ve seen I wouldn’t mind having him as my dad too they’ve done a lot of things together, things that I’ve always wanted to do. Many kids are brainwashed by their other parent too, to believe that they’re bad. Many people have spoken up about it. One of the biggest UA-camrs in my country had such mother. My feelings on this is that regardless of the details, the mood between these two is concerning. Particularly the dad should have been more mature about it and reached out to his daughter to talk about how she's felt all this time. She simply addressed her funny trauma and asked others to share if they had funny trauma. She was laughing and looking back at a time when it was hard for her but ended up being kind of funny. If you can’t laugh at the pain, then it will consume you. And since her dad refused to pay for therapy, she’s using her TikTok platform to interact with others, share her story and make a funny antidote. She didn’t ask for a response video from him, and to be honest, I think she painted him in a better light then he may actually have been in.
It sounds a lot like he sucks and is mostly selfish and concerned with himself and less about why his daughter might feel the way she does. He also dragged the siblings into this, which she specifically didn’t mention at all aside from to say it was a mom and 4 kids. His entire video was to passive aggressively state that he wasn’t a bad dad, Maddie and her siblings had every opportunity to take his $5,000,000 and walk down the sidewalk to his house in Illinois. And to smear the mother. He missed the point big time.
Now with that being said, I don’t know these people. But I am a child of divorce, my dad did abandon me and my mother to go be with the woman he cheated on her with, he raised that woman’s 2 kids while ignoring my brother and I for nearly 17 years. At his mothers funeral, my own father asked his brother who me and my brother were, because he didn’t recognize us. He didn’t pay child support and he didn’t ever use his visitations. He would say he was coming to pick me up, and I would sit on the couch in my shoes, backpack, and jacket, waiting for him to come. I’d fall asleep and wake up in my bed the next morning and he would have never showed or even called. So I know how it feels to be abandoned and how it feels to watch your dad walk away from your life to pursue other dreams and the confusion and anger that goes along with not understanding how the person who gave you life, can simply walk away and forget about you. I feel for Maddie. And to me, personally, when I speak on my past and what others have done to me, I don’t like it when other people try and defend their actions and say stuff like “this is a private matter” or “you should talk to them about this” or “you’re talking badly about your dad” because I don’t care? If the father in this doesn’t like that his daughter told people what he did and he doesn’t like that other people have an opinion on his actions, then he should have thought about that before he acted. Act better. Do better. Be better. And Maddie won’t have anything bad to say about you. If he had been a great dad, she wouldn’t have made that video. He’s just mad that everyone knows how much he sucks now.

100% got narcissistic/gaslighty vibes from the dad. My best friend has a parent who is a serious abusive narcissist and he sounds exactly like this guy. They have no problem lying at all, ESPECIALLY to save their own reputation. He's also exaggerating about his kids' success because narcissists only value their children based on their successes. It's almost like using your kids as trophies, like "I'm such a good parent, my kids are all very successful" even though it may be untrue. Narcissists do not allow for failure in their children's lives. It's all a facade. (I should mention I also have a psychology degree and have done a lot of research on narcissism)
Narcissists are very fake. Their whole world revolves around them even if it means hurting others, they don't care as they have very little empathy. We can see this as the dad completely dismissed his daughters feelings and then lied.
They are almost like actors in a play. Even his voice sounds like he's acting. Then at the end, he tries to draw positive attention through breakdancing on camera. It almost feels like he's taking this as a joke. Even though what Maddie posted was framed in a funny way, the truth behind it is a lot of pain. People don't just make up their parents abandoning them, that's a serious issue.

He strikes me as the kind of guy who’d go to one of those shoddy “X money was worth Y in year” websites and cough up some inaccurate result. I feel like she could've been exaggerating a bit to say he left the family in order to pursue breakdancing when the situation was probably a bit more complicated than that, but just the fact that he responded by making a UA-cam video instead of contacting her or her other family members to sort it out shows that their relationship is definitely not as good as he claims and all he cared about was defending his image.

At the end of the day we don't know these people. I will say this though: I will never trust a person with an American flag and a Bitcoin flag in the background. I will also say as someone who has worked in mental health and has their own family trauma that 9/10 if someone says their parent(s) completely switched the narrative and are delusional that's usually what it is. It's rare for there to be such an unhinged kid that compulsively lies about their actually decent family. Parents are adults age-wise but many do not have the emotional strength to face what damage they have done and apologize/change behaviors. And I say that as a person who has one parent like that and the other has at least tried and apologized. Both can exist but the latter statistically outweighs the other too often.

You don't have to (and shouldn't) bad mouth the absent/neglectful parent. As children get older, that parent's behavior will speak for itself. Kids catch on quick.

    • @KiPisMe
      @KiPisMe 7 місяців тому +4

Exactly! My kids are 20 and 17 and had stopped talking to their dad years ago. I never told them how bad he was, I covered for him, they never knew he was scary and abusive, they didn't know how much of a compulsive liar he was, how he would spend every last dollar and lie about where the money went, how much of a complete narcissist he is. I never had to tell them. As they grew up, they saw him for who he really is.
He still tells anyone who will listen how he is a great father and how I turned the kids against him.

I don’t care how much money he threw at them, he abandoned them. He wasn’t sharing custody like a good dad should. You don’t “visit” your kids, you raise them. This happens a lot with men, they leave and go pursue these careers and act like they did it all on their own when in reality, they couldn’t be what they are without the women who took on raising their kids full time…He’s also gaslighting the shit out of her.

    • @khills

Yeah, my father went down that delusional route in 2019 (gee wonder what could have fostered that) and we’ve maybe traded a dozen text messages since then, all very brief and meaningless happy new year’s stuff - he didn’t even bother calling me when I was hospitalized with sepsis, or on a multi-week PICC line with the kind of very hard to get antibiotic whose release has to be approved by multiple agencies sort of thing, just to try to save my life. I got a Cricut “get well soon” card from his new wife like, two months after the eventual amputation that had to happen. And that’s ignoring all the “we need to eradicate immigrants from America, even the ones with green cards” crap he was up to before that… you know, at the time that included his son-in-law.
      But he’ll tell you he’s a GREAT dad. 🙄

Why does he think his children's education by itself, plus him paying legally required money, means he was a good father?
Does he know or care what his children feel like when alone with themselves at the end of their successful day?
