    1) TFBTV is a Patreon supporter of GY6 because we know how much work Andrew puts into each video and we also know how uneconomical it is for GY6 to invest that much time into content and get paid only a few bucks by UA-cam
    2) James Reeves could listen to Andrew talk about penetration all day

12:30 Why this works is because the "talons" are pointing forward, and the corner edge of the appendage beneath it is slicing through and sticking at the same time. The other two times you threw this type of throwing star you threw it backwards so it had no hook, slice, or stick effect. It could probably still slice sometimes though, since it's still a sharp throwing star.

Did you notice with the axe type throwing star, you threw it one direction the whole time, (with the point in the trailing edge), until the last throw, -where it stuck. I would not expect good "penetration" from this one, but surely somewhat more reliable penetration with the point in the leading edge. Think of directional tires. They work much better when spinning in the intended direction.

    • @GY6vids
      @GY6vids  6 років тому +8

Yeah I agree and I threw it a couple ways like that as well and the results were the same...forgot to mention it and add it to the video, but in the end the results were the same. Hitting Bone is what makes that version work...I'm sure it would due something against direct flesh as well, but if there is any material like (CLOTHES...which I totally spaced on and didn't add) it would fail miserably pointed ends are the way to go IMO.

standard design throwing stars (mostly like the first ones you threw) can be pretty good in action. For sure poison was an important factor too. Mostly they tend to wound and/or disable an objective, if you don't cover or dodge them you would end up with a bad wound that could very likely be an important hindering factor in a confrontation. It was really cool when the weird fancy looking shuriken actually stuck on the rib, pretty good shot there, bro!

I common practice was to let the Shurikens rust or coat them in human feces, No cure for Tetanus back in the 16th century when people like Fujibayashi Nagato was a leader of the Iga region "Ninja" clans. Who often were employed by smaller Samurai Clans lead by the Daimyo of the Oomi domain in their fight against Oba Nobunaga. You are correct that they were mainly used as a form of distraction when fleeing from the better equipped and armed soldiers and samurai. Also as a side note, modern Shurikens are usually lighter and smaller then some of the Historical ones. I would love to see a video using some that are closer in weight and form to the historical version. Great Video, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Subscribed

Thing is throwing star will always cut your opponent its beauty is in its success rate in making your target bleed. Simply hit your targets flesh with throwing star and he will immediately start bleeding all over the place no matter where you hit him how hard you throw or how well you throw the star; can’t really mess it up nor should it take you any length of time to aim and fire it should take less time than any throwing weapon making it very effective for hitting unsuspecting targets that have not seen you yet. By the time they hear the star clang on the floor and see you dive behind some cover they’re already bleeding enough to wet their shoes and distract them from the ambush that is currently underway upon them! It’s actually quite genius!

The thing about ballistics gel is that despite being "jelly like" it is still dry. Living tissue has moisture, three densities of tissue... All of these elements create a "suction" effect which allows the "object" to remain in place.
Ballistics Gel serves as a reference to pure penetration. Most of those throws would have probably stuck in living tissue. Awesome Video!!!!

On my next trip I bought a book to help my throwing and whaddya know, it said the same thing. If I'd bought it first I could have saved $25 bucks (at least $70 in today's money) on things like snowflake like stars that had three barbs on each of its six points. The bloody things wouldn't stick to anything even after I sharpened them. They did look good hanging on the wall though.

What throwing stars need is some kind of hand-held device that 'throws' them at high-velocity, with them mounted in some kind of casing that is packed with gun powder. A hammer could strike a primer that causes an explosive force which launches them towards the target like a projectile.

Shuriken in the before times were used more for distraction to create openings and other things so they weren't really made to stick or be the most accurate. Lots of people confused in the comments. The idea of what we think of throwing stars isn't 100% accurate I'm sure there were times when they had to be used as a form of combat but I think at that point they would've just went in with swords since shuriken could be dodged/blocked relatively easily assuming you knew they were coming.

I got Kohga Ninja 4 point, 5 point and 6 point stars. You should have used left hand as a magazine, right hand as thrower. Throwing horizontal makes it faster. In case of a threat, you need to throw as much as possible. Many of them will miss the target and those who hit will not stop the threat.

a may not know much about throwing stars or most medals but maybe a metal detector might help you find any throwing stars you might have misplaced when throwing them just a helpful suggestion

The ninja star hitting the cardboard sounds like the hit marker in call of duty.

The first 2 times you threw the 3-point-axe-loiking one it was going with the point ends rotating backwards, I think that's why it didn't stick then.

I didnt think stars would be as effective as you've shown here. In the right hands they are definitely dangerous

The curvy one, you only threw it correctly the one time it stuck. The other times you threw it backwards.

They were originally made for construction work. With bamboo. As with most all of the weapons from Japan, because weapons we're ALL illegal, the origins of weapons used we're tools. i.e. Nunchucas we're for separating rice.

There was the old "wave" star, the superior dragon star, and a large 8 point shuriken that had 5" razor sharp points. The wave was razor sharp and designed to hook the skull like a p38 can opener and the superior dragon had 3 points to it's 8 main points. Oh and the Mountain star which had points inside points.

I was all about Bruce Lee as a kid and Chuck Norris. I had these martial arts magazines and in the very back were all these mail order stars and nunchakus and throwing knives...I had them all. It ended when my mother had to take me to the ER for stitches. She confiscated all my stuff with a sharp edge. And then I knocked myself out with the nunchakus. I hung up my "blackbelt" after that.

you would have had better results on the meat, if it wasn't attached to the gel. it's getting the gel's bounce, which it wouldn't have if it was just hanging on it's own or mounted to the table. cool test though.

Now you can co-start in a Scott Adkins movie as his little brother that gets killed in a professional fight, then he's forced to seek vengeance somewhere in the Antarctic and gets trained by a yeti.
Cool video though. Nice to see a for real test.

The key to throwing shurikens is shaking them up and down before each throw. Also it says 6:07 for the test, go to 6:25 instead, but he still talks for hours between each throw.
