12:30 Why this works is because the "talons" are pointing forward, and the corner edge of the appendage beneath it is slicing through and sticking at the same time. The other two times you threw this type of throwing star you threw it backwards so it had no hook, slice, or stick effect. It could probably still slice sometimes though, since it's still a sharp throwing star.
@@GY6vids They work very well. I recommend the 7 1/4" 24 tooth framing blades, good weight and well balanced. I stuck one in a tree about 15 feet off the ground several years ago and that bad lad is still there. I bet a lot of people have scratched their heads over the years wondering how that thing got there.
Did you notice with the axe type throwing star, you threw it one direction the whole time, (with the point in the trailing edge), until the last throw, -where it stuck. I would not expect good "penetration" from this one, but surely somewhat more reliable penetration with the point in the leading edge. Think of directional tires. They work much better when spinning in the intended direction.
Yeah I agree and I threw it a couple ways like that as well and the results were the same...forgot to mention it and add it to the video, but in the end the results were the same. RJ Gould Ninja Stars aren't meant to be thrown like a Frisbee. He threw them in the correct orientation, to ensure accuracy. It is a common mistake that people make :)
standard design throwing stars (mostly like the first ones you threw) can be pretty good in action. For sure poison was an important factor too. Mostly they tend to wound and/or disable an objective, if you don't cover or dodge them you would end up with a bad wound that could very likely be an important hindering factor in a confrontation. It was really cool when the weird fancy looking shuriken actually stuck on the rib, pretty good shot there, bro!
I use my index finger on one of the points, it adds more force "after" your throw and gives it more velocity and penetrating power, similar to how throwing spears are used with a device using the same principal
Nah if you apply pressure to the wound (when hit in head) you might be able to get out of there, but if you can throw them right and actually aim, straight to the neck would kill you, cuz you know, there is an artery there, a big one...
I was pretty surprised that the round throwing star stuck at the end, didn't expect that at all. I think it would be awesome to see some of the more wild designed throwing stars and how they perform. Thanks Andrew

Thing is throwing star will always cut your opponent its beauty is in its success rate in making your target bleed. Simply hit your targets flesh with throwing star and he will immediately start bleeding all over the place no matter where you hit him how hard you throw or how well you throw the star; can’t really mess it up nor should it take you any length of time to aim and fire it should take less time than any throwing weapon making it very effective for hitting unsuspecting targets that have not seen you yet. By the time they hear the star clang on the floor and see you dive behind some cover they’re already bleeding enough to wet their shoes and distract them from the ambush that is currently underway upon them! It’s actually quite genius!
The thing about ballistics gel is that despite being "jelly like" it is still dry. Living tissue has moisture, three densities of tissue... All of these elements create a "suction" effect which allows the "object" to remain in place. Ballistics Gel serves as a reference to pure penetration. Most of those throws would have probably stuck in living tissue. Awesome Video!!!!

These were only used as a distraction for escaping. If you had an authentic katana, would you assault with a star? lol. Love the vids.

The key to throwing shurikens is shaking them up and down before each throw. Also it says 6:07 for the test, go to 6:25 instead, but he still talks for hours between each throw.
For fourth of July you should rig something with Roman candles into ballistics gel.
I really like the slow motion capture.
