It's crazy how Pat Riley looked like the most prototypical hippie in the 70s and then the 80s started and he just instantaneously became the sharpest looking man in the world
Paul really was never much of a coach. He was too stubborn and stuck on his so-called system. That’s why he kept getting fired everywhere he went. He wasn’t making adjustments.
They did a great job with the cast. The actors for Magic, Kareem, Westhead, Jack Nicholson, Jerry West, look very much like them in the 80's. Adrien Brody is also pretty good as Pat Riley.
I remember Magic getting alot of flack for getting Westhead fired. Dr. Buss & Magic were correct.....Westhead had the Greatest point guard, awesome winner & team player in Magic Johnson.....and screwed it up.
Paul westhead started tinkering & trying to change what was already successful, and won them a NBA championship ! After losing to Houston in 1981 in the 1st round 2of3 mini series, he should have went back to McKinney's initial offense that was ran! Westhead alienated the players particularly magic! Easy choice westhead or magic? Westhead DISSAPEARED! 🎩💫💥💦💨
Well he did have a nice little run at Loyola Marymount .....he obviously knew basketball, but he didn't know people or personalities....when you have a Magic Johnson, screw your "system" he didn't belong in the NBA. Pat Riley knew what they had.

Paul Westhead was a punk when he coached the Lakers. Punk being “insignificant little person” who lacked the chops to find his fit within a well-built team yet devise a bum system that suppressed the strengths of the team.

Hair grease can do some amazing things!
Sing of the times and being in LA
In LA in particular the men cleaned up their hair and look at the onset of the 1980s Reagan years
Money solves cosmetic issues
Hahahahahahh so true this is facts he was the best dressed coach in the game in the 80s
Who here watching after Westhead and Riley took the job in winning time
Great show
I’m not! I promise!!! I don’t even know what show with John C. Reilly playing Jerry Buss you’re even talking about!! 😂
Best show
Yep Season 2
Excellent series...yes it brought me here
Its crazy that they made such a big deal about having 2 or 3 coaches. They have like 6 per team now.
Winning time!
It says a lot of events have changed, but everything westhead said in this interview is in episode 4
Nah that was Jack McKinney
Haha he has Latte Larry's mug with the warming device. Pretty pretty cool.
I thought Adrien Brody casting for Riley was poor until I see this picture
He’s the best part of the show
Awesome job by Marshall
Eriksen
Show's mostly good, but all the casting was perfect.
Winning time brought me here
Magic didn't like, or get along with Paul Westhead. He gave the Laker management an ultimatum. Him or Westhead? That was a no brainer.
good decision...
His voice sounds like the guy that plays him in Winning Time
Riley resume surpassed him he was the head coach the whole time

Well I give him a TON of credit for winning it all and giving that great dynasty it's very first championship.
He won it because of Pat. What did he ever do anywhere else
@@joshkennedy2868He was successful in college and in the wnba. It was Mckinney’s offense. Riley had little to do with it

He got fired because he made Jabbar the centerpiece of the Lakers.
He is underrated in laker history
After this, therefore, because of this.
he wanted magic to play power forward and that was his biggest mistake.
He wanted the ball to go Kareem most of the time. Magic wanted to run more.
Magic played all 5 positions his rookie year and won a championship.
