These are some of the best DiMarzio's around. I have found so much of their pickup catalog to be dark, boomy, or muddy, but Joe, being the PAF guy that he is, manages to make DiMarzio produce something that is truly great AND versatile. I swear, ALL the Satch pickups are fantastic, FRED, Mo' Joe, Satchur8...though, honestly, with FRED I swear, I can close my eyes and 100% hear his 90s tone, which makes sense that's what he was using back then. I still think the FRED wins, though I don't think you could ever go wrong with a Satch pickup (and his later models seem to "scream" easier, so that's a nice bonus)
I have the paf pro in my bridge and Im thinking of upgrading to a Fred, MoJo or a Satchur8. I was leaning towards a Satchur8 first but was turned of when I looked at the specs on Dimarzios site.. It has lots of low end and not so much high end. Is it muddy or boomy?
I used a Fred for years. Great pickup. Works very well with high gain. I like the Mo'Joe too. There just isn't enough of a different for me to choose one over the other. The PAF Pro is another great medium output pup that works well for high gain. Satch used it before the Fred, Vai used it for years, and Paul Gilbert as well.
@@angusorvid8840 no it sounds thin based on harmonics I want a big lead tone not a thin sound like a sss strat so I play with the Norton when Satriani has the Mo Joe or new ones after that the Norton is the perfect mix with Tone Zone and Fred with more power
So I have a weird question... so I've tried tons and tons of pickups over the years, but theres something very special about two pickups in particular; the dimarzio fred and dimarzio breed both have this unique quality where harmonics "jump out"... I know this sounds like some tone voodoo nonsense, but if you play a fred next to a paf pro or something you'd know what I mean. Its this weird "presence" knob just for harmonics thats turned up to 10, I have no idea how to explain it effectively otherwise lol. I've never played a mo joe; but since its based on the FRED and well, used by Satch... does it share this quality? Im looking to get some new pickups for my rg550, currently leaning on a breed bridge and evo neck; but Im not too sure what I want to settle on yet. Cheers
The sound is very weak, this is an old video. Importantly, FRED is practically only good for playing as a soloist all night, while Mo’Joe can also be used in a band. It doesn’t focus on cutting through the whole thing.
@@soencoe1 Well pointed, i've played Fred* on bands, evil lead sound without the need to add a TS or what. And average on riff. But i like it the way it is, it's the Satch sound.
The MoJoe has a honk to it that cuts, but maybe a bit of a specific sound. The Fred seems floatier and less focused, but maybe more versatile? They're both pretty unique

@@soencoe1 That is also my opinion so I installed PAF Joe + Mo Joe in my S2170FW and I am amazed by that combination :-) especially with a 5-way switch from Ibanez. Great variety of sounds.
that's the problem : the js 1200 has just a basswood body (not alder like main strat which better clean tones) the js comes with the mo Joe = great mix Paf - strat tone the 2450 has just another pickup in single size format the 24 frets gives harmonics at the 24th fret I wanted a big lead tone not a thin sound like a sss strat so I play with the Norton when Satriani has the Mo Joe or new ones after that the Norton is the perfect mix with Tone Zone and Fred with more power

I've used Freds and PAF Pros since the 80s. Great pickups. I love the Mo Joe too but have never owned one. I find the new Satchur8 a bit too hot.

You are so right, the PAF PRO are one of the best Dimarzios...not the MO Joe is hat but more refined!
Fred is the original satriani sound and it sounds hotter although Mo Joe is designed to be hotter. Thank you for the video.

The Volume is so high that the sound gets distorted in the recording. This makes it hard to hear the details.

Great demo, and great playing!
I think I’m going to try the Fred in my Les Paul!
Fred or Mo Joe will get very "mid and low"... in my opinion.... (if your guitar mahogany)
Did u put it in.
Same sound for me.
i have two Fred-dp153, very good pick up for lead rock, beautiful high tone

Strictly Fred. Js1200 is the best Joe Satriani Guitar Model

I honestly think the Mo Joe has a bit better sustain
Try Satchur8 .I think it has more sustain than Mojo.Hoping to upgrade.
So which guitar do you think sounds better?
2450 has better Bridge Pickup while the 1200 has the better Neck Pickup. Personally I found the 24 Frets not so good.

Fred is Satriani´s sound!!! Cool vídeo. Thanks!
both are
I like the Mo'joe better.
FRED!!!
the Fred sound bright and thin
try the Norton for some better results
Fred!!!!
mo'joe sounds more like Joe
Man beside the pickups, the sound is exactly satch his sound, what is your gear? :)
Nothing special, just a POD500HD.
There is no difference, maybe i'm deaf 😊
Mo Joe is a bit fatter on solos, otherwise very similar PUs
