    I honestly think Joe is the most rounded electric guitar player of all time. Blues, Rock, Effortless Shred, weird whammy bar trick, sweepicking, complex jazz chords, voice like melodies and a great tone. Not to mention he seems like a nice, humble guy.

      Robert Noble Music I think Guthrie Govan is the apex predator with all around on the electric. There's that great video of Govan, Satch and Vai alternating on "Smells Like Teen Spirit" of all things. All three guys are unbelievably good, but Joe and Steve keep laughing and smiling at the stuff Govan was playing back at them, as if to say "too good".

      Robert Noble Music Jimmy Page for me. Satch hasn't written enough killer riffs to make him the best. Page is unquestionably the master of riffs and riffs are really the holy grail of a lead guitarist. Page also knew how to write classics on the acoustic.

    Joe will always sound like Joe.
    Whether he's using a PAF Pro, or if hes using his new Mo'joe Satchurator Omega Surfing Alien Crystal Tone Maker v3.7, he still sounds like Joe.

    Holy shit! You can sense his deep mastery of music just by listening to him talk about it...and then he plays a few licks and they're dripping with style.

    The next set for Mr. Satriani should be called the "Satch n' Sniff" pickup set. Best name ever...all yours Mr. Dimarzio and Mr. Satriani. :)
    Mister Dimarzio, I love you sir, and your wonderful pickups. In the mid 80's I discovered your company while looking for a humbucker to put in a Gibson V2 that I owned, but had these very weak V shaped pickups. I saw a store selling replacement pickups and I was shocked and thrilled. I saw the name "Super Distortion" and I HAD to have one. My Gibson V2 sprang to life! Thank you.
    I would later ruin that V2 trying to route it for a floyd...I know, I know... but I also had a Charvel and a Gibson SG and they did NOT have Dimarzios in them...so, they were next (I still have the Charvel -- played FOUR necks off of it. I did not know anyone who could replace frets in my area at the time so I just bought other similar Charvels and robbed the necks).
    I have owned and played EVERY humbucker that you make that is medium to high output. And most of the single coils. Every time I build, or mod a guitar they get Dimarzios. I have tried other pickups and they are NOT as good as Dimarzios. Duncans just sound like an average pickup overwound. I played most Duncans and meh...not for me. EMGs have zero head room and I cannot stand them. Played all of the other brands too, or bought guitars with other pickups in them. All were replace with Dimarzios.
    I have around 40 guitars now (you can tell which house is mine by the sound of my angry about that wife!) and they all have Dimarzios. My favorite combination is a Crunch Lab (X2N and Titans are runners-up and I own a LOT of those too) in the bridge and a Tone Zone in the neck. I have the Norton, PAF Pro, Breed and Super 3's in some of the neck positions, but I find that if I install a Tone Zone facing in the neck like it would be facing in the bridge, I achieve the best neck pickup sound ever.
    I play mostly neoclassical metal and nothing can touch those pickups on God's green earth. I just wanted to say thank you sir, even though you will never read this, for 35 years of great tone in my life. If Mr. Dimarzio was to have a line of autographed pickups, I would pay way more to have them. I am sure that a lot of guitarists would. You really should tell Mr. Dimarzio to autograph some stuff and put it up on the website for us Dimarzio junkies to buy.
    Have a great new year...cannot get worse unless space-alien dinosaurs molest us as the earth hurls into the sun. :)

    Satriani's tone, phrasing and note choice is immaculate. Been a fan (putting it mildly) since I was a kid at school and am still hooked on everything he does. Him and Steve Vai made me want DiMarzio pickups on my guitars and they're quite simply the best pickups in the world. Much love and respect.

    The Mo Joe is my fave pickup of all time and I put it in the bridge of 5-6 of my guitars. Sounds great in my alder Charvel pro mod and equally good in the bridge of my Jackson Soloist pro series. It even sounds great in the bridge of my double cut LP. I`m really diggin` the Satchur8 which has enhanced higher mid range...sings and sustains for days, and cuts through the mix like a champ. Similar but different than the Mo Joe. Also love the PAF Joe and have those in the neck of 6 guitars also...and will soon try PAF Joe in the bridge. The vowelly wah sounds are like having a built in effect pedal when touch and technique are just so...the vowels and the magic come out..the pickup literally speaks. Love Dimarzio products and Joe and I have been fans of both for 30 years!

    2:21 This is a really true. I previously used treble bleed on the volume control, but the Satch track has sufficient brightness and I decided the treble bleed is not needed. Riding the volume control gives a great range of tone, exactly as demonstrated here. Thanks to Joe Satriani and Dimarzio for a such a versatile pickup.

    without really getting much quieter. still works great for me 30 years later..

    The DP425 reminds me of the tone that comes from the " Fred " Dimarzio in my strat neck position. It has that wet/fat neck tone to it. But Joe's Mo Joe sounds really thick. In some ways, especially as Joe plays closer to the bridge, that pickup brings out more of the pick sound, simliar to the way Frank Zappa's strat picking sound was.

    • @m3tafunj
      @m3tafunj 4 роки тому

      One thing that brought out FZ's pick in his sound with his strat was that he started using a metal pick around that time. You can really hear it in the 84-88 recordings.

    Love Joe!
    I have a Mo Jo in one of my guitars. It's ballsy but cleans up well. It's probably the most balanced pup I have ever used. It has really good separation, as well. It sounds good split too. Great pup - my new fav (my other fav. is the Breed. The tone chart looks wrong to me on the Dim. website for the Breed bridge pup, though). I may have to try the Satch Track too, but I really like the Area 58s for the single coil sound. Differences between the ST and the A58?

    All new respect for Joe. While sitting and playing the guitar, he plays with the guitar sitting on his left knee. This makes sure that your left arm never crosses your torso, which allows easier access to to the lower portions of the neck. Not only that, but it also allows for easier vibrato and placing your thumb on the back of the neck well for bar chords. Hell, everything improves. Now, if we can only talk more people into playing this way.

    Hi Larry, i've got a question. I'm digging Andy Timmon's neck tones. I know it's a cruiser, but unfortunately the Dimarzio seller available around my area only has the chopper currently. Can the chopper nail Andy's semi clean/break up tones? I'm using a 24 fret super strat style guitar. I'd imagine I'll have to lower it a bit and change the pots to mellow it out just a hair, or even splitting it. Do you think it'll bring the chopper to a cruisier ballpark? Thanks!

    A neck pick up closer to the fretboard gets warmer, and a Bridge pick up closer to the bridge gets treblier to me!
    Treblier LOL! .... The same is true if you pick closer to the neck or bridge with your picking hand .. Closer to fretboard is warmer, closer to bridge is brighter.

    I JUST BOUGHT THIS GUITAR FROM SWEET WATER, IT IS INCREDIBLE, I BUILD GUITARS SO IT WAS WIERD SPENDING MONEY ON A GUITAR, I WAS LOOKING ON LINE FOR TEMPLATES FOR A JS AND SAW THE SWEET WATER ADD 48 MONTHS FINANCING NO INTEREST AND COULDN'T PASS IT UP, BEST GUITAR PURCHASE I'VE MADE IN THE PAST 5 YEARS I WOULD DEFINITELY ADVISE INVESTING IN THIS GUITSR IF YOU ARE A SERIOUS PLAYER WHO WANTS A GUITAR THAT DOES IT ALL.

    Wow, neck pickup sounds like a strat, on a Steve Vai 7-string would be awesome....

      He has a limited range and he sings with his guitar instead. Not sure why you would say " if only" - he's an instrumentalist. Glad he focused on guitar, as is every true fan.

    I might have to ditch my charvel so cal. I played one of these satch Ibanez guitars and blew me away! So expressive and musical' and easy to play! Makes my Charvel seem like its dead.

      Anti Law Could always try swapping out the pickups to the same Joe uses in his sigs first, a little less costly, and might bring your fiddle back to life.

    Hi Larry, I have various Dimarzio pickups, but I find with my amp which is quite hi-gain (Carvin Legacy 3) only really manages soaring leads with quite a high-output pickup like the Dimarzio Evo. How does Joe achieve such sustain and fat-tone, with lower output pickups, without pushing the gain on the amp to the point of unpleasantry and noise?
    Is my amp the limiting factor in that it was designed with the Evo in mind (or the Evo was designed with the legacy in mind? I guess it doesn't matter which way around), or is there a better way to utilise my settings?

      +Craig Shutt Hi Craig, Joe is using his custom Marshall amp in the video. I used a Shure SM57 and found the sweet spot on the the 4X12 cabinet. Here's the link to Marshall.
      marshallamps.com/products/amplifiers/signature-series/jvm410hjs/
      I know Joe has been through a number of different amps but usually come backs to that Marshall tone.
      Hope that helps,
      Larry DiMarzio

      A COMPRESSOR WILL GIVE YOU THE FAT TONE AND SINGING ALMOST VIOLIN LIKE LEAD LINES, IF YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW COMPRESSORS WORK WATCH A VIDEO BY A GUY NAMED PHILLIP MCKNIGHT, HE EXPLAINS WHAT THEY DO, JOE ALSO USES SUSTAINIAC PICKUPS IN SOME OF HIS GUITARS(DONT SEE ONE IN THIS GUITAR) COMBINED WITH HIS DIMARZIO PICKUPS AND THAT IS MADE FOR NOTED THAT SUSTAIN FOREVER

    • @StratMatt777
      @StratMatt777 7 років тому +1

      At one time I think Joe used a BOSS DS-1 Distortion pedal to push the preamp... maybe he still does for those soaring leads... correction: I think he has his own signature pedals now?

    • @Ibaneddie76
      @Ibaneddie76 7 років тому

      ACTUALLY I BELIEVE HE USES A POWER ATTENUATOR, I'M NOT SURE IF THE SATRIANI SIGNATURE MARSHALL HAS ONE BUILT IN THE 51503 COMBO DOES AND ITS A GOD SEND, YOU CAN PUSH THE TUBES AND TUNE IN YOUR TONE THEN TURN THE ATTENUATOR DOWN TO BEDROOM LEVEL AND YOU DON'T LOSE YOUR TONE ITS GREAT. YOU CAN ALSO PUSH YOUR AMB AND USE YOUR GUITAR'S VOLUME AS A SECOND MASTER THAT WORKS BUT NOT AS GOOD ITS BETTER FOR LOW WATTAGE AMPS LIKE A CLASS 5.

      It's called a nice stack, and pedals galore. If you want to do it on the cheap purchase BIAS. It will do this and then some. Just make sure your computer is worth a shit and your guitar is a decent one.
