Doubly so, for F.E.A.R. Imo, one of the trilogy's greatest strong points was the use of the OST of each respective game, flavored with that of the og, to help add to the atmosphere and truly help give a hint to the player: *_"Don't rush this! You'll miss what there is to offer here..."_* 😈
This plays in the background as you walk through an empty office building on the 15th floor, its all dark and a labyrinth of office dividers and blood. Thats the f.e.a.r experience :D
It was so visceral and immersive. I haven't come across another game that is so bound together and complete like a nice well backed FEAR cake. Not to moist, not too dry, not too sweet but sweet enough. Although the level design and texturing was a bit boring in places like the sewers and service areas, it can be forgiven.
As a child, I once saw Alma in a dark corridor in part 1 and for a long time I was afraid to go into the dark or into the corridors. I saw her everywhere
Such a fitting soundtrack for this game. its creepy, yet intriguing. it really captures the atmosphere of this game, unravelling Armachan's secrets whilst battling with super soldiers... man i love this game...
What i wouldn't for an HD remaster of FEAR 1 then have Monolith actually make a proper FEAR 2 and maybe even FEAR3. This series really breaks my heart, it started out so strong and then it just got pissed again. FEAR = Legendary. FEAR2 average console shooter. FEAR3 = absolute, total and utter garbage.
@EramSemperRecta FEAR 3 wasn't even developed by monolith. Monolith was working on shadow of mordor. It was developed by Day1 studio. It doesnt even use the lithtech engine developed by monolith. It uses day1's proprietary engine that has shit lighting compared to monolith's lithtech, which is a big NONO for a game like F.E.A.R.
Yeah, the Monolith arent the faction they once were and not the cheeky kind either. Having played the two - first game has no problems delineating a strong plot with no mind for the limits of controversy or distaste (something new for once), mis-én-scene was experimental for a game of its time with deliberate choice of brooding, secluded locales remains the best entry in the series and really showcases just how powerful Jupiter EX (Lithtech) was and still amazes me that they managed this is 2005 of all years to have shadow/lightmapping that dynamic. Alpha blending was pretty fantastic, gave explosions almost reality-bending properites. And the artificial intelligence often still kicks my ass good (play a lot of fps). FEAR 2 was a backstep in everything (characterization felt flanderized, a lot of bugs and poor optimization on PC, not as dark or brooding) in terms of pure presentation, weapon difference, enemy variety and gore. I found the sequels plot a bit convoluted but it was satisfying if a little freaky (having sex with...you know "who" at the end made me uncomfortable). The seedy backdrops, the urbane setting and the final location being a technologial underground haven really paints the psychologically horrifying & "of the unknown" feel at every corner and the Alma sightings puts the player into tension wracked scenarios. The games sound if you use DSOAL/EAX is arguably some of the best audio I've heard in a game to date, everything feels "real" and "solid" with it. The "depth" of gameplay was bolstered by an innovative system of varied weaponry and melee choices. Mind you the guns animations are fairly detailed model wise they arent good animation wise (only positive thing about FEAR2). Compare this with games of its time (pre-Episode 2 HL, Project Snowblind, TimeSplitters 3) were still paling in terms of lightmapping, shadowmapping and general "body" modelling. Not saying the games are bad (I play 'em to this day) of course but I played F.E.A.R back in 2006 on PS3 before getting it on PC and found F.E.A.R to be the most fun at the time. I wont even comment on FEAR 3 barring this one - the opening sequence of the game immediately made me disgusted and the death of Becker is about the same level of asspull as Max Payne 3 and Half Life Alyx (I am one of those who didnt like the ending but do like that VALVe is back to their ways). A remake would harm the originality of the first one. What we need is our "Half Life 3" of F.E.A.R - V.R or traditional if possible- I know of a game trying to become the "F.E.A.R" but I have forgotten it. Ah, it's name is Trepang. However it's in very early access pre-alpha state.
@@Dinosaurianationazation Yeah, I would love a new Blood game ( principally by the fact that Blood 2 was a fucking trash ;-;). I love both F.E.A.R. and Blood so I want them back Monolith :'D
When i first found out about this series I played the second on the 360 and loved it and knew the first had to be near perfect, and I cracked it on IGG but recently I bought it on steam for $55 because it’s beyond worth it! Best FPS game
The score is superb and really sets the tone, bringing it all together as one whole. One of the most tightly aesthetic games. Latter day games have way better graphics, but very shallow in their execution and constitution.
I remember beign a 5 year old or maybe 6 years old when my dad started playing this and this theme was something that awoke curiosity but yet some scary feeling. Althought he finished it and never touched it again since then , i stille remember this creepy song haunting me in the late winter nights. And now im listening to this to help me write a dark and creepy enviroment in my project
pov: you are trying to get this old ass game to run 21:9 and you're looking at guides thru steam's web browser in the overlay while this loops endlessly in the background
+Quarz_dk FEAR Online for the PC is more or less a direct sequel to Project Origin. It feels much more like the older games. The multiplayer is shit, but the PvE missions are pretty good.
I just hope a developer team shows this game love and remakes it, not just graphically, but gameplay wise, modernize it without making it feel different.
***** Exactly. I'd love to see some of the mechanics Monolith introduced in FEAR 2 (like irons and fire modes) combined with the more dynamic way the story in FEAR is told. Granted, I'd also like it if they actually tied the first five games (FEAR, FEAR 2, and their DLCs) together. You wouldn't have to do much: PERSEUS Mandate works without any changes, Extraction Point can be handwaved as Alma fucking with your mind (because that's the only way it makes sense anyway), and then tie everything into the DELTA operators in FEAR 2. That leaves the stage open for F3AR starring Becket and the first prototype rather than Fettel, who as amusing as he was in F3AR, doesn't really work as a protagonist.
I have no nostalgia for this game remember seeing it in game magazines in elementary but it was super scary so I'd turn the page fast. I love this era of fps games all my friends play cod or overwatch destiny but I can't play that shit something about that 1994 to the mid 2000's the shooters hit a bit different best fps games. Gunplay is soo tight you can tell this game was programed to last. I've noticed that games from this era have really tight gameplay what happened to that
It's always interesting when you hear a title or menu song appear in gameplay. It's like "Things are getting extra serious!"
I love that element.

This music was stuck in my head since the very first time my father booted it on a classic XP computer.

And then it immediately segues into a John Woo action flick
