I patio cover contractor and I've been doing them for over 30 years ..you did a nice job..I can see you send alot of time on your cuts for the rafters to fit properly..and alot of time on painting the job .. Nice work ..
I've been working on a covered deck. After some false starts on the cover panels, I settled on Suntuf polycarbonate panels in white from Home Depot. They have a 45% light transmission. I had actually bought opaque colored panels, but after placing some loosely on the roof, I did notice that the deck area seemed rather dark. I returned them. I then almost went with clear panels and accepted that I'd need to hang a shade cloth in the summer, but I was concerned about how long they would last after carefully reading reviews. But, the white panels with 45% light transmission seemed the perfect compromise, and the reviews were really good. Indeed, they do allow plenty of light underneath during cloudy winter weather but, according to multiple reviews, also provides the right amount of shade in sunny weather. I'm really happy with them so far. You might consider them when you eventually replace your clear panels.

Nice job! I'm going to build one 10'x40' and use glulam beams so that I only need 3 posts to span 40'. Were your joist on 24" centers? Why did you chose that time/labor intensive batten technique instead of just lying them on top of the joist? Thank you!
Thank you. I choose this pattern over laying it on top of the rafter for extra support on the roof panels. The instructions for the roof panels allows for both methods. I decided to go with the flushed method even though it is more time consuming and labor intensive. Page 5 of this pdf document is where they show the framing pattern: images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/22/2233e66d-9651-4f21-a846-014e04f186d0.pdf Only having circular saw definitely did not make it easier. Haha. Good luck on yours. :)
Looking back at the video now, I wish i went with laying the purlins right on top of the rafters and just place blocking in between purlins if I had to. I think that would save a lot of time and connectors.
Great job! Are those posts attached to an anchor or dug directly into concrete? I’ve attached 4 9ft 4x6 posts into concrete using Simpson anchors and the posts are not sturdy it sort of wobbles from midpoint to the top of the posts but I haven’t attached the joists or fascia board yet. Is the slight wobble normal? Thank you.
Thank you! The columns are actually existing. There was a patio here before. We had to take it down because it was rotting. The columns are attached by column base. Something similar to these: www.strongtie.com/columnbases_capsandbases/category The columns are pretty sturdy by themselves. It moves slightly if I push hard enough.
A slight wobble shouldn’t be a problem. As long as you drilled to correct depth and used the correct anchor bolts, you’re good. Once you bolt the rest to it, it’s as sturdy as it can be imho. But it always varies to double check your work when it doubt. Be safe
I recently built one and mine wobbled too. I added brick columns to both posts, filled them with cement, and now they're VERY sturdy. I'd recommend doing the same.. I'll send you send you pictures to see what mine looked like

Thank you. I choose this pattern over laying it on top of the rafter for extra support on the roof panels. The instructions for the roof panels allows for both methods. I decided to go with the flushed method even though it is more time consuming and labor intensive. Page 5 of this pdf document is where they show the framing pattern: images.homedepot-static.com/catalog/pdfImages/22/2233e66d-9651-4f21-a846-014e04f186d0.pdf
Only having circular saw definitely did not make it easier. Haha. Good luck on yours. :)
Looking back at the video now, I wish i went with laying the purlins right on top of the rafters and just place blocking in between purlins if I had to. I think that would save a lot of time and connectors.
@@jinhomui7713 how much did u space them anyway?
@@Eastbaypisces I space my rafter 2ft off center
Something similar to these:

The columns are pretty sturdy by themselves.
I'll send you send you pictures to see what mine looked like
The solar grey looks great. How is the light transmission underneath? Looks like it would still be quite comfortable even in direct sunlight?
MellowMediaDesign in California it still feels hot. I would suggest getting the solid color ones to block all the sun. There should still have plenty of lights from the open side of the patio
@@jinhomui7713 Thanks for the reply, I'm going to be building in Texas so that's good info. Too bad, to me the solar grey looks more... "premium"
MellowMediaDesign I agree.
Crushed it 👍🏼
Northeast Hardy Tropicals thank you
If this is south Florida, can you come do a job in broward county? 30 ft overhang + 20 ft.
That's really sweet offer, but I'm located in california and not a professional at all haha.
@@jinhomui7713 I know in California doesn't rain very much but where I leave rains a lot and I was wondering if the plastic roofing panels are noisy when rains hard... Hope to hear back from you.. Thanx
@@PatPat-UA-camSucks This roofing panel does get noisy during rain.
