Good morning Ruth! This is my new favorite song I discovered a couple of days ago and have listened to about 20 times,,, lol .... Pete Drake's steel is moanin the background and Kitty is singing so precisely and like a bird she even almost bends a note at one point which wasn't her thing at all,, lol,,,,, and the song is awesome,, written by Marty Robbins ... I Love This Country Album By Ernest Tubb! This is my favorite one. My grandfather and I would sing these songs off this album together. We loved this Ernest Tubb Album!! Thank You for bringing some great memories back to me. What a Joy!! : )
I'm sure happy you enjoyed it !! Next time you're in the mood for an ET album try this one which is my favorite... ~ ua-cam.com/video/NMW38nau0u4/v-deo.html
I'm back again in order to listen to another great career disc of Ernest Tubb. Very appropriate and interesting are the comments made by 2packs4sure above. It's not at all easy for a great singer when he goes through a bad phase of his career.
Many many thanks for fulfilling my request! I am very grateful. I think that Holdin' Hands is recorded at April 21 1965 ( see Ronnie Pugh's book page 413). According to my track listing, it is also reissued on the Waltz Across Texas box set, disc 5, track 31. The Bear Family box sets follow the chronological order of the sessions. Greetings!
You're sure welcome and thanks for finding the Holdin' Hands session info. !! I checked the Bear family book and didn't see it,, I forgot to check Pugh's discography. I see now that I missed it since it was a full year in advance of the others,, I DID call it as a RCA Victor Studio session cut by ear so I should get points on that !! :)
Glad you enjoyed it ! Moon wasn't a regular Troubadour,, the band members in this timeframe April 65' thru April 66' were Leon Rhodes [lead guitar], Cal Smith [rhythm guitar], Buddy Charleton [steel], Jack Drake [upright bass], and Jack Greene [drums]. They added various session players as needed and as available on most sessions in the 60's such as Jerry Shook [guitar], Jerry Smith [piano], Willie Ackerman [drums], Moon Mullican [piano,] on these particular sessions and several other great session players on other sessions.. Sometimes ET and other big artists would get certain guys on their sessions just to help them out which is probably why Moon Mullican was there,, of course they had to be good and Moon certainly was.. Willie Ackerman was a great session drummer and was the house drummer on Hee Haw for a thousand years..... :)
