    So many years have passed and I could not download the final for AA anymore, but it didn't matter as much since you've not only explained what all kinds of effects do, but you've also shown the actual windows of each, so I could easily copy that and adjust those to my needs.
    Either way, I've followed your tutorial and yes, you sir have helped me kill all of the noise completely, it worked. I can now happily record my voice or stream with a much higher production quality.
    Thank you!

      He's too close to the mic, so it's picking up a ton of bass. #malevocalproblems
      Also sounds like there's some pretty decent echo which doesn't help.

      Well the Howard Stern sound comes from Howard Stern's voice, aided by his $6000 Neumann microphone. QQ (Side note: everyone else on the show uses the decently affordable Shure SM7 mic.)

    Absolutely AMAZING video! I definitely love your style of tutorial videos. You're very clear, understandable, and thorough with your explanations, and it makes it easier for a beginner to understand what's going on. You're talented at taking complicated things, and dumbing them down for the inexperienced. I subbed and will look forward to more tutorials from you!

    This was exactly what i needed. I was using NoiseGater and it was crap. I can use this with ReLive or OBS. Even though this is 4 years old it still works with the current version of Audition CC. The project file had no issues.

    For those of you who may be getting some reverb or static, try changing the delay in your hardware settings in Audition. I had it set to 40, and that was no good. Bumping it to 50 was crystal clear.

    WANT TO GET SKYPE IN THERE TOO? I wanted to get both my mic and a skype call running through Adobe Audition and Then put them on separate tracks to apply different fixes to them if needed. Sadly Audition can only take one audio input at a time. It took a bit of research but i found that if you use a virtual mixer like Voicemeeter you can combine Skype and Mic to one source, THEN use its panning feature to force skype to the right channel of a stereo source and then your mic to the left side. Then when you put the output of Voicemeeter into Audition and make a on a Multitrack session. Then you can you can pick mono->channel 1 and mono channel 2 for 2 separate tracks and go from there! You may need to set up Audition to force the output back to stereo before it hits OBS, other wise each will be heard in only one ear respectively. Or you can use the OBS feature to force them to stereo from there as well.

  • @thenar

    This was very helpful except when I installed the virtual cable, all sound stopped...I hadn't read (my bad) all the instructions. So I ran the troubleshooter and it removed a bunch of sound drivers. So I recommend that all of you read the instructions completely. Virtual Audio Cable is just a little tricky. Thanks for taking the time to share this info. I certainly saved me a lot of research.

    I'm loving this but it seems to be a bit too loud for me. I see many different ways to decrease the gain but I'm not sure which would be the best as far as maintaining quality. Decreasing my microphone's volume isn't an option it's already as low as it can go to be optimal. What might be the most optimal way to decrease the output of audition? The little knob on the effects rack doesn't seem to be the best option to me.

    • @rsmrt
      @rsmrt  10 років тому +1

      It seems the drivers and computer makes a big difference. I recently got a soudblaster z-series and it helps a lot, but there is still a small delay. For the smoothest sound, i increase the audition buffer to about 150ms, and i compensate by adding a small delay to the video (in OBS) during live streaming so they are in sync.

    Hey Psynaps,
    thanks for the great tutorial! But I have one big problem.
    How can I setup a threshold limit value for the microphone voice? The issue is, that I have all my ambient noises on the recording, so I need a "minimum" activation line. (the same as the "speech activation" in teamspeak 3). There must be a limit and noises under this limit have to be ignored/not recorded.
    I hope you know what I mean.
    Thanks in advance for any help and best greetings from Germany.

    • @rsmrt
      @rsmrt  10 років тому +1

      The Dynamic processing filter in my template will act as a limiter. It is great for setting the noise threshold and will basically filter out any background noise. Thats exactly what I use it for.

    • @devitalize
      @devitalize 10 років тому

      Psynaps Hey Psynaps, thanks for your fast response. But I can not solve the problem :-( . With each setting, I can hear my chair or keyboard noises. Any idea which option of the dynamic processing filter exactly I have to use to set a minimum noise limit?
      Thanks again :-(

  • @irlrp
    @irlrp 7 років тому

    OK i finally got it working, it took me a while to understand properly with the poor management of the hardware lines in WIndows, WIndows sometimes automatically switches channels when you install new "hardware" (like the virtual cable) and it's really counter intuitive to deal with those settings... I finally handled it...
    Thanks for the profile, my microphone ain't that bad, but without any filtering it captured too much, this setting with a little tweak is more voice-focused :p
    Cheers

    While casting I find that my desync is not the same all the time. Hell, IF I put 100 in adobe, It isn't even -100 in OBS. Anyway to "Lock" the desync in a way so it doesn't constantly fluctuates.

    • @rsmrt
      @rsmrt  10 років тому

      I think each mic and audio driver is slightly different in terms of the available formats in the advanced tab. Also, I have tried this on my Razor headset. It can improve the sound of any mic, but I found the filter settings must be changed a lot. Headset mic will not be as clear and dynamic as a nice condenser mic.

    Thanks for the tutorial, but how did you get your video to match perfect to your voice? I'm experiencing terrible 3+ sec delay on OBS. I tried playing with latency a bit.. I had to turn it all the way to -400 to get it almost right, but anything higher gets choppy. Recording offline is about a 1 second delay. Either way, I threw you a sub for the awesome guide :).

    • @rsmrt
      @rsmrt  10 років тому +1

      This may have different results depending on your soundcard and drivers. Try disabling some of the Audition filters, one-by-one, to see you can find the one that causes the most delay. I found some filters have delay, while others don't. After some optimization for your setup, I bet you can find a combination of effects that has low delay. I am still using this setup and it works for me with no delay.

    I've been looking around for this kind of tutorial. I obviously don't have the money to buy Adobe Audition (nor do I want to enter into their subscription service). Is there any way to accomplish what is happening with Audacity? My PC get's kind of loud (my first step will be in a couple months to upgrade from Blue Snowball to Yeti) and I get a lot of that white noise. Or are there any cheaper programs that could help me accomplish the same thing that Audition does? Thanks for the video and I would be absolutely thrilled if my voice could sound half as great as your's does!

    I've been using your method for about 2 weeks now and it works great, most of the time. Occasionally I'll have garbled mic audio (desktop audio is unaffected) in my stream and I'll have to stop the stream, exit Audition completely, disconnect and reconnect my mic, relaunch audition, and finally restart my stream. I have verified that all my software is set to use 48000hz sampling, and have double checked that all my settings match yours, including re-downloading you audition file. I am using an audio Technica AT2020 USB mic, Adobe Audition CS6, VAC 4.13.0.5811 (full), and OBS 0.6.3.8 (but I'm considering going to the 0.64 beta to see if that will magically resolve my issue). As a side note, if I listen with the MME repeater the sound is not garbled, even when it is garbled on my stream. I am of the opinion that it is an issue between OBS itself and VAC, but I haven't got a clue how to resolve it. If needed I can post log files, screenshots of settings, etc. on google drive and provide a link to the files. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    • @glengraham9179

      techiefIve Have you found a solution for this issue? I'm experiencing this problem currently..any help would be appreciated

    • @techiefIve
      @techiefIve 9 років тому

      Sort of... I use the VAC audio repeater (MME) to listen to my mic before I go live. If it's garbled I close Audition and relaunch the saved project (I saved the project file to my desktop for ease's sake). If it's good, I close Audio Repeater and move on. It hasn't gotten garbled in the middle of a stream even once, so it seems that it either works properly, or is garbled from the start. If it's not good, I just close and relaunch again. I've rarely had to do this more than once or twice. I wish I could figure out what causes it, but at least I've got a functional workaround.

    Thank you Psynaps for this very friendly and educational tutorial! I am using a Rode Procaster with a Xenyx 302USB and after having set up Audition with these effects I couldnt believe how lovely everything sounds all of a sudden, it is a difference between night and day! There is only one small issue I have and that is the delay. It seems to me that for every effect i add, the delay also increases from the moment I talk into the mic to the point that it gets played back. Is there a way for me to overcome that issue a little bit better and maybe tighten the gap? Why is it that way? Does Audition maybe need a higher priority regarding cpu usage or is it a complete other issue here? Would changing the device class help? Any help on that would be great, thanks! Oh and I use Voicemeeter for monitoring, this software is actually very handy and easy to get into!

    7:37 Does anyone know if there is a hardware solution which can take care of these settings shown in Adobe Audition? Something by Behringer maybe? Because I actually need the voice to be already cleaned up before it even goes in to my pc. Any help would be great! Thanks!

    Hey Psynaps thank you for your template. Are you still using the one you uploaded or have you modified it now? Please let me know if you have links to other templates as I am not yet too familiar with some of the settings/options I could go with. Cheers. I subscribed to your channel. :) I enjoy the content!

    Hey @Psynaps, Thanks alot for the Video.
    But i have a problem. My voice goes everytime out of sync with my Cam. Its always like 2-3 seconds behind my Cam. Is there any way to fix the problem?

    • @rsmrt
      @rsmrt  9 років тому

      +MonsterxPhantom I updated the template for less delay, did you try the update? Some of the effects in Audition can add delay, try unchecking them to see which one is causing the long delay. After playing with it a little, you should find a good balance. Remember too, you can add delay to the camera in OBS to match any short delays introduced by Audition (for me about 150ms).

    Hello! don't know if you still respond to comments etc. but whenever I use my microphone it either:
    -when talking completely statics out and sounds like a webcam mic
    -also whenever I open a program like OBS the input/output resets back to default
    been looking up fixes for a while and can't find anything.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but by using this setup, can you play games with your speakers on and it won't get picked up by the mic?

    • @rsmrt
      @rsmrt  9 років тому

      +guillermo romero Yes worked for me, but it depends on how loud your speakers are of course. I would expect feedback from the speakers into the mic if the speakers were loud enough to pass the threshold. the threshold can be set using these effects in audition.

      GHoSTxReaperZz I use VAC, it is a must. repeater is not open. OBS mic input is "line 1".

    it still says amplify in the project file.
    Also I still get peaks when I get loud even with the hard limiter, but I don't understand enough of it to fix it myself :(

    • @rsmrt
      @rsmrt  8 років тому

      +WolfsGoRawr Amplify actually has less delay so it works better. If you get peaks, lower the mic level in the windows mic settings, and amplify in Audition, this fixes peaks most of the time.

    This is EXACTLY what I was looking for! Very awesome, man! Thanks a ton for this. Unfortunately, I'm getting a tremendous amount of latency between my voice and my video. I use Skype for video communication with my friends while I stream games, so its kind of weird for them to see me talking, and then hear the audio a few seconds later haha...

    • @rsmrt
      @rsmrt  10 років тому +1

      I notice that some effects add a lot of latency, so try disabling some and see if that fixes it. For example I noticed that the "speech volume leveler" effect has been problematic with latency, which is unfortunate. amplify would be a good alternative.

    • @Stupeyfied
      @Stupeyfied 10 років тому

      rsmrt I was kind of thinking that may be what the problem is...basically the latency being caused by the actual processing of the effects that I have added (Not gonna lie, I've been playing around with quite a few of them haha...one of 'em I sounded like Paul Harvey...was awesome). I'll have to give that a shot...just got a new mic in today (Had the Yeti...way too sensitive for my noisy house!)...gonna have to give this another whirl. Thanks again man, your stuff is genious! :)

      I suggest doing this with REAPER. For any of those who find this and inquiry about this comment. It's like Audacity but easier to work with and allows for some easier fades, undos (To the point it can actually remember what you cut AFTER it cut... jeez wtf...) and MUCH easier on the eyes.

    Everything works, i just have one HUGE problem: When I record with OBS after all the setups, my voice is like I recorded it twice with a minor delay. It really sounds like I'm talking to 2 different mics but I dont. I get a really over saturated horrible radio voice on OBS, hell if I know whats the problem, did everything as shown above. I've also tryed to turn off all the effects in Adobe, it is recording my voice as normal but twice at the same time. I've checked "force mic/aux to mono" in OBS but still. It's like having a little echo in my voice, but it sucks. :S

    Im getting sooooo much delay when i use reverb. I mostly stream myself singing and playing guitar so having a little bit of reverb on the input monitor is a huge help for me. This works fine on my mac with logic pro (not streaming), but i guess all these pieces of software in tandem are slowing it down? I'm getting upwards of 6 seconds of delay. Any help would be much appreciated. Great video by the way, thanks

    I wanted to say thanks for an informative video and thanks for the files to download the settings. I haven't streamed or created an actual UA-cam video with these settings yet because I'm still running tests and tweaking things a bit, but so far the test videos have a greatly improved quality. So again, thank you for the info and helping me to improve the quality of my videos audio :) By the way, I'm using a logitech headset with built in mic which isn't the best setup, but in spite of my hardware this has done wonders.

    Nice Guide!
    one question tho, any way to remove click sounds? from keybords and mouse in a live stream?

    • @rsmrt
      @rsmrt  9 років тому

      Zaxaz1990 Thank you for the comment. You can use noise reduction or a directional mic, but even if you do that, it will NOT work well enough if you have a loud keyboard near the mic. For example, mechanical keyboards occupy full freq range by my experience, so you can't simply eliminate the click sound without eliminating everything else. A quiet "stealth" keyboard would be most appropriate for all streamers.

    I gave this a try and I am getting many weird results during my live stream.
    I have to run high latency and I attempt to counter that with the mic sync offset.
    I think doing this is causing my audio to cut in and out. Any way to reduce the processing required? I have a pretty good computer medium-high end. All drivers updated.
