From todays standards, Ocarina of Time isn't that great, definitely not the best Zelda game. But when it was released, Ocarina of Time was groundbreaking, not just because it was the first 3D Zelda game, it was one of the first 3D action adventures and introduced many concepts that we take for granted in todays games. It is a milestone in gaming history. Here some aspects as we know them that were introduced (especially in a 3D space) to gaming with Ocarina of Time: Enemy Lock On Not all enemies attacking at once Context sensitive player input (different functions for a single button, automatic actions depending on where the character is, such as jumping or climbing) Being able to see far off landmarks 3D puzzle design is heavily influenced by Ocarina of Time And for most people it was the first game they played that feels like what we now know as an open world And the amazing thing is: Nintendo got all this right on their first attempt, it all worked very well
I was 5 when Ocarina released and I remember classmates on the playground still talking about secrets they found and characters they liked throughout all the way to middle school. I know at least five people who started playing video games because of how impressive Ocarina was at the time. Not to be a dithering old man, but modern gamers really don't understand how big of a leap forward Ocarina (and Super Mario 64 while we're at it) was for video games at that time. A lot of adults started getting back into games because it showed a lot of people that games weren't just about high scores and beating your friends anymore. There was a big adventure, a world that you not only had to save, but could explore! Characters with personalites that change over time! This had been done in video games before, but Ocarina really let the world know that there was a new standard.
IKR?! I played Symphonia as a kid, it was fun but doesn't hold up today imo. Then on my 360 Vesperia came out and that one was a banger, really good Tales game. Then Zestiria came out and I was wary about it. Watched some gameplay and reviews and just wasn't for me but damn, did Berseria have me hooked. Loved almost everything with the game, I only disliked how long the very end dragged on.
Berseria was a better Zestiria I thought as well. My all time fav Tales game is either Graces or the US Tales of Destiny 2 (can't remember which one that is in Japan).
This! I felt really disappointed when he said Berseria was one of the bad tales games which I thought of as one of the best. But when he said Zestiria was his favorite which I think of as one of the worst tales games ever, I felt relieved since he doesn't know shit at all lmao
I mean he also said Zestiria is the one after Symphonia, so I guess he doesn't really have a decent insight on the franchise. Anyone that have Tales on their top list and that game is not Grace or Abyss or Symphonia (or Berseria for modern classics), I don't trust them with my children.

SAME! I played Zestiria for 24 hours and got bored. I was looking around the internet and it seemed like the general consensus was that it wasn't all that great anyways, so I didn't feel bad about quitting. Then I found Berseria and everyone said it was amazing. I also got sooo tired of the combat in Berseria after 24 hours, but the story was so good I couldn't put it down. I put the time in to do all the side quests I could find. Spent 102 hours in that game and I loved it. even though I kinda hated the combat. Actually, the combat itself was not bad. I really enjoyed getting the combo counter up and pulling off the special moves. (can't remember the names of the moves) The problem was how every battle was basically the same fight and I had to walk through a field for hours trying to avoid all the random monsters because I just wanted to get to the next plot point, and then realizing I still needed to grind so I could beat the next boss.
@@radeemer1 I stopped playing Zesteria immediately because the controls were so bad. You had to not only hold down one button to run, but another button just to move horizontally. Like wth?
Talking about how much more patience you have as a kid. I remember finding my old Ruby and Saphire cartridge for the Gameboy, I had a level 80 Exploud. And the thing is when I was a kid I could never figure out how to progress through the story after Lilycove. So, freaking six or seven-year-old me couldn't even make it to the Elite Four, but managed to train a freaking Exploud to level 80. And grinding past level 40 in those older games is hard enough as it is. I couldn't even imagine doing that today

1:08:18 The funny thing is, I'm pretty sure battalion wars is a spin-off of advance war. Just more real-time strategy instead of turn base. And it fucking slaps, so proud of Connor for it.
The thing is is that if it wasn't a mainstream Nintendo IP, it got buried on Wii. Like BW2 had such a similar art style to the 3d Sims games on wii too. Alot of those games just spawned the atmosphere that unity games do on steam new releases today.

They actually say the same thing every time they start up a Kirby series, it's one of their comfort games -- so I'm like 95% sure that's where Joey got it from too, he's always making a Game Grumps reference at least once every episode.
Here some aspects as we know them that were introduced (especially in a 3D space) to gaming with Ocarina of Time:
Enemy Lock On
Not all enemies attacking at once
Context sensitive player input (different functions for a single button, automatic actions depending on where the character is, such as jumping or climbing)
Being able to see far off landmarks
3D puzzle design is heavily influenced by Ocarina of Time
And for most people it was the first game they played that feels like what we now know as an open world
And the amazing thing is: Nintendo got all this right on their first attempt, it all worked very well
Still can’t get over how disappointed I was playing it for the first time in 2014 after having been so hyped up by the internet
Imagine a world where the game has no lock on system
9:45 Joey "Berseria? Oh that's the not good one"

@@MelloxMaster Yeah... I have only played Tales of Berzeria and Zesteria and they both drag on a WHILE. But Berzeria felt better paced
Berseria was a better Zestiria I thought as well. My all time fav Tales game is either Graces or the US Tales of Destiny 2 (can't remember which one that is in Japan).
@@MelloxMaster I think that's the problem. Symphonia was great for its time while Berseria was just a slightly above average game for its time

ikr, Zestiria is probably the only Tales game that I don't care about anyone in the official party.
Yeah, that was a truly shit take.
