I was a fighter jet crew chief in the USAF from Aug. 1974- Aug 1980. I crewed the iconic and legendary F-4 Phantom jet first at Holloman AFB NM and then Osan AB S Korea. When I left Holloman in Aug. 1976 I was sent to Osan, Holloman got the F-15 the following year. When I left Osan after a year there, they got the F-15 the next year. I kept missing getting the chance to crew the F-15. I was sent to England AFB after my tour at Osan and I was with the Flying Tigers. We had A-7D Corsairs. Just before being discharged in Aug. 1980 I was in charge of the end of the runway crew. My job was to do the last inspection on the A-7D at the end of the runway and make sure it was air worthy. If it was I would give the thumbs up to my two weapons mechanics to arm the jet. One morning there were two F-15 sitting underneath the tower. The tail letters were HO. Holloman my first yard. Needless to say I got all pumped up and told my four weapons mechanics that I was going to have the F-15's put on show for us when they took off so be ready. When they started taxing towards us at the end of the runway i stepped out of our shack and started jumping up and down while moving my right arm in a motion letting the pilots know that I wanted to see a 90 degree take off. As they taxied by us the first pilot ignored me and the second looked at me, saluted me and gave me a thumbs up. They parked at the end of the runway side by side. The first one wound the TF100 engines up and put it into afterburner which by the way they do not need to take off so I knew he was going to do the 90 degree take off. Wheels started to come up just before the first 1K foot marker. He held all the way down the 12k runway about 100 feet off the runway, turned and then went straight up!!!!! I could not believe my eyes. Plus it happened to be a clear sky morning. No clouds perfect day for it. Took my eye off of one to see two do the same thing. after that I tried to get back to one but lost sight of them both, could only hear the roar off the engines. I went up in an F-4 at Holloman. That's the photo you see of me. Would have loved to have had the chance to go up in the Eagle.

@@warfarenotwarfair5655 I love the C-130. I went on a TDY from Osan to Clark in the PI and we flew down there on a C-130. Five hour flight and the thing I most remember was sitting on the rear doors and loosing money playing black jack with my boys. My ass was colder than a well diggers ass! And I lost money to boot. I was there for the show on Sunday, and it was impressive! Interestingly, a slick F-15QA flew early in the show, and this heavily loaded F-15QA flew near the end of the show. Both were highly maneuverable, although the slick version was a bit better. I'm amazed that the F-15 airframe has been so competitive for over 50(?) years.

@@zbeen-ah-lah F-14A/B/D were hangar queens. From 1973-1997, fleet average Maintenance Man Hours Per Flight Hour were 40-60 hours. Same as the Harrier. Legacy F-15A-E is 22-38hrs, which also isn't great, but not as bad.
F-16 is 11-22hrs, which was pretty unprecedented.
      F-35A is 3.8-5.8hrs.
      F-35B is 5-8hrs.
      F-35C is 5-9hrs.
First 10 years of operational service in the F-14A saw 79 crashes/airframe losses with 19 fatalities, which was surprisingly-low.
F-16 was 143 losses, 71 fatalities its first 10 years, also low for a single engine.
F-35A in 18yrs: 4 write offs, 1 fatality in Japan
      F-35B in 16yrs: 6 write-offs, 0 fatalities
      F-35C in 15yrs: 1, 0 fatalities
For Fleet Defense, the F-35C brings capabilities the F-14 could only dream of, as several F-14D systems development guys were involved in JSF. F-35C actually has longer legs than a 2-tank Tomcat with GE motors, vastly-superior sensors and SA, plus ISR capability that covers into maritime patrol and ASW territory. It's the easiest fighter to bring aboard a carrier in Naval history as well.

I believe the inspiration for the MIG-25 is the The North American XF-108 Rapier. It was a proposed long-range, high-speed interceptor aircraft designed by North American Aviation intended to defend the United States from supersonic Soviet strategic bombers. The aircraft would have cruised at speeds around Mach 3. It was loosely based on the XB-70 Valkyrie. The Mig-25 was developed to counter both. www.google.com/imgres?q=xf-108&imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fnationalinterest.org%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fmain_images%2FA730%2520%25281%2529_1.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fnationalinterest.org%2Fblog%2Fbuzz%2Fmeet-xf-108-rapier-why-mach-3-fighter-never-went-war-sky-164249&docid=JJl-S_yEmB4_SM&tbnid=oymNUAhkJjoBJM&vet=12ahUKEwiX6Kfvn96GAxXpD0QIHVIYD44QM3oECBkQAA..i&w=1305&h=897&hcb=2&ved=2ahUKEwiX6Kfvn96GAxXpD0QIHVIYD44QM3oECBkQAA

@@rosieclark3661Nice try, Ivan. The F15 was influenced by the Mig design in that American engineers designed it to COUNTER the Mig25s "claimed" abilities which were exaggerated.
      It was not "reverse engineered".
Your low IQ was reverse engineered.

Great video. The F-15's have been and will be a very capable fighter. Having all of the different Fighter jets at different capabilities is very beneficial for the USAF. F-16's , F-15's , F-35's , F-22's and all other planes that are a part of the available planes. Aim High.

If those dummy missiles are weight-representative of the AMRAAM, that demo was even more impressive!
An Iraqi MiG-25 hit a US F-15 with a radar-guided missile, and before that a Syrian Mig-21 hit an Israeli F-15 with a heat-seaking missile, but in both instances the F-15 was able to return to base. So those weren't exactly "wins" for the F-15, but they weren't "kills" either.
