    I have the Mora No.3. Their carbon steel is supreme quality. Such a useful blade for carving, craft and general work. They have lots of scope for modding. They are great for carving and biting into the very hardest of hard woods and retaining their keen edge. For battoning you should be absolutely fine with the Mora Robust. One of the few knives which could not be broken on the Joe X channel. All hail Mora!

    One of my favorites but it’s a long list. I’m considering getting the Opinel 10 for food prep if not maybe just modifying the blade from my Opinel paring knife to fit one of the folders

    Wonderful video! I really enjoyed all the demonstrations. As you probably know, I have one that was modified a long time ago. After watching this video, I'm thinking of getting another and modifying it differently (what's wrong with me?) :-D They are just so iconic, and they work. As for batoning, I've come to trust the ones I have so much, I have no problem batoning with them if I need to. I just don't hit the handle.. :-)
    Thanks for the fun. I got a big kick out of your ferro rod! It's so huge!! Hahaha! :-)

      saradreaming One of my Mora Classic no2 handle mods is based on one of your videos, where I saw and liked your handle mods, a lot! Nothing wrong with getting more of the Classic series! I have a few no2 classics and will be getting another no1. I really love this knife. I know..I said "hit the handle" when I meant "hit the tip" or "hit the spine", I cannot really remember. Sorry about that..lol! That ferro rod is something else, isn't it? Thank you for your very kind comments (about the video and my ferro rod)! I really enjoy hearing from you, my friend! -Dave

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  9 років тому +1

      phyllis mulkey I am glad I could help! Mustard actually works really well. You can also mix in a bit of apple cider vinegar to the mustard (not to much..you still want the thick consistency) and that leaves a nice patina. Thank you for watching and leaving such nice comments! I really appreciate it! -Dave

Thanks, again for your support! -Dave

      MegaWoodswalker Thanks for watching, my friend! I love the no2 as well, but there is just something about the smaller handle size of the no1 that I like a lot! You are exactly right, they are all great, especially the Classic series. Do you have the no3? I have never used that one. That "Super Monster" ferro rod is something else, isn't it? Great to hear from you, brother! -Dave

    I liked your presentation. Like I said, I had a No2 and liked it. Gave it to a friend. Now, after seeing this, I think I will look for a No1. But I will surely strio the paint on the handle and put some gun wax on it for better grip.
    Such cool knives....
    thanks for sharing this ... also for the shoutout ;)

      SpartanJohns Thank you, Denis! I appreciate that. I highly recommend this knife. To be honest, the smaller handle of the no1 fit my hand more securely than the no2. Just that little size difference made a big impact. Although, nothing wrong with modifying the handle, my friend! I agree..such cool knives. I have been waiting years to repeat that line you said about Mora. The absolute best tag-line for Moras that I have ever heard, my brother! -Dave

    Say Heah Dave, That's my baby I attached to my Bokor Black Rold Sheath after I put a Nylon Belt Loop with handle guard, The handle strap was a little too loose because of the handle shape of my Rold. So I thought of several options and took my time thinking of what to do. At first I was going just stitch it to pull up the slack, Then I thought of putting a small light there, which I think is also a good idea, But the Mora Classic #1 fit perfectly, and it looks great, The Classic is so lite that it doesn't add hardly any weight and yet I have two great knives to work wood with. I also attached my Bokor Coye Ridgeback Sheath to my Benchmade Arvensis 119 Sheath, It's OK, But I wish tge Ridgeback Sheath was a Pancake instead I'd tge taco shape. But I'm still very happy how both of them turned out, Go Tribe.

      I love it, it's part of my EDC. it's like your #1, just a bit shorter. a three finger knife, actually, or maybe a good knife for kids. that way kids will learn not to get their hand onto the blade, no finger guard, that's good training ;) I like it. It is absolutely sufficient for the kind of work you and I do with it. Wood for the hobo stove, some whittling, the small, everyday tasks. and it fits into my pocket. :)

    Say Heah Dave, I heard some people say that the handle on the Classic is too smooth, so they cut grooves and other things to the handle. But if you compare the Mora Classic #1 and the 510 the blades are virtually the same except for the handle. I actually like the handle on the 519, it's plastic but I can grip it and it's not going anywhere, It really locks into my hand. Just a F.Y.I. for your viewers. Laterz, Dave.

    Say Heah Dave, A while ago I bought the Bokor Black Rold, A real nice knife, But the Sheath was dangerously loose and it bit me but good one morning getting ready for a trip. Since then I put a belt loop on the sheath and it's very safe now. But the handle strap is a little loose, So I put my Mora Classic #1 on it @nd its perfect now. Not only did it pick up the slack, But I have my Mora Classic #1 right there, Aces. Everything matches and fits great, I even attached my Wenger pouch and even tge red cross matches, The Rold has red Liners and of cource the red handle, I took it out on a hike and coffee and brought my Bacho Laplander which I carried it in my Haversack and my Mora Hatchet which I carried on one of Eugene's Axe Holster, They really make a great quality Leather product. And very reasonably price. Everything just fit perfectly. Go Tribe heh heh heh

  • @paulie4x1

    Dave, a little suggestion, Use just the tip of your Ferro Rod, So it only wears down from the front up, you don't need to strike from that high up, "a little dab will do ya" heh heh heh

    • @HighCarbonSteelLove
      @HighCarbonSteelLove  8 років тому

      +paulie 4x I get the best luck using the full length of the rod, removing as much material as possible, especially with the 5" ferro rod I use. -Dave

    Im very dissapointedwith mora robust pro. I cut a pizza and its very stained. Also the blade is dull!!!
    I cleaned the blade with some very fine glass paper and sharpened again with 400, 800 and 2000. Its a cheap knife and the price say everything about it. It may be robust but its a knife not an axe. And its good only to be used like an axe... Ill never buy Mora again.
