IUNI happy to.
So beautiful! Just last week I discovered this channel and I started watching all of the videos from oldest to newest. 7 hours in, and I feel like these videos drastically enhance my standard of living as a NYC design student trying to freelance for expenses.
Virginia deGuzman wow!!
Thank you for the extremely helpful video!! Excellent information and perfectly paced as well. I just started learning to design during covid and have 0 clue about typography but this and many other Futur videos have helped immensely. Really appreciate it
I'm digging these videos, good work futur team!
Amazing Video. I’m in love with letters after seeing this and I’ll work on my handwriting! So inspirational, informative and fun. Perfect. ❤️🙏🏾🌸
This is great stuff, we appreciate the work. Keep it up guys

the hard work in which you guys put into your videos truly amazes me and has taught me loads. really grateful and thanks for all the hard work chris and team!
we have a good team of people. that's what makes it possible.
Love it! Educational, nice and simple.
This is beautiful. Thank you for this video!
This video reminds me of the good ole times at design school... Which is like 2 years ago, man I'm such a noob I forgot half of these stuff, thank you this is handy lmao
Dude could you please tell me what is the anatomy of the letter Z??
Beautifully expressed and labled!
Love it! Thanks!
So beautiful!
I only knew a couple of these but, glad this is now here so that I can use it as a reference. Thank you for posting it!! Well made and enjoyed the back ground music.
thanks! we'll keep making more of these videos along with our business series.
Great content. Keep it up!
Great video! Thanks guys! Little note: The definition of "serif" and "leg" are the exact same.
Not what I'd call essential but the inclusion of a gadzook is much appreciated. Antiquated glyphs are bae.
Thank you Chris for sharing this amazing video. You guys are awesome.
You're very welcome.
Hey Chris would you mind making this into a crash course type series? Just 10-20 videos explaining all the design fundamentals. I feel like you guys are the only ones that have both the quality and the platform right now.
Stephan K that's a big undertaking.
thanks for sharing.good info.
LOVE this! As a Calligrapher @SaltLightCalligraphy, these terms are applicable to beautiful calligraphy too.
most definitely!
Awesome video! Keep up the great content, love the channel!
PS: Careful with looping the music at 2:27
Impale blame Pablo.
What happened with CROSS STROKE? The full definition is missing.
I liked before Isee it. Suck a gem. ❤️ thanks a lot for your work. Greetings from Lisbon.
Good Anatomy Typography. TQ Dr Leen Mafea Malaysia
I dig it.
simply beautiful. thank you
Appreciate it.
This is unreal. Well done! Sigh, I just took a 4 week course to learn what's in this 4 minute video. Lol.
consider donating to the futur.
Only goes to show how much I do not know, and how much more I am yet to learn.
Awesome Vid Chris!
TenoDaley thanks.
I have seen many such videos about type. This one is the smallest yet it has everything!
Good going guyz!
Can you do a video about Type Arrangement?
yes. we can.
The Futur Thank you! Appreciate it!
Some parts of a letter fall under more than one of these titles (i.e. a stem is also a stroke and a terminal can have a serif in it) so I think it's important to mention that these names are not exclusive.
*thank you*
wonderful ;)
pretty good.
you should make more fundamental videos, that would be really great. i.e color theory
what do you want to know about color theory?
The Futur I want to learn about what makes a great color scheme in my projects.
how to choose nice colors
hitting us with the FACTSSSS :)
Thank you! Omar Farook
are the definitions for Leg and Serif suppose to be the same?
Thanks for the help, Blind team. I picked up some books from your recommendations and look forward to teaching myself more. (:
awesome! did you use our links?
No. I bought the books used to save money. I've been eyeing one of those Futur mugs in the store, so I'll try to support the team's work.
all good.
Can you please help me like how to use these in design?
You make a typography an art.
just curious, when do you need this information
Great video! Chris.
What typographic books do you recommend for fresh graduate?
Really hard to choose a typeface when I do branding...
in the episode description.
Hey, could you guys to a video on mocking up design work such as branding, or how to photograph it? Thanks!!
yep. that sounds reasonable. do you prefer building from scratch or buying one?
I wouldn't mind either. I guess it would depend on the budget right? I want to invest in a camera but not sure if doing digital mock ups are just as good
Jean Paul Pretto they're just as good.
The Futur, I imagine so. Tips on how to do it would be much appreciated!
ok Jean Paul.
Good video. So simple but quite breathtaking & educational (of course). But why the descriptions are small? I kinda hard to see it. Nevertheless it's cool. The animation is also so elegant.
nice
Nice video, never heard of a "gadzook" before! Just a heads up that it looks like the cross bar section is missing part of the definition.
Tom Munz yep. Oversight.
What app(s) and techniques did you folks use to combine music sountrack and art reveals in this Typo Terminology video? Very cool, I think this could be used to improve pedal steel tablature, which is very detailed and hard to read. Thanks!
we use after effects and do everything in that program (visuals+sound)
Thanks!
helpful
I have a question❗️
Do we need to learn all the pieces and names ?
I might be mistaken but it looks like the definition for "cross stroke" is missing a word or two. Thanks for the video though! I'm taking notes c:
thanks. typo.
THERE'S A TYPO AT 1:34
"JOINT | where a storke meets a stem"
Awesome video! Now let's do this for Chinese characters 😂
Arun Chithambaram you will have to do it. Clueless.
Nice, of course,, and I'm assuming it is coming now as a PDF so that the guys can download, right? Cheers!
it'll be in the new typography manual we are designing.
Very nice, then.Ty!
Very nice! What's the font used in this vid?
mrs. eaves, (it's also in the episode description).
The Futur Thanks! It's beautiful! :)
ANOTHER MISTAKE AT 2:33
"CROSS STROKE | extends across a..."
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Page 12 of 23, "stroke" is misspelled as "storke"
yep. we know. once we finished the video and uploaded, we caught the typo.
Typo at 1:33! "Joint| where a storke meets a stem"
I know this video is from 3 years ago but at 1:33 stroke is misspelt as storke
is that Baskerville?
no. mrs. eaves. check the show description.
The Futur thanks for the nice vid!
1:33
stroke, not storke!
typo.
first!
Was gadzook a joke? ... who named that XD
This video was NOT designed for mobile.
This is a classic example of what I consider a golden standard for every freaking class, course, tutorial, studying material, everything. Everything should be packed into minutes video. Khan Academy.
Teaching isn't something like showing off your dominance, besides, your power is nothing but the power of information owning, it's information asymmetry, it's a privilege you inherited, not earned, it's also outdated, it's not advanced and front-end anymore, you are not even capable of utilizing the information effectively and properly, all of the information is now a default requirement to everyone, some of it is even useless already, but some of the teacher / school were keeping it to themselves and treat it as some kind of asset that makes them superior to others who does not own the information, which is bs, it slows down the entire human race, get in the way of human progress, making every expensive for no good reason, resulting shitty product and shitty society, then it causes social structure to be unstable because human race is lazy and stupid more and more because the lack of knowledge, which later becoming more and more incapable of creating value, keep things move forward in general, but people can not go backward on their lifestyle, so where's the money come from? now let's riot, fight for survival, kill all the top class, world war three, great.
Fired up!
