The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in the world put masks on when they don't have make-up or when they feel inssecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dystopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the Cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply, it shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are right now...

IU produced and did the lyrics. her mvs always have deeper meaning. There's a sign (1:24) when they first come in to the place when they find the camcorder that reads " " RISE FOR ALL" ...think thats a social commentary for the oppressors and for state of world , esp. these days. Most missed that sign..cause IU and V are so captivating. lol IU can't speak and V cant see out one eye... cube is like hate/society projections.Maybe we have to start standing up for love and for others discriminated or oppressed?
I feel IU and V have seen so much of how South Korea media, police and citizens can cause so much hate, pressure and judgement that people start to commit suicides at times. IU has known least 3 close idol young friends that exp this. Also recently, in headlines. Famous Actor from oscar winning movie "parasite" had recently passed due to all the pressure of media police, even though he was found negative in his drug tests. IU was main lead actress to him in a different show called. "My Mister". What an amazing message and masterpiece, truly deserves a Award in every category.
Tae & IU both nailed it ❤but i dont agree with that LWA is abt disabled or minority ppl or apocalyptic , alien , zombie theorys interpretations & I also believe that it's NOT abt IU protecting Tae and they're representing them both just as couple in a love story.... the MV has a defferent deeper meaning like Celebrites / artists like them in the entertainment industry judged by ppl/fans / haters abt their personal choices in love life IU ( her charecter is deaf or mute in the MV) representing ppl in love the ones who don't want to HEAR or TALK what the society /fans tell them wrong and right abt their personal life / Love life Taehyung (his character is partialy blind) representing True/pure LOVE = Love doesn't need to be perfect it just need to be TRUE or LOVE IS BLIND ( Tae showing almost every emotions of LOVE : Fear , cuteness , pure , tender , Joyful /playful , romance , togetherness . helplessness , bravery , Rage , calmness...in 5 minute MV Dammnn!! IU can't hear and V’s one eye can't see ,in the end IU covered the good eyes of Taehyung so he won't see the horrible ending in front of them ,im Stuck at how a single tear from Taehyung’s good eye traced its path down his face and IU’s hand gently covered his eyes, It's as if he found a momentary refuge in her touch, offering a subtle relief from the overwhelming sensation ... AH I CAN'T STOP CRYING 😢😢😢❤
Correction : IU can hear she’s just mute not deaf (explained by the MV director in an interview). The lip ring represents the difficulties to communicate
This MV is a masterpiece. Because we all see so very much in this video. For me IU was protecting V guiding him from the hardships of life. After their marriage V then becomes the staunch protector. IU is mute and V blinded by the trials and tribulations of life. The clothes hardens back to BTSs Spring Day. The sense of loss. As if this was the final destination for so many desperatetlovers. IU and V are actors but this video went so much further. She shows her level of love when she covers his eye but watches their final end. I cried for their loss because so many are against love and hate for no reason. Brilliance personified.

Can we talk about how professionally and perfectly taehyung showed vulnerability along defense(safe guarding)here. His body language, the desperation in his eyes, and vulnerability gosh he is so good. Im so stun.😢😢taehyung was born to be a great singer, a wonderful actor, a dancer, a writer and a producer. he was born to be korea's treasure and its pride taehyung was born to always be the best at everything
I knew this mv was going to be excellent, but I didn't expect it to move we all like this. The tenderness (almost innocence?) between them was so disarming. And then the hopelessness of it all... I was so immersed that I could feel their fear and despair.. V and IU's acting and chemistry are so excellent. I loved the fact that Taehyung was not the stereotypical fearless male lead. That man was terrified (he acted it so well!!) and that made everything, including his moment of bravery, feel even more real.

Iu and v were terrified from "Nemo" because they know it destroys them but Based on the interpretation of the director "iu and v flying at the end means that they are free now" so that means their love won against the oppression and discrimination "Nemo".LOVE WINS ALL" 🖤
When IU sings, there are people dressed in black clothes in the crowd who are not congratulating them, but pointing fingers at them. This scene shows that even in a world overflowing with hate, love is enough to win
There are so many layers of story telling and metaphors and the director has explained what the storyline is. It’s a beautiful way for him to convey the message. In addition to this one part of my interpretation is based on the fact that Tae is blind in one eye and has burn scars around that eye. You can see at the beginning he is looking vulnerable, fragile and afraid. IU is leading him and is protective throughout. My interpretation is that he had encountered the cube before and narrowly escaped being captured and so is going through all the emotions from it. At the end, you see IU trying to protective him by picking up the metal bar because (to me) she knows what he went through and wants to protect him. And Tae taking the bar and attacking the cube looks to me like he knows what the cube is capable of and despite his fear of it, he wants to protect her. At the end it didn’t work and you can see the cube glow red with heat and smoke coming off their bodies (burn marks around his eyes). The ending was so poignant.
The song was amazing and felt more epic because of the storyline and visuals. They have great chemistry, first with the amazing duet they did on IU’s Palette and now with their acting skills, not to mention their interactions as friends. It’s so good to see Tae being able to express his acting skills even in a 5minute short. I hope he starts doing movies on his return. This movie really makes everyone feel emotional and they did that with their facial expressions, truly stunning. IU is queen for a reason and Tae our idol of idols never disappoints in his unique take on life and the choices he makes, whether to make an album of music he likes or to act in a short film all choices with a sad, emotionally moving ending. He wants his artistry to move us emotionally rather than hit the top spots on charts. Love these two artists. It’s time to stop calling this kpop.

V AMAZING acting out all these emotions of fear happiness sorrow furious, in a 5 minute music video is crazy because we see actors failing to act out a single emotion in an 1 hour long episode but here he is, the versatility is showing 😭They they forgot what they were running from because through the lens of the camera, they were able to just love and enjoy life until the reality caught up to them and they were taken away ICRY 😭😭❤

As a hardcore kpop fan, i have seen many music videos. MANY MANY OK. And this one takes the win...it came out 2 DAYS, okay 2 DAYS ago. And this one takes the win for user. Agreed! I believe it's a metaphor for what isn't considered "normal" and the discrimination against that. It feels very true to current events in today's current world 🌎

It's a love ballad that applies to All people who love. The box is an apparatus that is meant to "contain" people or objects in a confined atmosphere. In my opinion, this speaks to societal's objection to love that is out of the norm.

Thanks for your reaction, in the MV there's so many little details to observe and love, like in the end when IU hug V, he take's her hand and he's shaking and she touch him 3 times on the shoulder, for the not speaking language that means "I LOVE U" 😭even in there last moment they both took care of each other reassuring their love.
There are so many theories as to what the MV portrays but not many about the lyrics so I’m really curious as to what you both feel about the song. IU sounds incredible, her voice heartbreaking, filled with emotion. Their acting is superb, conveying fear, joy, sorrow and acceptance. Tae is just amazing. I would have loved to hear him on the track. This video broke me. It’s soul crushing. There is no romance or beauty in death. 🫰🏻💜

Since it was released by her agency as an explanation, I doubt they would want to portray any particular meaning and as the director stated leave the interpretation to the listener. 💜
Hi Cheryl, the song lyrically is dedicated to IU’s fans who have accompanied her throughout all the highs and lows according to the letter she released before this release. Her letter was very touching and goes to quite some length. I was really moved by it. It’s also a message that IU said in the age of hate, love truimphs and is always more powerful. 💜

V is blind in one eye and She is mute, they are imperfect in a society that is constantly trying to be perfect. Society wants them to fit into the cube/square. The clothes also reminds us of Spring Day - not valued enough to save or rescue to fit in. IU loves Spring Day and even has it on one of her albums. Seems like they are viewing their former life or what life could be in a lens of camcorder. True love, value the person, or mind of others. Looks isn't everything which we find out when someone opens their mouth how deep and human they are in their thoughts. Love, Love, Love, Love, is all in the eye/lens of the beholder.
No doubt helped write this storyline. Too much like LOVE ME AGAIN. The camer, vintage scene, BTS House of Cards,Spring Day, Zero O'clock, too much V coded, his thoughts, V love for Harry Styles AS IT WAS, dreaming of people just loving, good times, no unfairness, . If u can't win- just escape to where u can love freely. V CODED

It's easy to make subtle links to other MV's with every MV that comes out. Stop making it about BTS.
So many are saying the pile of clothes 'copies' Spring Day when it doesn't:
The 'pile of clothes' in Spring Day was a metaphor for loss and longing; RM said it was inspired by the loss of a friend, but also the Bong Joon Ho movie 'Snowpiercer' and the book 'The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas' by Ursula K. Le Guin; and though there are links that imply a connection to the Sewol Ferry disaster, BTS have never confirmed it.
The artistic imagery of the pile of clothes BTS MV producers used in Spring Day is in homage to the artistic installation 'Personnes' by Christian Boltanski, 2010. An installation which speaks of souls who weren't ready to die, but died painfully ~ the implication being at the hands of others. In this case, in the IU MV, the 'hands' being society in the way it mocks (as in the faceless chaos of figures in the banquet scene IU and Taehyung fight off), marginalises and discriminates against those who do not fit into the box others/society judge should be the 'norm' (the box that is chasing them).
You're literally doing what the film illustrates ~ changing the narrative into something that fits in the box you choose for Taehyung.
@sula.bheinn I guess everyone has their own interpretation of the storyline. Just like you do. So now I don't have to fit into your box. Stop trying to take away people's imagination with your negative response box maker. This is also stated and shown in this video narrative. And yes, Tae did have ideas and input into the storyline as well. Stop yourself.

The expressions on your faces as you watched this amazing video was outstanding. We could see all your emotions. IU & V did such an incredible job on this. Not a word was spoken, but it was so loud!
This video concept is breathtaking. I had no for knowledge of IU but she and V are exceptional.
V has acted before-and oviously has an incredible talent for it, so this MV surely shows us that. I don't know when or how he might pursue an acting career, but he surely needs to be cause he is amazing! UI is also an actress (proven as well), so both have a future in that vein if they wish to continue with it, but her song (and voice) is so beautiful as well. I fall short of words to describe the talents these two possess-is their anything they (and all of BTS for that matter) cannot do?!??! AMAZING!

I think the box signifies judgement(?). People confine themselves into boxes that they deem “normal” however the two main characters are different than “normal” due to their blindness and deafness. The images they see each other through the camcorder is how they view each other in a perfect world. Just normal and no different than others but people will always judge and criticize people who are different from them. The people in the black masks are those who judge them but since they are viewing themselves in a world with no hate or judgement they don’t care that they are surrounded by them and continue to dance sing and love each other. However, reality hits.
Love Wins All is a tragically beautiful song and music video. I am addicted to this song even if I torture myself all over again 😅. Congratulations IU and V. Thank you for this reaction video.

I love this MV. It makes me bawl like a baby. I interpret it as: they found each other in this crazy world where they're always running, they have so much working against them like maybe deafness, blindness, difficulty communicating but they're still trying, they get some respite from time to time in this fantasy in which everything is perfect and they enjoy it but theyre again being chased and end having to protect each other from the threat. They are consumed by it, as was everyone who went before. But maybe it's not that bad? They shed what they didn't need... it's bloody beautiful but gut wrenching. And the lyrics are amazing 💜
This is by far, the best interpretation among all that I've read. Apart from the director's explanation, this interpretation sums it up beautifully in the most simple-yet-detailed manner.

Yes, acting awards are in V's future! Here's my personal interpretation, since you asked for it.
As the cube seems to be destroying their world, their initial main focus is to survive. IU is deaf and V is blind in 1 eye. The camcorder allows them to see a world where things are clean and safe. In the midst of all the trouble and threats around them, they chose to maybe escape the harsh reality for a moment using their imagination, They pretend to eat and drink and party! Remember that they found the wedding outfits while they were in that building? This tells me this is not a memory. Instead, they chose to "play" and do a pretend wedding where they can sing and dance and celebrate their love. They also chose to play with whatever was available to them (using the video tapes to throw at the wall). Did you notice that in the photo booth, they both looked clean and perfect but the pictures that came out were of them all bruised and battered and V had the blind eye? Again, their imagination vs the reality that they're choosing to ignore for a moment.
Acting was awesome up to the point when the the evil cube shows up again. Now the acting intensifies 100X and takes us all to a place of shock and grief. I believe that the cube somehow incinerated or vaporized them and they died together. All that was left were the wedding outfits that fell into the pile of clothes. To me, this means that they died because the pile of clothes has a special meaning in Korea. Remember the MV for Spring Day? And they seem to be only ones remaining so all those clothes piled up point to hundreds of people who have met the same fate at that location. So, yes, their love won because they were together to the very end, and maybe because they are no longer in the physical world, they are now FREE in a sense.
Bottomline, this is a whole lotta WOW, just WOW! Great song, superb acting in an intriguing storyline and LOTS OF EMOTION! Praise to IU and V and kudos to the director, too!

My take on this video is that V is blind from one eye and deaf. She is very protective of him because of his disabilities. He is everything to her, My dearest darling my universe. The people in all black with no face are the outside forces interfering in their lives and their love for one another. Their love is trying to survive daily through out their lives. The camera is their memories of each other of when things are right in their relationship and life. Their memories help them fight for the survival of their love. The cube represents death and also negativity from society. Unfortunately death is something they can’t escape but while sharing their love together they are not alone when that time comes. Both are sharing the ups and downs of life and of being in love, til death do we part. Therefore, their love won against this harsh cruel world until the very end. Камера показывает как они могли бы жить в обществе, если бы были полноценными. Айю глухонемая а Тэ не видит одним глазом. Общество всегда неоднозначно относилось и относится к неполноценным людям и это очень печально. Но их любовь побеждает все предрассудки. Куб это общественность,которая уничтожает людей отличающихся от общей массы. Но это мое видение этого сюжета.

She is deaf and he is blind in one eye. You can see his one blue eye and scared face. She can't hear so she can't speak, so through the camera they see themselves whole. He can see and she can sing. In the end they are taken/ Love your platform. Some say it's about the hardship of K Pop and how you have to be perceived perfect but in reality you are imperfect.

Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone that he can hear what is coming but she can't while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.

The true definition of this MV as both having a disability and how the box takes all the vulnerable people as if they don't belong in this World and deserve to be happy because of their defects. That's why they show the alternative World where they imagine a World where they can blend in with the rest of the world and be happy. This resonates with me on a personal level as i also have a disability.

I really really loved this reaction because you were so thorough! You first offered your own thoughts but then you took the time to actually go into more depth and the inclusion of the official interpretation guide was such a nice, considered touch!
Some other bits of information as well as my own thoughts on the MV…
the song lyrically is dedicated to IU’s fans who have accompanied her through out all the highs and lows according to the letter she released before this release. Her letter was very touching. It’s also a message that in the age of hate, love truimphs and is always more powerful.
It’s so interesting to see how wrong some of us were… and how right some of us were in terms of interpretation or what they intended to show… and I was pleased that some of the points I was right on but I totally didn’t pick up on the ending being positive actually… and ‘freeing them from oppression and pressure’. I thought it was a sad ending initially. It’s so interesting to rewatch the MV after reading the official interpretation guide too. I think it’s a good lesson on our very preconceived ideas of love. But not for Jared though who totally picked up on some of the implied meanings.
Personally when I first watched it… the MV moved me to tears. The song was intricately and exquisitely beautiful… IU’s Vocals gave me goosebumps. The subtlety in the acting was perfection and the visuals by both… just wow. Tae in all his sweetness, softness and gentleness was honestly the definition of prettiness. There was something so beautifully vulnerable and delicate about him, that touched my soul.
In terms of the meaning (in addition to what was included in the interpretation guide)… In the Korean press releases of this song used in all the articles a few days ago… IU said that: ‘I want to respect and support everyone who loves and lives in various ways with love rather than hate’ this and the statement released before when the song was called Love Wins was released, which talked about people who face prejudices and obstacles in love… Personally make me think that it’s showing that many people in love face stigma’s and obstacles for whatever reason in life for things that they are born with and have no control over. Personally I think when they look through the camera they see the perfect world in which everyone can live without the lens of hate where people don’t see you or judge you for your stigma’s or labels but they see the whole you. Another thing that I find beautiful with the sign language involved is that both IU and Tae have a history of sign language. IU with her ear condition and Tae has communicated in official sign language many times (his birthday is even celebrated by some of the deaf community in S.K).
I also feel the box was representing the hate that tears people down and strips them of their humanity out of prejudice. Personally I feel there was a wider message in this MV and feel that Tae very specifically chose to appear in this MV because of the message. I’ve lost count of times over the years where he has said he would like to side with the marginalised or the minority in life. From the creation of his drawn characters in numerous content, to his BT21 character, to his fairytale character he chose in the 7th Army Zip content that was tragically killed for being different. I feel like this MV very much fits with that ethos of representing and identifying with the marginalised in society. Also I think the message that love allows us to see the world with a healing and whole lense too. When IU sings ‘all love wins’ in amongst the lyrics I got goosebumps. After all ALL love is love.

In the story IU is Deaf , Taehyung (V) is one side blinded, That square box seems to be the entity that destroys those marginalized people, the camcorder seems to covers all the pain that they're experiencing. I am still blown away with extremely strong feelings when I watch it and in awe of IU and V’s heartfelt performances- just wow. My take on this gem is the following . We all want that true love - no matter what obstacles come our way . We stick together through thick and thin and as long we have each other nothing else matters. IU and V did a masterful job expressing the song lyrics and message. IU’s voice is piercing my heart. Their chemistry is palpable .Nemo could be anything that is trying to prevent us from being our true selves. Those piles of clothing hit me real hard and I found them very disturbing. I see them as little traces of what we may leave behind that could tell something about us once we are gone….everything passes only love stays. I definitely needed tissues every single time .
