Quick tip for everyone is to niche down, it helps with competition. I niched down to SaaS digital tool dashboards for workplaces for b2b startups and I have 3 real life projects and my portfolio which includes positive testimonials. 👎Downside is that you can't apply for just any UX position, which makes you search for that role you are niching down to. 👍But the upside is that if I apply for relevant position I am the first one they are reaching out and during the interview they try very hard to convince me to work for them sometimes even making the hiring process easier just for me.
@@starogre in todays market could be anything. But companies usually prefer you more if you have not necessarily the best designs and experience, but the most relevant designs and experience. I think as a young professional with 2 years of experience in a relevant field is going to give better chances of getting the job than 5 years senior designer who has a very diverse portfolio and not a single piece that is relevant for that position. Maybe I am wrong. But thats the impression i have.
agreed, also niching comes off as confident and generally people like being looked after by someone they can trust. I think you can have a few niches though and just target them separately if you want to cover more bases, but it might be spreading yourself too thin.
Cool advice. I never knew what does niching down actually entail. Is it just a matter of adding SaaS to your job title and filtering your search or there are other steps you have to take?
Thank you for the very informative video. As a not a native English speaker I appreciate your clear/understandable English and the speed at which you speak).
It's not a burn on apple or HiG (which are pretty useful as a starting point) but rather people who write those generic silly descriptions because it's pretty meaningless :)
@@MalewiczHype Wow! You are doing fantastic! I research a lot of informational videos and I think you are one of the best speakers, very engaging, concise, and enjoyable to watch. I can't say that for many speakers out there. I understand what it's like to be an introvert too, as I am one! This is only my third comment on UA-cam ever! lol Keep doing what you are doing!
Thank you! It really means a lot - I'm constantly thinking I'm not good enough for this and considering quitting (in March I quit for a whole month but decided to come back) - it's a battle for us introverts ;)

Those are very good tips!
Sadly the first they reach out to could be random or a referred or internal candidate.

Thanks Michal💙and for sharing nice things how not to design a portfolio💗
My pleasure! It's a drop in the bucket but about 80% of junior portfolios have some of the same issues with them :)

Thank you for your excellent content and valuable insights! I love your sense of humor! Everytime you mention a dog walker app I start laughing!
Thank you! I appreciate it especially as an introvert who's still afraid of the camera and humor in particular is super scary ;)
