I bought the sonarworks system a couple of years ago, I found it very useful for tuning my speakers to the room, using the eq and shelf controls on the back of the speakers, I had to run the sonarworks profiler several times to end up with a pretty flat response from the speakers without having to have an active sonarworks profile in the daw
I use any number of commercially mixed two tracks as a ref track on every mix I do so my ears and judgements stay sober. I mix both with my Kali Audio IN-8 wave 2 + WS-12 subwoofer and Sony MDR-7506 headphones. Love both methods. I have three profiles I use: 1) Kali Audio IN-8 + WS-12 2) Kali Audio IN-8 only 3) Sony MDR-7506
I love these for my headphones!! I mainly use my beyerdynamic dt 990 and I’ve gotten better mixes since implementing sonarworks. Thanks for this video!
I have the same headphones. I coudnt afford the full Sonarworks so I bought the headphone version. But its not adding as a VST. I only have a desktop icon which opens as a standalone. So it's only working when I play YT vids. It's not being recognised by CbB at all. Pretty uselss really. I've opened a support request with Sonarwoks to ask how I add it as a vst. Im on Win10. There is supposed to a Sonarworks folder in c:\progfiles\commonfiles\vst. But tis not there.
@@agentcalm I use windows 10 as well and I use Studio One. I believe I either added the location of the folder to Studio One or I moved it to my dedicated plugin folder. Maybe if you try to locate it (searching for the folder and looking at the path to get there) and either move that file/folder to your plug-in folder or add that location to your DAW. Hopefully that’ll work for you :)
@@eshortsax Hi EShort. Yeah I've already got the folder in the search list. The VST folder never even installed. I'm hoping Sonarworks can get back to me. I've got a ticket logged. If I get a resolution I'll post the answer here.
Hehe, so that was it indeed the other day :D I'm quite happy with the Headphones edition, also grabbed a pair of calibrated Beyerdynamic 880 Pro from them.
@@CreativeSauce It's the "SONY / MDR-EX800ST". This, in combination with the Waves "Nx Ocean Way Nashville" plugin is my common mix check/mastering setup.
When moving around your room, should you always keep the mic pointing straight or angle it towards the center point of your speakers? The diagram on screen seems to show the mic angled towards center.
Thank you for your excellent review! I have a question: my room basically has a lot of forniture, which might perhaps help, but I have no space on the walls for treating it. What kind of issues would the Sonarworks software not be able to address?
Great video! I use a comparable and competitive system: IK Multimedia ARC System 3, which saves me many hours in mixing and especially mastering. Maybe a shoot out next time?
In this day and age, I wonder what percentage of people listen to music on speakers instead of headphones. I always listen to music, etc. on "Monitoring Headphones" if given a choice for both recording and enjoyment. I think Sonarworks has taken some important steps to bring the recording and listening experience into closer alignment. Thanks
thanks for going right through the sound id stuff they added. still on the fence about upgrading from reference 4 still dont really see the value in paying an extra 100 bucks for something i already own just to simulate airpods. should have been a free update imo fairly annoying for people that already bought the software
Great video, im tempted to pick up sonarworks now. Just an observation, after you applied correction, the vocals moved from centre and panned to the right This also happened when you was playing with the translation presets. Was this supposed to happen? Thanks.
What's up with the 30 degree off axis calibration file with Sonarworks Sound ID?? So now, do I need to measure with the mic with a different angle than I generally use? I've been using the Behringer ECM8000 with an average mic calibration file for years now. I generally point the mic parallel to the ground, it's tip facing the speakers. I've been thinking about upgrading to the Sonarworks SoundID mic with it's unique calibration file which will be more accurate.
Chris at Federal Audio is a pure Legend...! Cris is one of two Australian retailers / distributors that are a no brainier to recommend. Proof that 5 star humans make for 5 star retailers who make for 5 star buying experiences. Would be interested in a direct comparison between The Sonarworks and the newish Neumann system for the KH80's and sub. But above all, tell us about the kick ass tshirt you're flashing about... I kinda just want it alot dude!! Stay safe and well ✌️ 🎶 🎶 Ps- where in Oz are you? I thought you were UK based.. 😯
I have to agree man, Federal Audio are a fantastic Aussie company :) I like the idea of the head to head... will work on that. As for the important stuff, I'm am out west in Perth ..... and feeling ready to jump on a plane to just about anywhere! My recent T-shirts are all the 'Supply and Demand' brand, from JD sports. Loving their designs:)
@@CreativeSauce Perth... Beautiful place, I spent a year over there working when I first moved from Los Angeles and fell in love with the place. I AM CONFUSED AS THE SONGWRITER WHO USES LOGIC TO PRODUCE VERSIONS OF MY SONGS. I NOW USE SONA WORKS OUT ID, BUT I'M CONFUSED AS TO WHETHER I SHOULD BOUNCE MY TRACKS WITH SOUND ID ON. I AM NOT A TECHNICAL GUY, BUT AN EXPLANATION WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL, thank you
i had crackling and pop's when i turn on the virtual speakers, tried many different way's to tackle it,latency monitiors, disabling audio cards, ASIO crashings. I returned the product. Never ever gonna buy this software anymore!

What an amazing review. I was struggling understanding what this thing does. You have totally demystified for me me. Thank you.
I was the one who guess what you where going to review! Great video 👍👍I’m definitely getting this product! 👍👍
Haha, well done Allen :) Cheers!
Great review by a "Known" UA-camr. Very clear explanation of this system and its clear benefits for any home studio...a no brainer really.

Thank you! This is the best tut I've found on set up and config with SoundID Reference!!
Great piece of software/kit for any room as it can tell you the problems of any room, so you know what to address moving forward.
Thanks, best Sonarworks reference!
Excellent content as always, Mike. The song sample you used though sounded like Neil Finn singing with 'The Beautiful South'! Funky!
Haha, I always admired The Beautiful South - such great songwriters! That was me singing my song 'Wonderland' :)
Hold up, you're a fellow Aussie? Great work. Been watching you for a few years :)
I am indeed Joel :) Cheers!
In terms of other possible mix checking ways, there's also "Speakers" by AudioThing, sometimes on sale for ~60 bucks, I think.
Hey Mike! Awesomely detailed review. Love ya work :)
Cheers Cris, my pleasure :)

What I don’t get is, if you disable it in your daw thru all the mixing and mastering, what’s the point of this?

Amazing technology. No hope for me though as I'm still using my hi fi speakers rather than monitors - but only making music for fun! Love the t shirt!

Is the Adam T8Vs better than Neumann similar?

Hello ^^
Hey MC! I hope you are well!
OMG I WAS LIKE SOFTWARE? LOL
I’ll never be releasing any music so I just use my hifi for playback, sounds great.

Just use it REW....🙄
Just shrieking treble for me. Removed it.
Yes! You are old! Very VERY old!!!
maybe a boomer but cooler than 60% of the people I know 😄
I found the translation checks are pretty much useless.
Sonarworks adjusts your monitors by adjusting their eq in your room...now who adjusts the adjustment?
