    I started drawing when i was little thinking it was all about imagination and talent.
    Turns out it is about anatomy, lighting, physics and other stuff you would never, as a beginner, relate to drawing and painting.
    Still, it makes it more interesting and funny.

      This was me realizeing art becomes more about science and precision when you wanna get better at it. yet artist still get accused of their creations "not being work." Tis a shame.

      Imagination and creativity are still the base of a drawing, these are just the technical skills that go into making it happen.

    James, this is marvelous!! Thank you. I'm passing it on to our students at the Angel Academy of Art, Florence (I'm the Director of Studies). DIAPER, by the way, is an architectural term for any kind of material that spans an area (hence the American baby's bottom).

    this probably THE MOST helpful tutorial on clothes I've EVER seen. Every other tutorial is literally just like "draw clothes like this" and never shows you how or why. but this one actually show the techniques and physics behind it. thank you so much for this

    These drapery videos explain so much that I've wondered about. Understanding the types of folds and the mechanics behind each makes it so much easier to parse reference photos and pick out what features of folds to emphasize.

      yes! Even if the folds you use aren't 100% accurate to real life, if they resemble the correct idea, the viewer will understand the idea.

    This is taught so amazingly well, through simple explanation and intuition. I can almost feel the pull of the fabric on the figures that you draw, starting to understand where the pinch points are and how the fabric is pulled in different directions. Thank you!

    This is hands down the best tutorial on clothing folds I have watched. It’s expansive and he shows you examples on the human body. The length may be inconvenient to some but this tutorial is worth it

    My art teacher had me come to this video because I've been having trouble with shading and drawing clothing on figures, and dang I needed this! Now I've got some killer notes in my sketchbook, and i'm ready to tackle my portfolio piece. Awesome video!

    I'm not even learning about cloth but something else.
    But the classical music and the narration just had such a great calming effect it's helping me as learn perspective and shading.

    Thank you. this simplifies the whole concept of folds into "moves" that can be applied universally. On the last set of maquettes I was actually able to anticipate your decisions. I look forward to practicing this.

    Albeit I am 3 years late to this video, it is so helpful. The practical examples and application to the figure is extremely helpful, and seeing him demonstrate and economize to the primary action helps. Now I know what to really look for.

    It’s crazy I’ve been drawing since I was 6 or 7 years old, been able to draw watever I look at, now I’m learning to draw everything without reference and it’s making me feel like imma rookie all over again, it’s so much I gotta learn, and relearn, this video is exactly one of the things I need practice for, and drawing manga body proportions, backgrounds, hands and feet ALWAYS and action poses. You make it look so easy. I think I suck at drawing clothing.

    How do categorize and simplify the foods often found horizontally on a jacket sleeve? Small, numerous, and often bunched up. They resemble pipe folds and diaper folds to my newly learned eyes. I appreciate any help.

      same principles, but because those modern type of clothes tend to be more form fitting you will get tighter and more controlled version of each of these types of folds.
