I watched Tiger do the two tee drill many years ago at Oakmont. He had the tees the exact width of his putter and never hit them once. Then he did it one handed with each hand. It was absolutely demoralizing!
Did you recently change putters? I could have sworn on a previous video, you were using (I think) a Scotty Cameron Teryllium. Or one of those similar models that has the brown face.
I like that drill. I use two thick elastic bands round the head of the putter, you can start of wide and then get really tight. As soon as you hit it off one of the elastic bands, you feel it straight away and you know you have missed the middle. The advantage is you don't have to setup at a fixed length with the tee method. You can go all over the practice green and see what happens when you hit it toe or heel biased at different lengths with different breaks.
I like the elastic/rubber band method as well. For me it translates better visually to the actual playing condition to not have something on the green. It really forces the concentration on hitting the ball with the sweet spot of the putter.
Thanks Iona, another great little learning video. I do use three balls when practicing but never thought yo use the two tees. Seen it done but never tried it myself. I will now.
Brilliant drill, so easy makes so uch of a difference when done correctly. I actually did something similar when I played regularly in the late eighties as a 19/20 year old at Thetford in Norfolk (The professional Norman Arthur showed me this drill) just put a couple of tees down on the floor on the practice green and putt between the tees. You know when you've hit the sweet spot on the putter as you dont feel the putter hit the ball, its just a smooth motion. Thanks Iona for this wonderful video, I must dig out my putter and practice again.
I have a Bettinardi BB1 and when I hit the middle of the putter face it’s instantly recognisable as it feels absolutely pure. Since getting this putter, it’s also been a surprise to me as to how seldom it happens. Will try this and see how I get on.
Great drill. Tiger's favorite. Instead of a towel I just wear sneakers when practicing. Great content + editing and music. Thx for taking us out on course with you. Very informative.
Such a tough drill as that margin for error shrinks, but the benefit to path and release of the putter down the line are so worth it. Thanks for this one Iona.
Thank you Iona..i tried this today when i practiced although i hit the tees most times i was getting better at the end and my friends clapped me yay ..love your tips x
Someone mentioned using elastic bands - I use little adhesive rubber dots that are usually used to stop handles banging into walls! Just stick them on the face and you can practice at home on a mat! I don't like the elastic bands because I drag my putter ever so slightly on the ground at take away and the elastic bands mess with my take away!
I used this drill some time ago, couldn't get the tee pegs anywhere near as close as you do Iona. Then I found as a fairly short guy (5'9" in old money), if I got my head further over the ball (using an alignment stick as reference) it was easier to take the putter away straight and now I have a much more linear back and through, guess what, I make more putts.
I bought Dan Grieve book after watching the short game lesson with Rick Shiels and he talks about letting the club drop naturally….I have since took this concept to my putting and all of a sudden had an awareness of the weight of the putter and letting that do the work while I was really just supporting the putter during the stroke and for a 17 handicap I found I was hitting the middle so much more often and even the miss strikes had a chance and didn’t 3 put once during 9 holes and actually sunk a few 6-8 ft putts and one 15ft……didn’t stop me smashing balls into the trees right enough 😂👍
Excellent drill; just slightly puzzled that the ball placement didn't seem exact so even if you miss the tees the ball may be slightly off centre. I'm sure I'm missing something.
Good drill I use as well. Another good one, is to set a dime two feet in front of you and the try and roll the ball over the dime. Do so from 5-10 and 15 steps away. Really helps to get ball started on line.
So important to hit it out the center. I had been missing almost all of my putts to the right. My setup had gotten sloppy. I was standing slightly too far from my ball, with the toe of the putter slightly off the ground(hands too low). This was making me hit out at the ball. I had also inadvertently moved it slightly back in my stance too far. This was causing me to catch it a touch too early in the stroke. Both of these setup faults were obviously causing the “pushes”. I simply soled my putter flat to the ground, making my hands a little higher. Then, moved the ball up in my stance about 3/4 of an inch. And just like that, I’m back to starting my ball online, rolling it end over end. Your setup 100% determines how the putter head moves in space, without feeling like you have to manipulate your stroke. I’m near scratch, but you are definitely a better player than me. I’m not telling YOU these things, because YOU obviously already know. I’m just sharing these tips for your viewers. lol Love your channel, by the way.
Almost bought an Audi - just kept hearing this voice. But that aside Iona, is the Scotty any better than say the Kirkland putter? How much does a premium putter add to your game and how much easier is that drill with a Scotty? Genuine question.
I would think the 'balance' of the ball affects the tracking as much as the strike from the putter. I noticed that Iona's strike is quite consistent, yet the roll has the ball moving one way or the other. So... how important is it to constantly set the ball the same for each putt? The balls have line up indicators so are they not accurate? Is this a question Iona can answer, or should it be directed to the manufacturers?
Remember that practice putting on real greens has a miss factor. Even a ramp with perfect pace gets a 25 percent miss rate … point is sometimes good putts miss but middle of the face is the most important factor. I liked the towel trick , it can keep you aligned to the target as well.
You realize that with the putter you have those red dots are called Cherry Bombs. The life savers is from the 2021 Newports that have more of a red ring. All that said, that putter is CLASS!
Brilliant insights as always. Even more proof why yours is the best instructional channel for the average golfer. Thank you Iona.

It’s amazing how the simplest/straightforward drill is the best
Could watch you all day,and gain great knowledge.
I like that drill. I use two thick elastic bands round the head of the putter, you can start of wide and then get really tight. It’s hard to listen to Iona talk about how horrible her game is, when it’s better than mine will ever hope to be 🤣
Ever knew about the towel trick. Thanks for the great drill and tip.
Thanks Iona, another great little learning video. I do use three balls when practicing but never thought yo use the two tees. Seen it done but never tried it myself. I will now.
Iona, I love all your tips and drills to help us golfers on our journey! You are a wealth of talent and knowledge ❤
Best golf channel on UA-cam! Thank you Iona
Thanks Iona for the great putting tip! I will try it soon!!

I'm intrigued by the good good putters with the dot on top of the face as that gives you an idea about setting up to the properly.
Great drill. Tiger's favorite. Instead of a towel I just wear sneakers when practicing. Great content + editing and music. Thx for taking us out on course with you. Very informative.
Nice "pendulum" action Iona. I always used to place a pound coin on the back of my putter to help maintain a steady sweep through the ball :-)
Thanks again. Really good to see these drills
I’m doing something similar often at home on my putting matt using two door stoppers. 😊It really helps a lot in distance control.
Love this drill, always start my putting practice with this. These practice videos are great, hopefully more to come!
Such a tough drill as that margin for error shrinks, but the benefit to path and release of the putter down the line are so worth it. Thanks for this one Iona.
Thank you Iona! Great drill. I wish I could putt as well as you! Love the Masters shirt too!
The fact that you said “light saber” makes me like you even more. Cheers Iona
Great tip Iona - thanks 👍
Me gusta mucho el vídeo. Muy buen ejercicio. Gracias y saludos desde España.
Awesome content again, very helpful and well explained 😉
Yesss it's always a good day when a new Iona video comes out!
Thank you Iona..i tried this today when i practiced although i hit the tees most times i was getting better at the end and my friends clapped me yay ..love your tips x
Thanks. Very interesting and helpful. Shall give it a go.
Thank you, Iona. 👍
I feel like I'm always just slightly off center and wasn't sure what to do. Thanks for the video. I'm excited to give this a go!
Working hard on my putting at the moment, so will give this a try👍🏻

Thanks Iona a drill I will definitely be using 👏👏👏
Oh man thanks for the towel tip. I hate doing this drill because I feel like I’m destroying the green
Great drill. Thanks Iona. 👍

Yep Yep Yep!!!!! good good!!!! Cheers from Mississippi!!!!!
Well played Iona; gotta get those 3s

Thank you excellent.

Really good putting practice exercise.😊
As good as the putting is can't help but love her love of dogs 👍
To my untrained eye, you address the ball with a slightly open stance. Is that correct? I'll try that, thank you!
Almost bought an Audi - just kept hearing this voice. But that aside Iona, is the Scotty any better than say the Kirkland putter? How much does a premium putter add to your game and how much easier is that drill with a Scotty? Genuine question.
Timing is perfect. Looking for this. Where do you put the ball? Is it in line with pegs or just after?

Have you always used claw grip on putting ???
i find this works better with another gate just wide enough for the ball to get through, this gets you rolling the ball on the start line
I need this! Thanks Iona!
Thanks Iona. 👍

Iona, have you ever tried a LAB Golf Putter?
Iona, when you put the towel down your stance was quite open. Is that normal?
Brill Iona, thank you

All that said, that putter is CLASS!
Great tip thanks
I really need this after missing 4-5 from two or three feet today 😂
As soon as I miss one or two I know I will keep missing.
Great watching Iona, but the towel was over the top
You need to give my favourite golfer Rory Mcilroy some putting instructions. Love the guy but he misses far too many short range putts for my liking
I will just pretend you made this video because of my comment on fb. That considered, thank you for the tips
I will try the drill next time im on the course
I get on with blades about as well as I get on with putting drills. Hate them both in equal measure 😂.
Do the same drill with the alignment sticks.
Did they find your car and clubs yet?
she got her clubs back, dont know about the car
Go and see Andy Paisley putting coach 😂❤
Thank you. Will note today you look more natural and beautiful than ever. Happy putting :)
Didn’t miss any right. Possible gate wasn’t square?
